    I think he was truly free once but seeing Gojo fully awakened shattered that. It's another thing I like about their fight, Toji caused Gojo to gain enlightenment while Gojo caused all of Toji's trauma and pride back to the surface, he made him lose his freedom and enlightenment.

    • @Dstryrr
      @Dstryrr 10 месяцев назад +72

      Toji was not "free" the same way Gojo was. Toji was running from his problems and using gambling, assassination, and just living for himself as a way to cope with losing his wife. Sure Toji was living just for himself like Sukuna was, but it was for an entirely different reason. I think it was just a form of mental armor for Toji because losing his wife causes him to throw his humanity away again, and was too unsure of his ability to raise Megumin with how unstable he was given his upbringing.

  • @jamsheeddevotee7588

    Toji is a tragic character. Zen'in really fucked him up as a person. He had too much hate for the Zenin to much of his character was influenced by them. He tried to cover it up as much as possible even throwing away his son and everything but in the end he couldnt. He couldnt just forget and forgive. His pride crawled back in and his sons presence couldnt be forgotten. It sucks but goes to show other peoples influence is what makes us as people.

    The Gojo story is so good in this, and it all comes around because of Toji. The thing I love about Gege's writing is his understanding of the teenage element. As adults we still have a fascination with young adult characters in stories, and teenage stories in particular. At this point in life there's this electricity to it, your choices can make or break your life, we've seen people who were clever and set plans in motion to get themselves where they are today, and others, it happens by chance or circumstance. Gojo and Geto were these two young pinnacles of strength, and then came Toji. I keep thinking if they fought him together, maybe that might of been the changing factor in how Gojo and Geto fell off, but they both lost to Toji. When Geto left, he knew that he was only as strong as Gojo if he could match his power. Rika was what Geto saw as his power up to match Gojo, because if Toji beat Geto so easily, and Gojo beat Toji so easily, Geto understood he could never achieve his plans as long as Gojo was the power ceiling he couldn't reach. Toji scared both of them and traumatized them in different ways. Damn good story

    • @vincentshadetree
      @vincentshadetree 10 месяцев назад +21

      It's in knowing Gojo's past as a teenager it makes his story as an adult so tragic. Geto was the person he looked at as understanding being as powerful as feels like, but not only that, being ok with his personality and choices. After losing that, it shut him off from having a connection like that that could make him weak enough ever again to let his guard down, him, Riko, and Geto were these three up and coming or unique children of the Jujutsu Society and his concern for having friends made him soft and almost cost his life. It's why when he says Geto was his only friend, it runs deep, because that's him saying he'll never let his guard down again by having someone he will trust is safe because they are special, he lost Riko and eventually Geto, as long as Gojo doesn't keep his heart too close he won't let his guard down.

      I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think Toji was living in Gojo’s head as some thing that will affect him for the rest of his life. SPOILERS BELOW:
      Gojo only mentioned Toji twice:
      1.) When he battles Meguna Gojo basically said “Since you look like him, I have no reason to hold back.”
      2.) A little later in the fight when Gojo takes more damage from Meguna and a flashback of Toji appears. It was Gojo basically thinking: “I never felt a feeling like this in a long time, the feeling that I may lose in a fight.”

He wanted to die in this job after loosing any respect for others or himself. Distancing himself so Megumi could have a better life is one thing but wasting every once of money because you have nothing better to do is another. Even his co-worker who hired him for the last job didn't like to spend time with Toji.

    Usually, an absent/bad father is pretty disliked. But in this case, it's tragically beautiful. I don't think Toji would have made a bad father IF he chose to be one, and defend his place with Megumi to try and rewrite the Zeni's wrongs. But he told himself he could never do it from the get-go. In any case, he needed to do what he did, he was good at one thing, killing sorcerers. That's not a very welcoming place for a child, even if the child is gifted. Toji did what he felt was right by Megumi, by just trying to stay out of his life, and trying to give him a better chance at life. It's brokenly beautiful for some reason. Even the ghost of an absent father can do so much damage..

    The Zenin clan's contradiction is clear-they value cursed techniques as supreme power, yet two strong members lack this energy. This twist of fate teaches that real strength isn't just about one thing. Despite this lesson, it's interesting to observe how the clan's members often remain steadfast in their beliefs, continuing their exclusive outlook. The narrative hints at growth and change, but some characters grapple with breaking free from their inherited mindset. This portrayal paints a realistic picture, illustrating how individuals can sometimes resist lessons that challenge their established views. Fate's guidance remains, encouraging the Zenins to consider a broader perspective and recognize the intricate nature of power.

