I know you probably don't care, but breaking the fourth wall Is a reference to theatrical acts. On stage there are 3 walls for the scenography, the fourth one is an illusionary wall because it's where the people watching the act are. The characters would see a wall there but the actors do not because there isnt a literal wall. When characters address the public or look at the public after saying something they metaphorically "break" the fourth wall because they aknowledge the presence of the public.
