The final meeting of Gojo and Geto in the street is beautiful. "Are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest? Or are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo?" No matter how strong Gojo was, he was still just a cog in JJK society. Gojo had no personal sense of conviction, no mission in life, no purpose. Gojo learned to carry on Geto's ideals, "The strong must protect the weak." To reform JJK society, but it cost Gojo his only best friend.
@@Mavuika_Gyaru He's basically questioning gojo if he's protecting the weak because he's the strongest basically questioning him as to why his morals have changed since earlier in the story
@@Mavuika_Gyaru Geto asks that to Gojo to provoke an internal critique. To get Gojo to question why he does what he does. When Gojo asked Geto if he should "kill all of them?" and Geto says "It would be meaningless." (talking about the star society people). Gojo really wanted to kill them all. And when Geto says Gojo that if he killed Geto, that would have meaning, but the thing is that Gojo doesn't! Geto knew he wouldn't, because Gojo knows one thing only; that he is the strongest. His enlightenment is not one of purpose, but that of his own EGO.
@@peteryang2067 he didn't say ANY of that. It was a dum question. Also, how is that ego? Enlightenment is selfish by our perspective. The 1st Buddah literally abandoned his family to achieve Enlightenment. Gojo found Enlightenment through his power. Muramasa found Enlightenment through crafting swords. Miyamoto Musashi through sword play.
It just occurred to me how much Geto smiled and laughed in the Zero movie versus the younger Geto who was more serious. It almost was like he was liberated by finally not having to follow values he couldn't accept. It's interesting how the author shows these characters are all massively affected by a person close to them, Gojo and Geto, Yuta and Rika, Maki and Mai, etc. One person sometimes is all another person needs to provide balance to their life and when that's taken away, the results can be shattering or uplifting, depending.
half of the time it was kind of hysteric madman laughing though. look at his last laugh when Gojo says his last words to him before killing - that's his genuine smile and laugh. it looks nothing like what we saw when he was on his mission
I feel like that Jujutsu Society failed Geto. We've all been teens and there's a certain point, it varies between people, but there's a point where you decide to choose either to be a part of society or against it. Geto was always a morals valued individual, he cared about ideals. The poor way in which Jujutsu High was sending these literal children out to handle life, death, and all the horrors you can and can't imagine from humanity, you're setting up a majority of your students to either drink your twisted Kool aid, or give some permanent PTSD to the rest. Geto got lost in all that came with seeing his ideal shattered in front of him, his belief system rocked. Geto was making bad guy moves, but was one of the good guys just with a different viewpoint. His story is a sad one
Just imagine eating ppl's shit as curses on a daily basis just so that they can torture and kill other humans what is the point of protecting them if they will just eat themselves from within
I couldn't agree more. They were just bunch of teenagers not even a total adults yet. They could have at least have an adult with them with mission. Remember Yuji and Nanami. Yuji was to kind and innocent to the point he was naive at the same time. Nanami handle it well to ensure Yuji's well being when he thought he killed humans. Nanami understand the shit of Jujutsu world. He was emphatetic at the same time and professional at the same time.
There was an episode in season 1 where Nanami told Itadori that he's still a child and that it's ok if he can't accept the way the jujustu world is. I think it's when the both found out the cursed spirits they were fighting were humans whose soul was twisted by Mahito. If only someone like Nanami was there at that time.
@@narusas1222 You could argue Nanami became that someone for Yuji was because he witnessed no one being there for Geto so that another tragedy like that won't happen to the people he cares about.
Couldn't agree more. He will be perfect for Yuji just like how Nanami handle Yuji's well being when he thought he killed humans. Nanami and Geto will be the perfect starters for 1st years.
I really like the way Gege portrayed two different ways in which trauma can affect people. Some experience a big change and grow from it, managing to process the trauma emotionally; Post Traumatic Growth. Gojo did just that. After the incident he focused on getting stronger and had a change in worldview. Geto in other hand, developed PTSD. Unable to cope with the trauma, he kept on re-experiencing the event in his head over and over. The despair, isolation, loss of appetite, lack of hygiene, drastic negative change in worldview. All signs of extreme psychological distress. I think a major decisive detail that led to both of these reactions is not only their own personalities, but the nature of how they wound up after Toji's defeat. Gojo lost but was more or less back from the dead, awakening his whole power and becoming the strongest sorcerer alive. Geto in other hand witnessed Riko getting killed after promising her a brighter future, and couldn't defead Toji either. Gojo grew in power exponentially while Geto fell between the cracks and had no support system. It was a disaster waiting to happen. Had someone more adequate reached out to Geto and helped him heal properly. The dark path he ended up walking might not have been so decisive.
I agree that's how it affected Geto, but I personally don't read Gojo's change as a positive one. I don't think he really processed the trauma. Yes, he got stronger in terms of actual ability, but emotionally, the way he threw himself completely into perfecting his jujutsu was a self-isolating response. After the incident with Toji, Gojo & Geto could never say "We are the strongest" with the same unshakable confidence ever again. Both had different reasons for that, though. Gojo realized that he was only truly "the strongest" when he was alone. Geto could no longer claim the title at all. Geto is left behind with all that devotion and sense of responsibility that has nowhere to go -- he bottles it all up until it turns into resentment. But Gojo detaches himself from his humanity, because it's what failed him during that mission. And this is what leads to him making the second great mistake in his life -- not being there for his friend. It's only after he loses him that he realizes that "there's no point in being the strongest on your own", and that's what shapes the philosophy he holds in the present day.
