- Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has called on Ukrainian President Vlodomyr Zelenskyy to consider a ceasefire with Russia.
Orban was speaking during his first visit to Kyiv since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. President Zelenskyy said Ukraine needed a 'just peace' and called on Europe to maintain the supply of military aid to his country.
Viktor Orban's visit was also his first foreign trip since Hungary assumed the EU's rotating presidency on Monday.

Orban isn't giving pieces of sovereign Hungary territory to Russia. Russia has more land than any other country in the world. It is ridiculous for them to insist on more. Putin has been picking on Ukraine by taking from them. We can't have a world full of countries that act like that.

The unity of the EU has been shattered by the EU weaponizing the EU budget and legal apparatus against national electorates that dared to vote in an "incorrect" manner. It already achieved regime change in Poland in this manner, threatened Italy with the same, and Hungary is holding on by reaching out outside of the EU. The EU is not a monolith. The EU as an organization is more or less just a framework which a member state (or a region) may or may not be able to make good use of. Some are thriving, some not that much. I think those countries and societies that are ecologically-minded thrive quite to a large extent..
Sustainability is also important, not just the current economic output. Things like soil / air / water quality..

I'm glad that the EU can only decide based on consensus & not at the whims of Orban. Conceding those Russian occupied areas in Ukraine in exchange of ceasefire would be inviting Putin to continue on with the annexations & that bogus referendum conducted outside of Russian jurisdictions.

As a Hungarian American I don’t appreciate openly stating he’s not going to support Ukraine in the war but wants to meet with Ukraine when the war is winding down to try to broker peace deals. You don’t care about Ukraine at all. You just want to preserve power in Hungary. You need to step down.

Did you participate in the elections? You know democracy here works differently. Usually the party gets the most votes will make the government. So just because you as absically a foreigner asking another countries government to step down, it will not happen.

well, It looks like Viktor Orban is attempting to help both Ukraine and Europe simultaneously. He could potentially play a key role in negotiating peace in Europe by engaging with Putin and other NATO members. If he can facilitate discussions between them, he might just be able to bring about peace.
First he would have to convince bunker grandpa to withdraw all his troops from all of Ukraine. That'll never happen. And Ukraine can never be safe from rusha as long as they've won just a little bit from their unjustified war. Because they'll come back for more unless they know they're not able to.

Hungary is the only country capable of creating peace in Ukraine and Europe. We all know what Russia wants in Ukraine, and they don want any piece of Ukraine, but they will take a half or all of Ukraine if Ukraine wants to be a satellite country for the US and NATO.
Hungary understands very well these dynamics and they are able to assure allay Russia's fears, just as the last leader of Germany did. Unfortunately, European countries are led by people who are not old enough to understand several things in history and how Russia works, and that's why we ended up here.
The Ukraine war would have started a long time ago, at least 20 years ago, as far as Russia had been warning of NATO expansion. But Russia has been patient and understanding. It was the build up of American troops and NATO troops and war games in Ukraine that led to the war.
1963 Cuban missile crisis is the exact useful solution for ukraine, and the Hungarian leader knows that. The Americans don want that coz they want war in Europe coz it creates jobs in America and makes America rich from sales of nato-grade weapons.
