I've been afraid of centipedes and milipedes since star wars episode 2, where the assassin that tries to get Padme leaves a fictional alien version of them in her bed.
very creepy .. Here in the Dominican Republic there’s the scalapedria gigantia species and I was very excited to see one till it was in front of me lmao. My brother in law brought me one he caught in a bottle about 8 inches long and boy it was like holding something from another planet . I just went and released it .. too creepy for my liking
Imagine crawling in them Vietnam rat tunnels worried about finding the enemy and this shit starts moving around up ur legs fuck no idk how they did dat shi
Centipedes are my number 1 WORST fear ever but here I am watching anyways getting shivers up my spine because I felt like it’d be good exposure therapy and I just like when Tyler gets a new pet
I was once trapped in the bathroom for an hour because a house centipede was on the ceiling between me and the door and I was afraid to move, so that is a nope pet for me, but enjoy (?)
I’ve worked with plenty of centipedes including, scolopendra dehaani and subspinipes. You definitely need to do some research, they bite anything and everything. They are master escape artists, and run faster than any old world tarantula. These are not to be taken lightly, Although they make excellent pets. Don’t be discouraged, with enough research, and being overly cautious, you’ll be fine. I much rather prefer a centipede, over any tarantula, or reptile. They’re really interesting, and awesome pets. Edit: 11:30 if your fast enough just use your fingers, they’re usually in a sleep like state so they won’t usually bolt and climb up.
Yo! I keep a Vietnamese centipede myself, and I’d like to note a few things! I place cardboard tubes (with one side stapled shut) under any areas in the room where they would likely take cover. My Vietnamese centipede LOVES cardboard tubes. A combination of dwarf white isopods and springtails are the best cleanup crew for a centipede (in my opinion) They’re nocturnal, so night feedings are the best! They can’t see red or blue light, so that’s what I use for observation. Whenever observing, I put on a mask. Centipedes are super sensitive to even the slightest stimulations, including the scent and weight of your breath, and can be spooked. (If they ever crawl up your tongs, just blow on them!)
Did you know Emma lock from emzotic used to own the same spicies of centipede . You can see them in her older video's . Like from 3 - 4 years ago . I have not watched a lot of them but you can check. I believe this was back in when she lived in the U.K. ( when she was still with her ex )
I love how calm your centipede is. All I got where very nervous at the beginning. I keep Centipedes for 2 years now an I love these creatures. But I have a few points to add. They are aktiv at night and hide for very long times. It can happen that the dig a hohle and stay underground for weeks. it can be a boring pet for some people and it is important not to dig them out. If they moulting that could hurt them very bad and it is stress for the animal because they need to dig new tunnels every time. And because they spent so much time in the ground you should never use a heatmat, that would cook them.
I totally get it. Even before I had tarantulas I was always scared of tiny spiders more than big ones. I think it was the irrational fear of them climbing in my ears while I sleep. But either way you make a valid point with just “I can see that huge thing coming” since it is less likely to sneak up on ya. Welcome home Miss Kitty
just wondering does miss kitty need enrichment like rocks or leaves to climb on to make her enclosure more interesting? I don't no anything about her care but as a hamster/mouse owner that was my first thought.
This is a great question. So with inverts they don't need enrichment loke lets say a dog or a cat or a hamster. Just because they don't play with things . Leaf litter and logs and rocks should be added to there set ups to give them places to hide . I hooe this helps. If you have anymore questions please just ask .I keep 1000s of inverts
I would. But this could quite be a temporary setup. Centipedes mainly need tons of soil, enrichment isn't required but could make it so the animal displays more natural behaviors. It also just looks better the more enrichment, I enjoy watch my inverts explore items so I add quite a bit. Others don't.
@@cicadacrimes6366 i got to agree with you on that . If you have leaf litter places to hide for it it will then show more natural behaviour what is good
Miss Kitty is so calm compared to my centipede. She's so cute just walkin around. Mine manically flys around the tank, trying to escape at every chance it gets.
I used to keep tarantulas and scorpions one thing I could never keep is a centipede they freak me out with how fast they can move and how aggressive they are
I live in Israel, and in the summer I leave my back door open to get a nice breeze. One night something caught my eye, and I thought maybe it was a mouse or big spider. NOPE. It was a 7 inch long centipede! I trapped it, and it barely fit into a deli cup. I slid some cardboard underneath and gently yeeted it out into the yard. Thankfully it took the hint and didn't come back.
2:31 TRUEEEEE. The spider that I’m most terrified of is probably the tiny jumping spiders..I cant keep an eye on their movement it’s scary lol. but tarantulas are big boys and I have no problem handling an adult tarantula! I’m just a massive fan of centipedes in general though and it’s really cool to see one online since I’ll likely never be able to own one!
I'm terrified of house centipedes. I was bit once, and it was awful. I have the same kind of mindset, the bigger it is, the less scary, but I have a rule with my husband, get whatever I want as long as it's safe in case it got out. We have a toddler and fur babies.
You have taken a difficult subject and presented it perfectly. "Don't try this at home." Doesn't quite fint. You have taken the perfect amount of precautions and did everything correctly. I have a Thai Electric Blue sling (Chilobrachys -sp.) I am already planning (probably in a year) an enclosure like this,

Very cool. We had something that looked just like this crawling around our campsite a few years back. We were in Inks Lake campground in TX. Gave us all chills to say the least.
Growing up in the Caribbean it was fairly normal to run into a giant centipede. We would chase it down and kill if we got the chance. They’re very fast.
They are one of the make damaguses inverts to keeo they are very aggressive too. But they look amazing. I have 10 my self and they are one if the hight end inverts I keep
I love centipedes! Vietnamese Giant Centipedes are my favorite. I have a few small species of Texas native centipedes in my house and I just love them but my family....not so much. I’ve been looking at Vietnamese Giant Centipedes but I haven’t seen an individual that is the one.
I'm exactly the same way-- small insects freak me out way more than large ones. I think it may have something to do with...like...knowing what their limbs and mouths are doing??? I guess?
Tyler I have the exact same fear when it comes to spiders and some other bugs! Like if they’re small and fast I’m scared that they’ll disappear and then suddenly reappear in my face or something and that freaks me out. While most big tarantulas are also slow so there’s hardly any way that I could manage to lose them. I would definitely be terrified if I saw a giant tarantula in my house that I didn’t own, but that’s just because tarantulas don’t live in Sweden so they’re definitely not supposed to be anywhere here.
They sre very cool abd really interesting to keep and to watch feeding. But they are a very fast and dangerous invert to keep and should only be kept by a responsible person who knows what they are doing. I have 7 my self and they are a lot of fun
I say no . If you are looking for a snake to start off with go with osmthing like a corn snake. They are easy to care for and make grest starter snakes. They are good eaters and dotn get to big.. they are easy to take out too.. You can also go for a ball . But they can go off there food . I hope this helps

I’m terrified of spiders bc I didn’t invite them in yk but I love tarantulas and want one as a pet lol