@@rinseyong5202 the concept of Posttraumatic Growth does not necessarily mean the trauma has been processed and healed from, actually. It rather means that a person gains a new insight, perspective or positive change following the traumatic event. The name can be deceiving. The positive change he went through wasn't just the mastery of his abilities, but his change of worldview and morals. He became a teacher and a quasi-father figure of many children. He protected the weak and aspired to change the system through educating the younger generation. That doesn't mean his emotional trauma has been healed, of course. But he found positive ways to deal with the consequences. That's what that specifically means.
@@deadsoon I get that, I just don't think the trauma inflicted by Toji is what caused that growth. Losing Geto, who he relied on as a moral compass, is what forced him to do that introspection. In the year between the SPV incident and Geto defecting, Gojo wasn't actually shown to have changed much aside from getting stronger in ability. Him saving Megumi from getting sold to the Zenin clan was directly preceded by his last conversation w/ Geto, and his subsequent realization that power had no intrinsic meaning if he couldn't protect the people close to him -- which led to the conclusion that he needed to raise the next generation to be strong enough to protect themselves, as well as providing them with moral guidance so they wouldn't go down the same path as Geto. While this was a chain of events that was started by Toji, that trauma isn't where Gojo learned that lesson from.
@@deadsoon losing to toji made gojo stronger in terms of powers - true, but the change in perspective happened after he lost geto because those powers didn't help him to save his closest person. he had to change his mentality and adopt new values (a lot of them were geto's old values mixed with his determination to support a new generation in a way that would prevent what happened to geto from happening to anyone else). so maybe you're right about posttraumatic growth of new perspective, insight, etc. but the trauma that caused this was losing geto, not losing to toji
To simply sum it up gojo and geto's ideology switched after the hidden inventory ark, when gojo goes berserk geto was able to hold him and when geto goes berserk no one was there to hold him, therefore the thousand demon parade
I also noticed that in the basketball scene when geto and gojo debate their ideals/beliefs, geto fails to get the ball into the net which could symbolize he doesn’t really believe what he’s saying. Meanwhile gojo on the other hand wholeheartedly believes in what he’s saying. Geto is only lying to himself, it’s what he wants to believe is morally right of a jujutsu sorcerer but in reality, deep within his heart he can’t seem to really adhere to his “ideals”.
@@ana...p id say that it’s more foreshadowing that he wouldn’t be able to uphold his ideals the same way gojo is able to. it would tie in how both of them being the strongest, the stronger one was gojo
When geto asks gojo the question, I don’t think that he’s attacking gojos identity but rather saying that the only reason gojo can keep the values that he has is because he has the power to do so. The hidden inventory arc showed geto that despite thinking they were the strongest, they were powerless to uphold their values. All of the stuff geto was saying to gojo in the past seems meaningless because geto didn’t believe that jujutsu sorcerers had the power to continue protecting the ordinary people, but he’s challenging gojos beliefs because now gojo seemingly does have the power to uphold getos old values
true. after they both went through trauma from toji, new powers gojo reached helped him to move forward, and restore resolution knowing that now he's strong enough to prevent the same from happening again. geto didn't get anything that could have helped him to restore his resolution - he kept losing and losing, including losing gojo as his partner, something that was a big constant in his life as a sorcerer.
@@kakyoin5862 Toji couldn't keep up, that's why he lost. he was also an adult at his peak potential and Gojo was a teen at about 20-40% of his potential at that time. and the talk was more about morals and values which Toji didn't really have anyway
@@valeriyav2149 that’s kind of my point. At the time, nobody other than Toji could come close to challenging Gojo or Geto. So the idea that they could protect the weak no matter what happened holds up.
Yea, at first I didn’t understand the question but after reading everyone’s opinions I have come to the conclusion that Geto felt powerless because of how many sorcerer’s died. While Gojo on the other hand was being sent out on missions, Geto was dealing with and seeing many of his friends die. Especially when Toji told Geto that he killed Gojo.
Its crazy because Geto saved two kids being unjustly held captive and seen as evil, brought him under his wing and at some point managed to create an organization of other curse users. And they all liked him. Now imagine if HE was the one running Jujutsu high and properly taking consideration for young jujutsu sorcerers lives. And ofcourse if Gojo was along side him and they worked with each other.
IF Geto was just hoenstly left and didn't start his cult (after he save Girls but didn't start cult) he could in theory just have some type of family and friends
i've always felt if Geto didn't kill the villagers but just took the girls and left Jujutsu High, he could have started something like a shelter for sorcerers outside of the flawed system. simply helping them control their powers but they wouldn't have risked their lives to protect non-sorcerers. I'm sure Gojo would have supported him and kept old geezers off Geto's way while trying to change the system from the inside like he's been doing in canon. that could have been a good ending
@@valeriyav2149 yeah but Geto is ambicious, his heavy responsibility doesn't allow him to simply hide and live a peaceful life, which makes him being the enemy and gets targeted by the Jujutsu Society
@@kujojotarostandoceanman2641 i mean if Gojo had his side (which he would have if Geto didn't go for the genocide plan), I don't see how Jujutsu Society could have done anything to him. the only one who could kill Geto at that time was Gojo which is why it took 10 years because Gojo was avoiding it. i get that Geto was too idealistic for it to be possible but maybe if he talked to Gojo when he was struggling, Gojo would have tried to find another way to fix the system (he'd have probably offered to kill the "rulers" of Jujutsu Society and build something new together). idk if it would have worked though. Geto was looking for a final solution to the problem with curse energy but he was also mentally unstable to go for the most extreme option. if he got some mental support in time, there was a chance he'd have leaned into another option (Yuki's option or Gojo's changing system from the inside option). it's always fun to theorize about "what ifs". honestly, it was more possible for Gojo to choose a dark path with Geto than vice versa. Geto only had to say "Yes, let's kill these sick cultists" :D but the story would have been much shorter.
@@friendlyanomaly6109 Yeah. I anytime in literally any aspect i remembered about naruto when i read jjk. After he said naruto was one of teh main reasons and inspirations for jjk i wasnt surprised at all.

