Great easy to follow video, some bloggers whaffle on so much as they really don't know what their doing. I have a Mercury 9.9 and after 3 so called engineers have looked at it, its still runs so uneven and can cut out at very low and tick over revs. Engine is 4 years old and only run for 30 hours, so i think i need to try a 4th engineer!!!!!
U did it well my man , i have a fairly new 15hp pro kicker mercury , is mine about the same procedure i have no stream coming out the outlet , i think it also has something blocking the flow , i fish in the SF Bay & outside the gate ,there is a lot of stuff in those waters. love to here your thoughts ,
I use a piece of heavy Mono leader about 2 feet long....100 LB test ish....something that is flexable to work past the turns and such but still stout enough it could loosen up a blockage. Feed it up the pee tube and poke around a bit to loosen anything that may be up there Try different size pieces of mono. If that dose not work, you may have to go all in and remove the water jacked on top of the head. 9 times out of 10 the mono leader trick works for me
That's interesting must be an issue with RUclips cause I watched it before and itt ran through just fine ...I will try and reupload it..... Thanks for the heads up
I have a newbie question please. Is the water that pees out of the little hole on the side just to indicate that the cooling system is working, or is that actually the entire output of the cooling circuit? Also, does it flow even if the thermostat is closed because the engine is cold? I'm halfway through doing the job, waiting on parts, and I couldn't see anywhere else the water could escape (but I am new to outboard maintenance) thanks. Simon.
the peeing is the water exiting from the system, if you hook it up and run it it will start cold then warm up as the engine does. if your outboard is not peeing there might be something clogging the pee tube, use heavy mono to try and unblock it, The thermostat directs it to the area that needs to be cooled, if the thermostat is closed it simply by passes the heads and exits out the pee tube,
If the impeller is good...only other thing it could be is blockage in the pee tube....take heavy like 80-100 mono and feed it up with the engine running to try and free the blockage
I have an issue with my 2016 mercury 9.9 4 stroke. I cleaned the carb so you can eat off it. My issue is when I start it and it starts and idles perfectly ,then when I give it gas or throttle it bogs and stalls. It idles perfectly though. Can someone help me if they have or had the same problem. Thanks
You have a fuel flow issue. Could be the fuel pump. Could be a dirty fuel filter or high speed jet in the carb. I'd clean the fuel filter then run some sea foam mix through it for 20 min or so ( trying the throttle little by little. ) If that doesn't cure it, it needs a carb rebuild.
You have the " main" stream out the back, when I flush it I do see another stream that is in front of the lower unit just above the cavitation plate, that stream goes straight down. I have never seen anything else up by the power head.
@@residentdawgfishing5424 yes that's what I was asking about. Right where your lower unit bolts up. In that seam there is 2 holes. 1 comes out the front and one comes straight down. Mine is squirting from there too. I was trying to see if that's what yours is doing but the camera was so far away I wasn't sure. I tooke a video of mine that I could post an link here if you would look at mine.
very clear video, saved me a couple hundred. I had no issues doing it myself after watching this. TY TY
Glad it helped
It does not matter..but neutral makes the shift linkage easier to get to.

thanks for the vid, only thing i would add is to put some grease on the impellor and gear shaft ,helps to stop any wear on the first start up
absolutely a great idea, thanks!
thanks. looks you had fun making the video.
Thanks for the video. Just what I needed to see.
am i the onl;y one seeing the video freeze just as he goes to take off the old impeller?
@AshleyB-e5l no...it was an error in my edditing....my apologies
@@residentdawgfishing5424 ok just wondering. i was waiting to see the old impeller and i got robbed lol

video freezes at 4:26, which of course is the bit I wanted to see, I'm doing this job and the top and bottom housing parts are stuck together

About how long did it take to complete this job? Great video by the way! 👌
@@mattwaters6987 bout an hour and half with filming....if I was not filming an hour.
@residentdawgfishing5424 thanks for such a quick response. 🚤🎣😊

@@residentdawgfishing5424 I understand. Thank you very much. Good fishing. Simon.

Do you have to be in gear or neutral to drop the lower or does it matter?
I don't think it matters, the collar for he shift linkage moved up and down, so in neutral, it is easily accusable.
Awesome video. Do you have a part number for that kit. I have a 2016 mercury 9.9 4stroke.
Thanks...the pert number I used for 2019 9.9 is 47-803748K01
@@residentdawgfishing5424 thank you so much for the quick reply. 👍
Always use hand tools, that drill was unnecessary to tighten those impeller housing bolts. That housing is plastic and could crack.
Thanks for the tips!
Got the 05 model. Almost exactly the same. It won’t pee. Impeller is good. Any idea?

@@residentdawgfishing5424 if I feed it up the pee tube, where it comes out, it’s only like 6 inches from the fuel pump.
Thanks for the video. Is it same procedure for a 10hk as for a 9.9hk?
Should be very similar...if not identical

Does yours pee out of the front of the outdrive too where the lower unit meets the power head? I couldn't tell in your video

Hey I have a push mower that probably needs a carborator clean and a time up if you need something for a new video!
Yeah bro....drop it by anytime
Well the video stops soooo!
Yeah I am sorry about that. Not sure if it was in editing or the upload been in issue with the upload...that is fault.
