A brilliant bit of serendipity is that there is a mythical creature here in the US called the Thunderbird that is viewed by many of our Native cultures as a spirit of power and strength. This includes the Ojibwe, who’s culture Jazza based his new space bears on. It might have been what GW based the name off of, but I haven’t been able to find any origins for the name. So I’d like to think that it was just a fine example of synchronicity.
the amount of care they've taken into truly representing a culture without it being offensive or rude and actually learned the meanings of everything really just warms my heart. Space Bears are really becoming this big labor of love and it's awesome, can't wait to see more of this!
Dave, just a general 3D modeling tip, when inserting edges, you want to actually insert edge loops the go all the way around the model. For example, at 2:06 you have a large N-Gon, which is a polygon with more than 4 vertices and edges. In that large thick rectangle, it actually has way more than 4 sides, because each point that it shares with those little rectangles makes a new edge. This probably won't matter in a stationary model, but if you wanted to make battle damaged version, the geometry wouldn't deform correctly. Hope that helps!
Blenders fill tool is amazing, obviously if you're doing something complex you're not gonna get the best topology but if you're after something quick and dirty, an autofill and then converting tris to quads often does the job for me
9:50 I'm glad y'all are being like, sensible and reasonable about drawing from Native American aesthetics for the Space Bears as opposed to the alternatives.
I was at the second largest GW store in the world and their motto is: as long as it is about 70% GW, we are happy campers and happy to have you come and paint n stuff.
I know right? The Space Bears are one of my favourite chapters in terms of their aesthetic alone, alongside some other custom chapters, like the Soul Haunters. Though it's the enthusiasm and love that goes into the Primursa Marines that really makes these custom chapter videos stand out.
Y’all should definitely make a Space Bear version of the Thunderwolf cavalry or Wolf lord on a Thunderwolf. But of course instead of Thunderwolves they would be Thunderbears and would use the Thunderwolf stats
Eyy I've been waiting to see this tank!! How cool is it to hold what you've spent hours making?! Some of the pieces, the feathers specifically, look so delicate, but really accentuate how badass the chapter is. Well freaking done, Dave!
This has been fantastic to watch. I’m building my own Space Marine chapter and have had a hard time thinking of what to do for vehicles, but this has been an amazing inspiration! Thank you, guys!
I absolutely love how they go all out on the space bears If it were m i would leave it at ‘good enough’, and ultimately be dissatisfied (cause good enough is never good enough)
I'm really glad to see the 3d modeling process and how to make custom bits! I know it probably won't appeal to the majority of viewers but I'd love to see more of this type of stuff.
Dave, if you want to fill faces, just select one of the edges and press F, also works when its only 3 edges, you can even spam it if you want to fill a whole line
I love your Space Bear videos and think it's great to see your army expanding. Much inspiration gained for my Tempest Arcturus, will definitely be buying those files to bulk out my Armoured Company, alongside my Bear Cavalry which is a definite MUST for the Astra Primursa!
I have no clue if the travel and scheduling would ever work out, but I think y'all and this custom chapter would be an amazing guest on the 40K in 40 Minutes series with Play on Tabletop channel. They have done showcases of custom conversions of guests in the past and I think your stuff would be an amazing fit.
And this is why I really want to get a 3d printer, too bad I don't have the space to set one up properly. Amazing video, and Repulsor tank. It inspires me more to get off my duff and get to work on my own custom chapter projects, the Umbra Ursa and the Iron Wolves.
This has inspired me to make my own chapter, thanks for sharing! Dunno when I'll actually get to the minis part put my ideas are starting to come together
Wow, that looked really great. Those small changes really improved the look of the vehicle. My largest problem is cleaning up the insides. I can create vehicles and custom icons for the army but it doesn't mean they are printable, unfortunately.
Currently using some of the marine bits for my custom Hawaiian inspired chapter. It still requires some conversion, but it's great starting pieces. Especially the heads!
Ooooooo, that tank model looks so beautiful, it almost makes me want to build my own! But yeah, time, space, money ... Anyway, I'm happy that the Space Bears Arsenal (bearsenal ?) is expanding, hopefully this will lead to epic battle reports and/or roleplay sessions!
Oh man, as a 3D modeler for games it is so jarring watching people do it for printing. So many rules just go right out the window haha! Good work on those models, the army is coming along so well :) cheers!
very cool....I was just modelling in Blender last night. If I could suggest looking up some keyboard shortcuts for Blender which makes modelling so so much easier and faster. I could see you used knife tool a bit and you used Array modifier (loved what you did with the Curve modifier/Array modifier combination.) There's also an Edge Slide option, which slides an Edge in Edge Mode along the Face it's on to help line things up and Ctrl+R gives you the Loop Cut tool to help add more faces and cuts to the mesh. But anyway, loved this build and really cool use of the printed stuff you added to the tank. Very cool build here. :)
I've been using Blender to make Kurnoth weapons for my Sylvaneth armies. It's so freeing being able to kitbash digitally, especially with tiny inlaid designs like the trim, isn't it? Great work, I'm excited to see the end result.
oh my god, watching this as a professional 3D artist hurt so much haha. I mean...The end result looks great, so good on you guys, and to be fair, It dosnt matter that much since its being printed, but still xD
This is super cool, but I will note a high pitched whine behind Dave's voiceover during the first like 1/4 of the video and the outro. I'd love to watch Dave go through the modeling process more in depth.
@@queencyrys6309 OR we could even homebrew a new Primarch! It would fit in the lore: There ARE two missing Primarchs we don't even know about. And these Marines are much more Russian than Norse, so they'd be different enough to warrant their own Primarch. Yes, Russ would definitely serve as a baseline, but think about the possibilities!
I noticed that the native american heads arent available as print files with Puppetswar. is that something that your partners on the space bears will be making available?
I'm a dad and everytime I look at that chapter icon my mind goes "PAW PATROL, PAW PATROL, we'll be there on the double..." - Frickin grimdark PAW PATROL...
After seeing the progress of the Space Bears, I just thought: wouldn't it be a great opportunity for Halloween to see Chaos corrupted Space Bears? Maybe a former female Inquisitor, which was transformed into a Daemon Price and her past was connected to the Space Bears; former friend to the chapter master or advisor.
only half way through the vid but wanted to put this down before I forgot, check out Artisans of Vaul, he goes over several add ons for Blender that would really help with your work flow Keep up the good work btw!
Hi Dave, as I see some 3D Modeling Tips popping up in the comments, and some of the advice given is quite situational. I would like to recommend to you the Hardsurface modeling course by Gleb Alexandrov as well as his Video about N-Gons. In addition you should check out Zacharias Reinhard Channel where he gives some really great blender modeling tips. I myself have a background in games and 3d animation and think those resources will help you to become way faster to your desired result.