@@friendlyanomaly6109 Even if you're not aware of the themes you're dealing with initially, as long as you manage to convey them in your story, you'll manage to write a good philosophical side to the story. In stories, specially, those sides and views tend to be better if they emerge on their own. Forcing them into a story can often lead to disaster.
2:44 The funny thing is, if Geto had of convinced gojo kill all of the cultists at that point, then they probably both would have went on to rule the world if gojo begin to follow geto's. new ideas. There would also be no one that could kill him as gojo would be on his side.
ehh that last part isn't true and is obviously your head cannon. The story would be written differently and someone strong the MC would step up. You can't simply rewrite this piece of the story and then assume everything else follows suit.
I think haibara could have saved geto from being evil if he didn’t die. He is literally the only one giving geto emotional support after the failed escort
I know you'll probably never see this but I just wanted to add a new perspective to how Gojo and Geto coped differently with the trauma of Amanai's death and the whole arc really. That is to say, how similar their coping really was despite the seemingly different outcomes. What I mean by this is that I feel like a lot of people forget that Gojo quite literally was one inch from death from his fight with Toji and i believe personally that his conviction to become stronger with his six-eyes and limitless came from a place of fear that this would happen again-- he was afraid of ever getting hurt again so he quite literally set up a barrier to himself at all times and began isolating himself as well. Geto mentions how Gojo kept going on missions by himself now that he was the strongest, so it wasn't that Geto was the only one being isolated. The two of them had always leaned on each other for support and without that Gojo clearly started becoming neurotic about getting stronger, obsessed even. He was never there for Geto because he was too busy struggling by himself as well (and obviously same goes for the other way around). They were each too busy looking in on themselves to look at each other during their darkest times. Gojo *tried* to extend an olive branch by asking if Geto was getting enough to eat but beyond that we don't see him for the rest of the chapter until he finds out what Geto did and regrets how he could have been so blind despite having the six eyes. Also imo Geto never hated the "weak", even with his twisted mentality of destroying humanity he never changed his ideal, he just changed his targets to protect sorcerers because he realized they themselves were an "endangered species" so to speak and were weak to the absolute mass that was the non-sorcerers. Anyways those are just a couple of my thoughts that differed from yours and I wanted to add to the discussion.
I feel like the fact Gojo managed to see the future and move forward while Geto couldn't, also depended heavily on the power up he had. Due to the awakening Gojo received, it gave him power and hope which gives him the resolve and control he needed to move forward. As now he has that feeling that next time he will prevent this because he is stronger now. But in Geto's case he didn't get such a thing, after suffering such a big loss, he only kept on losing, his resolve, and his partnership with Gojo, adding to that is the drawbacks of his curse technique which without Gojo to anchor him and Geto having to do missions himself slowly turned him insane. I really like Geto's character, even though we know everything he did is wrong we can't help but kinda understand him in his situation. He chose the wrong path but not without reason. I always thought of Geto's story as a benevolent god that chooses to consume the evils of his world to protect the people, but eventually after consuming so much evil and witnessing the dark side of humanity. It broke him and made him question his own purpose. Eventually, all of the evils that he consumed, consumed him instead turning him into a dark god.
Geto can never win; that's kind of his thing, his goals are too lofty for who he is, and he knows he could never reach his ideal world but he'll keep at it. Illustrated in the basketball scene in the anime pretty well
I feel like Geto was also just the wrong kind of crazy. Still crazy, but not in the way other characters are - specifically Gojo. The type of crazy Gojo unlocked whilst fighting Toji - where the individual becomes "God" in a way - probably could've saved Geto. Maybe that's why Gojo is constantly trying to recreate the same crazy into Yuji, Megumi and the rest. So they aren't twisted by the weird sense of justice, duty and morals Geto was - they can pursue their own meaning instead.
i wouldn't call gojo questioning geto's genocide plan hypocritical - he did it because he regarded geto so highly when it comes to morals, much higher than himself or anyone he knew. geto was a moral compass in his eyes, someone with the strongest ideals he knew. he could imagine anyone doing it, even himself probably, but not geto. i think after everything happened, gojo understood that it was exactly because geto had such high ideals, it broke him so much when they got shattered. that's why 10 years later, during their last convo, gojo said "a man of your principles wouldn't have killed sorcerers if he could help it". that's probably why he avoided killing him for 10 years - he understood what happened to geto and why, and maybe blamed himself for not understanding sooner. but at that time, when he'd just heard what geto did, gojo was so shocked that he couldn't believe it
Honestly seeing geto in the anime and knowing his impending downfall it really breaks my heart fam. Similar to my fav villian kirei who fought the voice inside him, his heinous evil nature, but with a nudge in that direction he accepts what he is and embraces his heinous nature.
@@stevennguyen1586 never said they're the same, just that they're both people who tried to do the right thing but inevitably fell into darkness. Where as Geto denied his darkness and clung to the way of a sorcerer, Kirei fought to reject the way he naturally was searching for healthy alternatives to no avail.
@@stevennguyen1586 what do you think I'm referring to when I say the way he naturally was, I'm referring to him being a natural born psychopath. I'm well aware he had desires to kill his wife and dad, they make it pretty clear with the lines if he was sad because he couldn't kill them himself. Him even looking for a wife to begin with is the most unnecessary step he could take if all he was trying to do was validate existence. Him sending Karen away, him not giving into those desires to kill his dad and wife. Even him arguing with Gil shows the difference between him and someone who simply just went along with how they felt. Was he born evil, yes but he actively rejected it or looked for any sense of normality he could find until gil convinces him to embrace it. You say Geto would have turned if he didn't meet toji which is likely, but toji was really just a catalyst and Geto still made his own mind up about the unpleasantness of the world in JJK and how he'd deal with it.
Geto is closer to Gilgamesh as both value humanity "passion and progress" and hate regression. Gilgamesh love seing humans potential how it can let them progress and develop skills. Because of that he has no problem of killing billions of those he finds unworthy of living, as they don't progress. Gilgamesh is more extreme version of Geto.
geto is my favourite character, i think he's very well written and shows how society can affect a person. He, just like many other jujutsu sorcerers, is just a kid, thrown in basically every day life-or-death situations, with little guidance. Jujutsu sorcerers remain unseen by the rest of society at best, killed and alienated at worst. Society, both regular and jujutsu, failed him.
Another character I know who upheld the “strong must protect the weak” mentality was Kyojuro Rengoku from Demon Slayer. It’s pretty interesting when you compare Rengoku and Geto in terms of their similar yet contrasting beliefs regarding the strong and weak. Their both trained fighters who put their lives on the line and endure a lot of horror to protect regular humans, yet where they differ is how one was able to hold onto his morals till his noble death, while the other descended into madness. Makes me wonder what a conversation between these two would be like.
It's understandable that Geto would hate non sorcerers. He watched a group of people celebrate the death of a child. Even Gojo was ready to kill them but Geto stopped him. And then he saw 2 children get treated like garbage. And he didn't have Gojo to stop him from going off the deep end
One thing that hits me about the rain panel in the manga is that it conveys so much about Geto and Gojo’s fates. Just to name a couple, the massive rift in their power after the events with Toji really shows. Geto in the rain signifies the reality of his life path and his CT. He will always have to eat curses to get stronger and will always be closer to them (physically). Whereas Gojo is the exact opposite and his abilities literally make him untouchable. Geto dirty is a sign of his effort. Gojo dirty is a sign of weakness. Second one, Geto in the rain is him accepting “reality” of the world and choosing to abandon his righteous beliefs. Gojo literally has infinite but using an umbrella lmao It makes me think of how Gojo tries to keep a hold of his humanity as he gets stronger which holds him back in way. It’s like Gojo is afraid that he’s only pretending to be human. So he does things like use an umbrella despite the extremely minimal effort of just blocking the rain with infinity.
Bruh not gonna lie, I never understood as to exactly why Geto calls people monkeys. Then I came across toji, the Sorcerer Killer, and then I read the quote "You will all your blessings were beaten by a monkey like me". This is my personal headcannon, but as Geto passed out, the kast thing he could remember was monkeys and the pain thag Toji inflicted on him. So him calling people who cant use Jujutsu monkies might low key be Geto cursing at Toji in the afterlife
I always took it that 'monkeys' was a real thing among the head sorcerer families. I bet Toji heard it A LOT from everyone growing up in the Zenin clan and now he uses it mockingly. But it being PTSD from Toji beating his cheeks is funnier