    I think that Toji did manage to escape from the grips of the zen'in, It isn’t evident but with little hints like his favourite food being meat and offal (internal organs) and him hating alcohol it seems like he doesn't like to indulge himself. It wouldn’t even be far-fetched to say gambling was just a hobby to pass the time instead of addiction, especially considering he only works when he has to and doesn’t try save money. I honestly think he reached enlightenment and was only dragged back by the shadows of his past being embodied in Gojo.

    i love how tojis story and personality is the absolute best of the type of "think yourself and you get it" story. We see so much hints and interactions. Obvioulsy he and Shiu have had a type of friendship beside the basic work they shared probably the most a of a friendship toji had. Just to judge by the way they talked about going to eat and this time toji pays cause Shiu knows toji is gonna eat a lot and tends to not have money. Also shiu babysitted megumi after Mama-Guro died while toji was unable to take care of that child. So Shiu was there for him. Thats why he asked for megumi

    I find it interesting that toji is given so much significance within the story as the root cause, even though he actively goes agains the very idea of jujutsu kaisen's world and everyone in it, except maybe Sukuna, who he actually has a lot in common with. Both of them let go of themselves amd those around them on their path to the top. I think it's ultimately possible that gege is trying to say that the strongest inhabitants of a cruel world are those who cannot be hurt by that cruelty, and in this itadori almost falls into this. The key part here is that toji and sukuna both possess a flawed escape from this cruelty, with sukuna seeing himself as far above everyone else, and therefore immune to the cruelty of those around them. Sooner or later itadori will have to either follow one of these paths, or create his own, and the ending of jujutsu kaisen hinges on that individual choice.

    Toji as a character reminds me a bit of batman. Both are haunted and fueled by a traumatic past, and both use the many tools at their disposal to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, despite being born "inferior".

    14:10 Another way of looking at it is that Toji saved Megumi because Jogo would've severely burned or even killed him if he was with that group.

      And if Toji took a little longer to kill Dagon, or Jogo arrived earlier, Toji would jump at him and turn his head into a sponge. Preventing the Shibuya Malevolent Shrine incident and many other events.

    Just realized that Gojos and Tojis fight is supposed to be a representation of the fight between Wukong (the monkey king) and Buddha (Gojo). At the start of the fight Wukong thinks he wins but is actually fooled by Buddha and gets defeated with no problem. It’s like the fight between Gojo and Toji. Toji fights Gojo “wins” but when Gojo becomes reawakened Toji stood no chance and dies. Gojo even states one of Buddhas quotes.

    I prefer the last words of Toji in the anime compared to the manga "thats great" which I believe from how he said it could be read as I'm glad just feels so much better since he never shows emotion only in his last moments seeing his kid.

    He was a good father. He wanted the best for his kid whether he wanted to admit it or not. He saved Megumi from his own overwhelming emotion. He took a gamble with Gojo but he was a gambler. It paid off and he was able to see the fruits of his labor in the end.

    It’s even more ironic that the guy who voiced dio is his voice actor because if you think about it the rest of the story in jojo for the first universe was about dio’s legacy even after his death and same can be said for Toji

    I really like the amount of times Toji talks to himself about something being wrong when Gojo popped off. To me that showed Toji could well have won but he sort of accepted this as his fate. Almost as if he felt Gojo is meant to beat him ever since he was seen by Gojo as a child. The strongest guy, Toji, meets another strongest and it seemed like it had to be one or the other. It really felt like he chose to stand and nearly sacrifice himself as some sort of self worth test against the strongest sorcerer beint just a monkey

    He so I have been going back and looking at to his story on a dad lvl bc as a dad I see tough and twisted love let me explain ….toji is an outcast in a big clan but he is the strongest disappointment of the clan that strives to get strong and like sakuna now with maki he knows that their existence is an anomaly and but with toji now as a dad to protect his son he did the impossible and that’s kill gojo or incapacity and with that his will for his son to be the head of the clan was in effect but we never got to see the reunion of toji bringing him to his clan as a leader of a clan by agreement shown in later chapters he was a target to be killed so a new head can be chosen and toji knew that was going to happen to a lil boy so he as his dad was going to be in the shadows guiding him to become a great leader and to change what the zenjin clan is that’s why megamis name is blessing and I feel he wanted to be next to his son this whole time but gojo came back and he wasn’t expecting him to come back as strong as he did be peep the fight he called out blue and seen him use red and already adjusted but that feeling was the. Feeling of lose he knew he had two options in the contract with zenjin gojo must be dead or knocked out for a period of time and he chose to spare him same as he spared geto and with that he never finished his job as toji zenji would have killed gojo with the heavenly spear to the head and not switched out with a knife if he didn’t make the mistake of sparing the one bound by fate as mentions with the 6 eyes and tengan but sparing geto was something he don’t want to handle because his over all goal was to knock out or badly injure them instead of killing them but by fate he was cursed for not finishing the job and now megami is a lost child with no dad and as he is dying he knows he son will be sold to the clan bc of the 10 mill but he knows his othe will of him being head leader and his growing up with him is not going to happen but gojo the new strongest as toji claimed the title for 10 mins now gojo is given the responsibility of megami and his life but gojo has the 6 eyes on awaken rn so Ik he knows tojis heart and will by reading his energy ….. but yea toji loved his son and wanted a better life for the clan and him but he took the easy way of knocking them out and sakuna now is not making that mistake as he did with gojo and geto or Kenny was handled for him and now it’s time to get to work