Please do a bear force one Imperial knight🤖
He described them as patient, hibernating, stoics, I say take some inspiration from the Finns.
It's nice jazza is accepting more vehicles to the space bears but he still need more dreads
They look like bears already, why doesnt he want them?
kirioth is that you?
You always need more dreads, can’t have the old folks home filling up now, can we?
That presumes there's lots of bears getting maimed all over the place.
Petition gw to make them canon

We need at least a short displaying all of the space bears models so far! I look forward to seeing all of the finished pieces!
I love the various emblems. I imagine them being representative of different companies or maybe "family" heraldry
Y’all should definitely make a Space Bear version of the Thunderwolf cavalry or Wolf lord on a Thunderwolf. But of course instead of Thunderwolves they would be Thunderbears and would use the Thunderwolf stats
What we really need are Thunder Cats!
Could use the scibor war bears
The feathers and chain hanging off of the main gun barrel is incredible! Excellent job on this.
Eyy I've been waiting to see this tank!!
How cool is it to hold what you've spent hours making?! Some of the pieces, the feathers specifically, look so delicate, but really accentuate how badass the chapter is. Well freaking done, Dave!
Thank goodness for 3d printing
Gw doesn't like bits anymore so it's up to people like you guys
This has been fantastic to watch. I’m building my own Space Marine chapter and have had a hard time thinking of what to do for vehicles, but this has been an amazing inspiration! Thank you, guys!
The snow really brings that tank together and I love it
I absolutely love how they go all out on the space bears

That pc looks like a dream and THE SPACE BEARS ARE GETTING COOL!!!!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO ASTRA PRIMRISA
Tank looks dope and love the feathers on the barrel.
Missed the opportunity to add a space bear tech marine on the gun
right
You really hit the spot here, wonderfully customized!
Nice looks like I'm not the only one who started out with 3d printing and decided to model my own legion and models
Dave slowly looking more and more like a space bear
I'm really glad to see the 3d modeling process and how to make custom bits! I know it probably won't appeal to the majority of viewers but I'd love to see more of this type of stuff.
Oh your Bear Tank will look so awesome!
The Space Bears chapter is truly coming together nicely!
Did some tinkering with the space bear claws for my berserk inspired killteam and the files were a pleasure to work with!

I would love to see the new plastic Leviathan Dreadnought converted up as it feels very in line with the look that you're all going for.
And this is why I really want to get a 3d printer, too bad I don't have the space to set one up properly.
Amazing video, and Repulsor tank.
It inspires me more to get off my duff and get to work on my own custom chapter projects, the Umbra Ursa and the Iron Wolves.

Now make a squad of vanguard veterans

needs a big bear claw push guard/plow on the front
We need a jazza video where he makes art with the 3d print stylus thing where it makes it taller whenever you go over it
Nice Wesley Crusher sweater!!
I've been using Blender to make Kurnoth weapons for my Sylvaneth armies. It's so freeing being able to kitbash digitally, especially with tiny inlaid designs like the trim, isn't it?
Great work, I'm excited to see the end result.
Not gonna lie, looking better than a lot of official GW bits.
I love Repulsor tanks but really anything that can jump up is pretty sick love my deathcompany units in deep strike.
Finally, bear here.
Let’s Go- I’m excited to back the Bears 🐻
I love the snow on the tank
You should definitely have discussed the painting. It’s a missed opportunity and looks great
Bulge buster will fix your issue with the first layer over exposure when printing right on the plate.
Really enjoyed this episode mate. So satisfying to go from whoa to go.

im not even a professional lol, ive only been modeling for like a year or 2 and i was still cringing at this lmao

Hi I was just wondering what CAD do you use thanks
Kinda miffed that they didn't take the opportunity to call them the "Drop(zone) Bears"... ⬇️🐻
Would you guys be willing to do a side series teaching how to use blender for printable 3D objects?
fantastic bits :)
The background static noise was brutal on the dialogue. Otherwise, top notch content as always.