I know. As a person who was literally isolated because of my "best friend" just wanting me for herself only... I understand the feeling of being alone.. You ask yourself, "Is it my fault that no one wants to be with me?" Or "why doesn't nobody want to be my friend?" Both answers don't change anything. You feel like you're the only person standing in the middle of this world. And I still ask myself. "Why doesn't nobody want to be with me"
I actually feel a little sorry for Geto. He looked like he was happy during his early days at Jujutsu High. He was and could've continued to be a good person and Sorcerer. His downfall was pretty tragic if you ask me.
Don't be sorry for him. He was a fake guy this whole time. Pretending to care about non sorcerer but deep inside him he hated them. And the contrary for Gojo : pretending to not care about weak people but in reality he care about them. The incident with Riko just showed us their true inside feeling for non sorcerer people. If jjk was in real life Geto wouldn't have pity for you cause in his eyes you would be a "monkey" who deserve to die. Don't be fooled by his "kind" and "soft" aura cause in reality he's a murderer.
@@DragonStar524 Yeah cause people care more about his beauty and soft voice. Geto is handsome and seems nice so people don't care about how evil he is. At least "handsome" attack don't work on me cause if you are evil you are evil not matter how handsome you are.

There is a parallel between Geto’s and Gojo’s cursed techinique, that could be important in the plot. Geto’s CT: a never ending disgusting process of absorbing curses. To him, the existence of curses is the reason of his frequent disgust. It’s no wonder he hates non-sorcerers, because their feelings originate the curses he consumes. Gojo’s CT: absolute freedom, heightened perception and a feeling of godhood. Like he says “I don’t hate anyone, this world feels so good”. He is often careless also because he has the ultimate shield and no one can really touch him.
I dunno why but suguru geto is my favorite character in jjk. He reminds me of someone who is named Shirou Emiya where he faced an alternate version of himself being Emiya and Emiya hates shirou because of his ideals unlike suguru shirou still belive in his ideals even though it would lead to a path that would turn into endless suffering , The thing here is Emiya wants to kill his younger self due to him wanting to be a hero of justice and shirou still strive to that while geto reminded me that he wanted to change his path instead of being a hero of protecting the weak he became somewhat of a hero that would want to kill every non sorcerer and is a path of killing aswell.
Yeah im just think geto is what happen to shirou if he see ugly of humanity, people that he care die, and know if he kill the weak he will prefend the people he care to die
This video right here encapsulates why the hidden inventory arc still remains, for me anyway, the peak of Jujutsu Kaiden’s storytelling. I know almost every JJK fan places the Shibuya arc as the series’ opus (for good reason obviously) but hidden inventory just hits different and fleshes out the perspectives of two major characters in a way that feels powerfully unsettling. To your point about Geto; I think he could have been saved and was even in the process of feeling hopeful that there was meaning in the philosophy he lived by until Riko died the way she did. However, to your point, the world of JJK was/is already systematically broken, so by that reason, Geto was always destined to be mentally crushed by the reality of their world; the extreme dedication to the way he follows his ideals without any regard to his sense of self was not sustainable; a fact the arc communicates in a poignant fashion
as someone who constantly ask myself the meaning of everything i never realize how personally close im with geto, im no strong socerer but at one point i was at the top of my class and even manage to get a black belt in taekwando and i also had a best friend beside me. we are insaperatable but after graduation i lost meaning to all of it due to family issues and i began to question my very own existent again until in the end i abandon all morals and achievements i hold back then. recently i had a conversation with one of my friend about unneasiness, he told me "are you making excuses for self affirmation or did you truly understand you are just being self righteous in the end? ground youself in morals you know you wont letgo of"
kinda same here. i fell pretty hard down due to multiple reasons and been telling myself that the one thing im sure of is the righteous aspect of myself. not that its inherently bad but ive noticed that im harbouring pretty twisted ideals on how our world or things should be. righteous most certainly, but merciless on other hand. i dont see a way out but i hope itll stay on the level its at now while getting better in taking care of myself and others really.
It’s worth noting that a large part of Gojos change in feelings towards the weak happen when he becomes so powerful he’s essentially a god. Becoming a god changes your perspective on the very nature and being of life as well as those around you. I believe that’s the true meaning behind Getos line asking whether he is gojo because he’s the strongest or if he’s the strongest because he’s gojo. It points out that being the strongest and essentially all powerful is now an essentially and irrevocable part of his personality and outlook on the world and he’s no longer able to see things from getos perspective because of that
If only he understood how much turmoil his path would cause. Especially considering how much he at least loved the students. Seeing him animated this season makes me mourn what used to be.
I saw somewhere that said that after the incident with Toji, they both took opposite things from him. Gojo inherited Megumi, his "blessings" while Geto inherited his curse.
