  • Sports Photography - "Lockdown STOPS Play!" Empty Stadiums but Horse Racing still goes ahead!
    With ALL Premier League, Championship, L1 & L2 matches postponed, I headed to Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium to capture the CLOSED scene! I was then sent to Fontwell Races as all race meetings still went ahead.
    Not too much tech in this vlog. A brief look into Photo Mechanic 5 and how I upload cards, as well as the usual frame settings.
    It was still good to have a days work, if very different to my normal Saturdays! However, like thousands of other freelance photographers and journalists, the coming weeks look very doubtful work wise!
    Watch this space!
    Meanwhile, I shall try and keep my eye in, either making trips out to photograph landscapes or having a fly with the drone.
    THANKS for your support guys, catch up soon.

    Love those remote shots. Is that a typical 'press room' at the races? You have to bring your own hospitality!

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Pete. It was just easier to “make a workspace” in the tractor shed than walk 10 mins back to the press room!

      Mark Kerton I thought you was 🤔 anyway, you are in my eyes. Never heard of that Photo Mechanic before. Just watched a few clips about it on RUclips and looks interesting 👍🏻

      David Featherstone Classed as Pro I guess as I wean a living from it. Just being modest I guess👍🏻 Yeh, Photo Mechanic is industry standard really David. I’ll feature a more in-depth vlog on it soon👍🏻

      Mark Kerton So you shoot everything in JPEG for easy transfer rather than RAW 🤔

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 года назад +1

      That’s right David Yeh👍🏻 Only really shoot RAW for personal stuff.

    Hi Mark, thanks for another great video, I do love football and my other love is Horseracing especially with the family, you caught some great images at Fontwell, just wondering if any of the photos are available for me to buy direct from you? Thanks again Mark 👍

      Thanks👍🏻 It was nice to get a bit of racing in. Crowds were well down which was a shame! I was on shift for PA so they own the copyright I’m afraid, so I can’t sell any images. I know they are on the PA site and can be purchased, not sure on prices? www.paimages.co.uk/headline/1455437#2.51343407

    loved the video mark... regarding editing... obviously the aim is perfect in camera but when you do edit, is its just a case of what you think looks best or do the agency like a certain look etc? And when you do edit, what are the key things to try and 'get right' (sharpening etc)?

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Tommy. Editing wise, we don't receive any editing guidelines as such. I know for sure though, if I over edited a frame the desk would contact me and advise. An editing vlog is planned. Its always a controversial subject, as we all edit in different ways but I will show how "I" do it.

    Hi Mark,
    A quickie for ya with the footy and the racing photo’s how many focus points do you use and where do you focus on to make the shots pop.

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 года назад

      Hi Nigel. I use single spot focusing. So try to aim the single square at the players chest area, head if I’m at 2.8. Usually use f4 for racing and aim for the horses head. Sounds awful that🤣 I briefly covered this in a recent video from a match when you’ve got time to skip back and have a watch👍🏻

    I noticed at the start of this video Mark, when you were setting up the ingest, that you opened the 'stationary pad' and changed it all, but the box to 'apply to all ingested images was unchecked. I have it ticked so all images ingested take on that stationary pad info. Did you just miss that box check????

    Hi Mark, recently found your channel and watched a bunch of your video's over the last few days. How many football games a season would you say you photograph at?

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 года назад

      Hi Barnsey. Thanks for supporting the channel. I usually cover a minimum of 1 game per week, sometimes up to 3 depending on fixtures. I'd just started documenting games when Lockdown came in! Hopefully back pitchside soon!

    How would you get involved in taking photos at Racecourses and Meetings do you know Mark?

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  3 года назад +1

      Best route is with an agency. Beforehand you can get some good images as a punter at any meeting, to help build a good portfolio before approaching an agency👍🏻

    So it looks like your editor/publisher wants the photos down-sized to 3500px max edge. Is that pretty much standard in the industry, or does it change publisher to publisher?

    • @MarkKerton
      @MarkKerton  4 года назад +1

      Hi Rob, yes that’s pretty much industry standard. Some agencies don’t seem to mind how the second edge is but I just find it easier to keep it at a consistent crop. Keep safe👍🏻

    Great vlog Mark, can I just ask you, are you triggering the remote camera automatically from the trigger on the hot shoe at the same time as your main body. I’m asking because I have just started photographing a local amateur football club. Thanks again for a great video
