  • Whether you are shooting a Daystate, Brocock, FX, Benjamin, Crosman, Airforce or any other Airgun; there will be times when you need to tune it in the shop. That means you will need an indoor range to gather your data. One of the best (in my opinion) silent pellet traps out there is easily made with products you can find at your local hardware store. The rubber mulch pellet trap has been used in my shop for years and can be made to any size to accommodate the Airgun you are working on. Follow along as we explore and make a new pellet trap for my indoor tuning needs.

    The hourglass shape of that container is perfect for holding in that same backer board, good video

    I use the cardboard boxes from the Post Office filled with rubber mulch. As you shoot up the box wrap it up nice with duct tape. Cheap, too.

    I stacked 8 layers of pre-cut carpet from Menards, put them in a cardboard box and slap targets on front. Super easy and cheap.

      Another great idea! What kind of power can it handle?

    A stack of cheap copier A4 paper does the job. No need for plywood or metal layers or anything..just 40cm of paper

    If you used a substrate that floats like foam packing peanuts, it maybe tree mulch (does the rubber mulch float?), you could dump the whole lot in a 44 gallon drum full of water, with the pellets falling to the bottom and the mulch floating, ready to be reused 🇦🇺

      That is actually how I clean my trap. Little difficult to dry it out. On hot summer days I will spread the wet mulch on the blacktop for a few hours and it is dry again. Great comment! Yes the rubber floats.

    I used a larger tote and didn't cut out so much of the lid (hopefully keep the target below the settle level). I then put the mulch inside a burlap bag. Takes a lot of shots to tear holes in the burlap. When it does, I just lace them closed. My only problem was mine was so big, I had to use the wheelbarrow to move it to the back of the yard 😮. So far so good.

    Just an observation, but since most modern hi-power airguns would easily punch through the top of the Plano, why wouldn't you just keep the original box material as a target mount until it became too damaged to hold the material?

    • @AirgunAdvisor
      @AirgunAdvisor  Год назад +1

      You are correct. The only potential issue is if the plastic cracked instead of making a clean hole. If it cracked in the wrong place it might not hold the material as well over the long run.

    I bought a 20 inch box fan a few weeks ago. The box it came in is 21"x 21"x 4". I cut about 20 sheets of cardboard and put them in the box. I plan to cut a 20"x20" piece of 3/8ths plywood and put that in the back of the box. I intend to put a lot of screws through the back of the box and into the pkywood. I also want to put a couple of eye screws in the back corrners so i can hang the box on the wall.
    21 sheets of cardboard will probably stop the pellets from all of the guns i have. If they don't the plywood will.
    The plan is that every few weeks i will take out the front sheets of cardboard and put new sheets in the back. I will shake out the pellets and recycle them when i get enough of them.

      Sounds like a good plan. You will have to update us on how it works. The only thing you may have is a lot of paper flakes as the cardboard gets eaten by the pellets. Again, update us once you have some use on it.

      Add a couple precut squares of carpet available from most big box hardware stores for a couple bucks. Carpet is amazingly tough.

      @@Kycirion I found out that if I shot the same spot a few times that it will go through 20 sheets of cardboard and 1/4" piece of plywood. I will have to try some carpet next.

    Why cut out the front? Why not just stick your targets on it? You can always cut it out later if needed.

    • @AirgunAdvisor
      @AirgunAdvisor  Год назад

      Great question. I cut the front out of the plastic tub, because when plastic cracks the crack could go anywhere. Thank included cracking the edge of the lid and preventing it from holding the mulch afterwards. By cutting it, I prevent that from being a possibility. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