Geto seems to see everything black and white, which is the weakness of his mindset. His powers involve using evil curses that are doing bad things and capturing them to do good things, but “good” and “bad” relative because serving him is “good” and attacking him is “bad” Gojo’s mindset involves seeing the infin shades of gray
Jesus Christ it's so difficult to listen to you while you're playing these masterpieces of music in the background. You certainly got good taste there.
Dope breakdown, i think regarding the JJK world... we the audience can use our personal morals to decide who's wrong and who's right, but within the JJK world... there's only "might makes right", Gojo's way(generally) is what's allowed because he's the strongest, when Geto said "that's arrogant, because YOU could do it" i realized he was right about Gojo. Whilst some people cry over Geto killing non-sorcerers... i just enjoy the show, Gojo and Geto are two sides of the same egotistical, selfish coin. Yuuji's story is a great representation of Gojo's selfishness, especially when Sukuna decimated shibuya, i realized what the conservatives where trying to prevent.
They’re two sides of the same coin but I wouldn’t say they were entirely selfish. Egotistical yes but they both had the power to back it. Both of them killed and sacrificed people to uphold their own morals and values and their actions weren’t merely motivated by greed, it was more of selfless acts. But we can def see when both choose to be selfish when they’re willing to ignore evil to get what they want. (Gojo letting Geto run free for ten years even after he knows Geto murdered over a hundred etc…)
Thank you for the insights man! I'm reading the manga for a while now and i don't have the time or maybe the will to go this deep alone on my reading so hear the point of view of others is always appreciated
Geto's way to villainy is one of the best I've ever read. Although for my taste he was sometimes a little too racist when it came to non-sorcerers. There was no solid reason to insult Maki since she had it always hard in her life. Though I don't blame Geto. The life of Jujutsu sorcerers is just shitty and dangerous all over. Day in day out he's swolloing curses and they just taste like shit. Still people from jujutsu high die like Yu or are sick of everything and quit like Nanami.
I think it's kinda downtalked what Gojo's ascension as the sole pinnacle of Jujutsu did to Geto. He felt inferior to Gojo, but thought rightfully so cuz that's what the dynamic between a stronger and weaker being realistically looks like. Yet he couldn't comprehend how inferior/weaker beings such as humans could stand on the same ground he stood, relying on sorcerers and still looking down on him and mocking him. He felt disrespected and humiliated. The only principle he abides by is: "Everyone should know their place, according to their ability and value to society". And he just so happens to view humans as most of us view insects.
I did not expect this man to be as sadly deep as he is. When i started watching season 2, i knew it'd be dark, but this makes me sympathize with Geto. So much was running through his head while he knew he could've stopped a death. The scariest thing about Geto's turn for me is the fact he had such utter conviction in this.
Brillaint job Hundred! I thoroughly enjoyed your analysis. Geto is a reflection of the moral dlimmas we face every day as a human trying to exist in civilization.
I appreciate this video so much, coming from someone that watched the series late and ended up binging it without really paying close attention to the details and only looking out for the flashy fights. Thanks again!
“Unlikely enough came across Yuki💀💀 Getou had all those thoughts of killing non-sorcerers way before Yuki even met him. Yuki was just being realistic, she insinuated that whatever path he chose would be he’s choice alone…and he made that choice on he’s own.
I get what you're saying... I do, but nowhere do I ever imply that it's Yuki's fault that he made the choices he made. He ran into her at the wrong time of his life that's all that line means...
Yet from most people's reactions and most of the YT videos and other social medias, they think that Geto is evil even after seeing the circumstances and the trauma he went through. No one cares about Geto. This is also how the world works. Keep the chosen ones and throw away the unfortunate.
@@Geto__0001 But he never implied it was Yuki's fault. She just took part in Geto questioning his own beliefs, making him snap. Because she reminded him of the path he wanted to choose all along. She enabled him, indirectly. Wasnt her intention.
@@HoldMyBANKAI He is evil though? No matter your trauma your actions are your own and wanting to commit genocide is objectively evil.Yea his story is sad and even think it’s an example of how the ju-jitsu world failed him it’s no excuse for the humans he killed who did no wrong except not be sorcerers
If Geto still chose to relinquish his responsibility to the monkeys, but stay as a protector of the protectors what would that have looked like? Would he just actively choose to not engage with non-sorcerers? He could in fact trail all active missions from a distance so if things went sideways he’d swoop in as like a guardian angel. I think that would be a beautiful life for him. It would be great to see him on a better path.
I just have one question. Geto wanted to make a society where there are no curses which ultimately means that he wanted a peaceful world, let's say he achieved that but would it really remain peaceful? We know that there are jujutsu clans who don't like eachother and fight among themselves so even if there are no non sorcerers, the jujutsu sorcerers will fight among themselves and die, his comrades would die at the hands of eachother, so is this what Geto wanted? Is this really the peace that Geto dreamt of?
That's so true. It would all feel so pointless at the end of the day if Sorcerers ended up inevitably fighting amongst themselves. The only plus side is that there would be zero curses for them to oppose (or, in his case, to absorb.)
Great video man. Geto really reminds me of Sensui from the YuYu series which I know heavily inspired this one, gives that same feeling of sadness watching a character fall into despair like that.
Gotta give it to Geto, without him Gojo could have turned out as a badguy as well, there was a spot where he legit hits the "I could do it, I could just kill them all right now." when he was pointing his fingers as if he was able to let a purple loose into a crowd of civilians before Geto told him not to. I'm pretty sure it was the trashy people laughing at the death of an innocent and the thought of losing Gojo that caused him to snap since Toji was a curseless person as well.
very well done! geto is my favourite character and i often feel ppl get his arc completely wrong. his ideals aren't reasonable but hidden inventory gives meaning to why he went down the path that he did
Great video, you really hit the nail on the head with Suguru Geto. Hope your channel is going to blow up in subs so we can see some more analysis videos.
Couldn’t they just announce to the world that curses exist and that they’re born from negative emotions and that way normal people could get help from sorcerers to exorcise curses? Wouldn’t that decrease the amount of curses born if everyone knew they existed?
These comments are making me so fucking sad bro 😭 as much as i love the poetic tragedy of Geto's downfall, with characters like him I still always wonder about the what ifs, even though I know that isn't the point of his arc. Geto would be doomed as long as he was unable to separate his sense of duty from his identity, but I wonder, somewhere along the line, could he have learned to be a little selfish? Could he have at least let go of some of the burden he was taking on? If he hadn't been so isolated, maybe he wouldn't have lost touch with what sense of self he had from interacting with people he was close to. Maybe he could've realized the weight of the world didn't rest on his shoulders alone, and all he could do was try to make a slightly better, safer world for the next generation... Not try to fix everything by himself. I think maybe Nanami would have understood him, if he'd talked to him -- he was disillusioned with jujutsu society too. Gojo probably would've lacked the self-awareness to help, but honestly I doubt Geto would've even tried to confide in him. Imo sheer stubbornness probably did play a larger role in it than people think. Shoko said something along the lines of "Why were you two always saying you were alone? I've been here the whole time."
i think confiding in Gojo would have been his best bet tbh. atm Nanami was too broken himself to help anybody. Gojo has never had any illusions about jujutsu society to begin with. the reason he missed what was happening to Geto (besides him being on missions all the time and not seeing him) is that at that time Geto was still a moral compass in Gojo's eyes. he couldn't imagine anything changing in someone with the firmest morals he knew (again, he didn't see Geto a lot after the Riko mission and Geto stopped him from killing cultists so Gojo didn't have any reasons to doubt it). when he did see him, he noticed something is happening with Geto but Geto seemingly didn't want to burden Gojo on top of the whole jujutsu society burdening him already and Gojo was immediately sent on another mission. i think if Geto did confine in Gojo, he would have suggested something like killing old geezers and changing the rules of jujutsu world right there (i mean this is the same Gojo who was willing to fight Tengen). maybe it still wouldn't have been enough but there was a chance. confining in Yuki was the worst choice lmao that timing was unfortunate
Everyone can say what they want about Geto, but he literally promised someone he cared about a better future and happier life and MOMENTS LATER gets fucking shot in the head right in their face. That would destroy anyone mentally and psychologically, and if it didnt then you wouldve been a psychopath to begin with.
I love Geto . I feel like he was a character who saw things for what they really were and not trying to be someone he wasn't. I hope we get to see more of him. 😊
I love your take! And completely agree with it. This storyline really struck a chord with me. When I say I was devastated, heartbroken, frustrated - I mean I was depressed for like a week… Now that’s a good story! It makes you feel very strongly and makes you think about your own viewpoints and ideals. I also feel very strongly that Geto was completely traumatized by Riko’s murder. I’m talking PTSD level. What he needed most after this event was therapy. But sadly as you stated, he became isolated. Maybe Geto did always look down on non sorcerers. But I think he was genuinely still searching within himself for the good in him. I think what he said to Haibara reveals that; “You say (you’re a great judge of character) while sitting next to me?” It shows self deprecation, like he was sorry or upset that he felt the way he was feeling. That’s why it’s so frustrating when he finally snaps. Especially because you can’t help someone unless they want to be helped. So I agree that by then he couldn’t be saved anymore. That’s why it’s so frustrating and devastating. He was so close yet so far from getting back to a healthy state of mind. And then he rejected the chance, and the chance was gone. I felt so sad about this character, but understood that after this pivoting point he became deplorable, willing to kill any non sorcerer despite their individual characters, values or choices in life. Even going so far as to completely devalue all non sorcerers to a subhuman level; “monkeys”. It’s sad but upsetting at the same time. But you’re so right. This tragedy did lead Gojo to never wanting to fall into it. And to grow as a person. This storyline was so next level!
I feel like maybe if Yuki didn't run her mouth about what would happen if all non sorcerers died at Geto's most vulnerable point would've kept him on track.

The final meeting of Gojo and Geto in the street is beautiful.
"Are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest? Or are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo?"
No matter how strong Gojo was, he was still just a cog in JJK society. Gojo had no personal sense of conviction, no mission in life, no purpose.
Gojo learned to carry on Geto's ideals, "The strong must protect the weak." To reform JJK society, but it cost Gojo his only best friend.
That question is dum. He's Gojo because he's Gojo. No other reason
@@Mavuika_Gyaruthe point of it
Your head
Gojo is reverse. He was gleeful a lot when young
@@JaleelBeig it shattered gojo and liberated geto

The more I think about it this reminds me of Anakin going to the dark side on star wars and the help he could of had before he turn

Absolutely man
Shit, if he learned what kind of an asshole Mahito was being towards Yuji, he would bring fiery HELL on the cursed spirit too.
They would get along greatly since yuuji also knows the taste of cursed objects
Couldn't agree more. He will be perfect for Yuji just like how Nanami handle Yuji's well being when he thought he killed humans. Nanami and Geto will be the perfect starters for 1st years.
This comment whew! The potential this would’ve had, such a waste. It’s really heartbreaking
@@rinseyong5202 Perfectly said👍
@@rinseyong5202 the concept of Posttraumatic Growth does not necessarily mean the trauma has been processed and healed from, actually.
Yeah Geto was able to save Gojo, but he wasn’t able to save himself
Arc*
I also noticed that in the basketball scene when geto and gojo debate their ideals/beliefs, geto fails to get the ball into the net which could symbolize he doesn’t really believe what he’s saying. Meanwhile gojo on the other hand wholeheartedly believes in what he’s saying. Geto is only lying to himself, it’s what he wants to believe is morally right of a jujutsu sorcerer but in reality, deep within his heart he can’t seem to really adhere to his “ideals”.
!! I really liked this scene. Geto was saying this stuff just to say.
No, at this point he truly believed that. If he didn't what the humans did wouldn't of stuck as much. You're reaching hard at this point
All of the stuff geto was saying to gojo in the past seems meaningless because geto didn’t believe that jujutsu sorcerers had the power to continue protecting the ordinary people, but he’s challenging gojos beliefs because now gojo seemingly does have the power to uphold getos old values
true. after they both went through trauma from toji, new powers gojo reached helped him to move forward, and restore resolution knowing that now he's strong enough to prevent the same from happening again. geto didn't get anything that could have helped him to restore his resolution - he kept losing and losing, including losing gojo as his partner, something that was a big constant in his life as a sorcerer.
idk man I think nobody in the world other than Toji could have kept up with Gojo
Sadly that the Jujutsu world is so short staffed that they cant get someone to look after these kids mental health.

I agree with this take.
excellent speech
This singular comment as gave me more info on geto and gojos relationship than any other video on RUclips.
Thx for more info
Kinda like zerofuku from record of ragnarok

@@cdeleon3494 unironically true. They both were a product of their environment and their environment broke them hard.
Geto’s downfall was just another canon event for JJK. Had to happen 🤷♂️

it wasnt though. it was very much so influenced by toji, someone who annihilated fate

Bruh if it wasnt geto it wouldve been someone else....its not like geto is a cannon but rather the downfall of human race is a cannon event
@@aorpopidraws8583 nahhh. This was all done by Toji. An irregular entity. An abnormality
i wouldn't call gojo questioning geto's genocide plan hypocritical - he did it because he regarded geto so highly when it comes to morals, much higher than himself or anyone he knew. geto was a moral compass in his eyes, someone with the strongest ideals he knew. he could imagine anyone doing it, even himself probably, but not geto. i think after everything happened, gojo understood that it was exactly because geto had such high ideals, it broke him so much when they got shattered. that's why 10 years later, during their last convo, gojo said "a man of your principles wouldn't have killed sorcerers if he could help it". that's probably why he avoided killing him for 10 years - he understood what happened to geto and why, and maybe blamed himself for not understanding sooner. but at that time, when he'd just heard what geto did, gojo was so shocked that he couldn't believe it
Honestly seeing geto in the anime and knowing his impending downfall it really breaks my heart fam.
@@TaigaXsenpai I think you might be onto something there 🤔😲
Except kirei looks absolutely badass while doing so. Geto on the other hand though, is just depressing all the way through
geto is my favourite character, i think he's very well written and shows how society can affect a person.

Geto is the only voice of reason why Gojo didn't lash out to the cultist while Geto has no one with him to reason out during the village massacre.
Yuki really told Getou “ No Balls” and it came back around to her getting technically killed by him. 😂

Bruh not gonna lie, I never understood as to exactly why Geto calls people monkeys. This is my personal headcannon, but as Geto passed out, the kast thing he could remember was monkeys and the pain thag Toji inflicted on him. So him calling people who cant use Jujutsu monkies might low key be Geto cursing at Toji in the afterlife
It's 100% Toji PTSD 😂
if im not wrong its a reference to a story in buddhism, which ties in with his robes and philosophy after leaving the school.
I always took it that 'monkeys' was a real thing among the head sorcerer families. I bet Toji heard it A LOT from everyone growing up in the Zenin clan and now he uses it mockingly. But it being PTSD from Toji beating his cheeks is funnier

Geto couldn’t be saved because saving him would imply that he was wrong, which he wasn’t.
I can relate to Geto. Isolation is very painful

I get it and i understand him. But that's not justify his desire to kill all non sorcerers. Cause technically Geto want to kill all non sorcerers ( good or bad one ) not just those who treat sorcerers awfully. Look at how he treated Maki just because she was "basic" in his eyes or how he treated this girl ( who came volontary to him knowing he's a sorcerers) after he healed her in jjk 0 🤷🏻♀️
Kill people who want to kill you it's ok but kill people who don't want to kill you it's something.
Anyway have a good day.
The Hidden Inventory/Premature Death really made me understand Geto as a character, and made me like him so much more. It’s completely understandable why he snapped, as his misery and buried hatred blinded him from the right path.
I wouldn't day Satoru was being a hypocrite but rather that he had finally grown out if being an immature teenager. Understanding that human life has value and strength doesn't give you the right to end the truly unique and scarce experience that is human life.
As a person whose been through this level of isolation pain and went down a downward spiral that led me to the bottom of the pit dont give up. hope is just around the corner. I guarantee you will make it. Talk to friends family anyone being alone is the worst thing you can do our thoughts have a way of manipulating us in times of grief and sorrow and mental anguish. Be safe and when you climb out find someone else that may be going through it hug them give them hope.and to finish off, above all else, know that you are loved. ❤❤❤
Geto had to go down this darkness path so gojo could walk towards the path of light. It's sad but was necessary for plot development

However, to your point, the world of JJK was/is already systematically broken, so by that reason, Geto was always destined to be mentally crushed by the reality of their world; the extreme dedication to the way he follows his ideals without any regard to his sense of self was not sustainable; a fact the arc communicates in a poignant fashion
as someone who constantly ask myself the meaning of everything i never realize how personally close im with geto, im no strong socerer but at one point i was at the top of my class and even manage to get a black belt in taekwando and i also had a best friend beside me. we are insaperatable but after graduation i lost meaning to all of it due to family issues and i began to question my very own existent again until in the end i abandon all morals and achievements i hold back then. recently i had a conversation with one of my friend about unneasiness, he told me "are you making excuses for self affirmation or did you truly understand you are just being self righteous in the end? ground youself in morals you know you wont letgo of"
i might just be be looking into this too deeply but ig you can say i found enlightment in a yt video that has nothing to do with my actual life topic
You'll figure it out brother, just keep moving forward and keep trying your absolute best to improve meanwhile m figuring things out simultaneously
kinda same here. i fell pretty hard down due to multiple reasons and been telling myself that the one thing im sure of is the righteous aspect of myself. not that its inherently bad but ive noticed that im harbouring pretty twisted ideals on how our world or things should be. righteous most certainly, but merciless on other hand. i dont see a way out but i hope itll stay on the level its at now while getting better in taking care of myself and others really.
hope you doing okay friend... hope you find that spark back. ❤
His powers involve using evil curses that are doing bad things and capturing them to do good things, but “good” and “bad” relative because serving him is “good” and attacking him is “bad”
Gojo’s mindset involves seeing the infin shades of gray
"fuck them monkeys" is absolutely wild
If only our literature teacher would be the same as this guy.

Of course he would hate Maki lmao. She's just like Toji.
That was a pretty dang good take on geto and his mentality during this arc! Good job man!

I did not expect this man to be as sadly deep as he is. When i started watching season 2, i knew it'd be dark, but this makes me sympathize with Geto. If Geto still chose to relinquish his responsibility to the monkeys, but stay as a protector of the protectors what would that have looked like? We know that there are jujutsu clans who don't like eachother and fight among themselves so even if there are no non sorcerers, the jujutsu sorcerers will fight among themselves and die, his comrades would die at the hands of eachother, so is this what Geto wanted? Is this really the peace that Geto dreamt of?
That's so true. It would all feel so pointless at the end of the day if Sorcerers ended up inevitably fighting amongst themselves. The only plus side is that there would be zero curses for them to oppose (or, in his case, to absorb.)
top tier video man cant wait to see this pop off more
Great video man.
I love your analysis!! You earn my sub!
Honestly I've never saw Geto's story in this perspective before
You're section at the end about avoiding isolation was really beautiful. Great video
He was such a great character
very well done! geto is my favourite character and i often feel ppl get his arc completely wrong. his ideals aren't reasonable but hidden inventory gives meaning to why he went down the path that he did
Excellent video man. Keep it
Going and never give up. You will have huge success in the future!
Thank you man... I appreciate it!
I see videos discussing this topic of geto, and i gotta say, you did it the best and im only 7 minutes in
Geto is a great character in my eyes.
I think what worked against him besides Yukis beliefs, was his isolation from his friends.
True. If he kept on going with Gojo on missions then his friend could have stopped him from going under
told u this before on ig, but you fr are my favorite jjk youtuber man, ik you gonna blow up soon enough
He da 🐐 fr
For sure man, always appreciate the support bro 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Dawg the music and Writting ascend this video so much. Geto would be proud
Great video, you really hit the nail on the head with Suguru Geto. Hope your channel is going to blow up in subs so we can see some more analysis videos.
Appreciate this, thank you very much! 🤝
U get both of them perfectly ty i undestood them deeper now
Only a JJK video could have "Fuck them monkeys" in the thumbnail and get away with it
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Youre analysis is madddd good
Couldn’t they just announce to the world that curses exist and that they’re born from negative emotions and that way normal people could get help from sorcerers to exorcise curses? Wouldn’t that decrease the amount of curses born if everyone knew they existed?
Holy shit... This is some godly-level analysis. Good shit, dude.
Yuki got what was coming for her tbh
If it wasn't for her kenjaku wouldn't have gotten geto's body in the first place
Karma finds her ways i guess 😂
And she wouldn’t have disappeared when the culling games began, but gojo not sending back geto’s body to jujutsu high caused kenjaku to infest it
This is my first video from you,
The way you talk and edit has a certain clarity to them.

My man Gojo was not done with looking like a Kakashi look alike, bro wanted his own freaking Obito too 💀
Everyone can say what they want about Geto, but he literally promised someone he cared about a better future and happier life and MOMENTS LATER gets fucking shot in the head right in their face. That would destroy anyone mentally and psychologically, and if it didnt then you wouldve been a psychopath to begin with.
This was an awesome analysis on Geto, and really made his character super relatable. Almost too relatable…..👀
Looks like frieza has a new best friend😂
Haha
I love Geto . I feel like he was a character who saw things for what they really were and not trying to be someone he wasn't. I hope we get to see more of him. 😊
wow i never knew he talked to yuki lol that adds a lot of irony to her fight with kenjaku, its like karma almost
I think it wouldn’t change anything since he went on that mission with the two girls getting abused he was already on the edge just a nudge will do
@@ZMonkey03 Nah that's true bro, saw your reply late
Yuki the type of girl that goes to the quiet kid's house and puts a loaded ar 15 in his backpack
