- ReRez and company (Digital Depth Inc.) presents the All Controller. A Kickstarter & Indiegogo campaign where this controller can be used on many different video game console devices. From PS4 / Xbox One to Nintendo Switch, this controller does it all from blinding buttons, macro commands and many more. Does this controller live up to the hype, or is all show?
On paper, a universal gamepad sounds like an awesome idea. The scope for this was beyond what the developers assumed it would be and they obviously didn't step up to meet demand. Would have been cool to see the timeline where this wasn't a waste.
That hype man was hilarious. "THIS IS A GAME CHANGER! MY MIND IS BLOWN!!!" I was waiting for him to break out the gold clock necklace and yell "YEEEEEAAAHHHH BOOOOYYYYY!!!"

Ironic because Shane regularly shits on projects and games for failing. His its just bad series should feature a video dedicated to his all controller.
Not really his, he may have promoted it unpaid but that's his only role.
@@JamesRichards-zk2hl Even though he is what you said most people will see him as involve cause he admits in the video that he was one of the creator of the product. When people hear that they immediately attach him to the project and the scam. If anything goes wrong they'll come after him, this is why you need to be careful what you said online cause most people will not see it the same as others.

Doesn't seem like a comfortable controller to hold. Every time it's demonstrated it looks like they have to claw at it. Never mind the fact that it looks terrible.

@@arkhikunagreed, although I haven't tried an Xbox elite controller to be fair. Horis for my switch and my retrofighters controllers are also great (specially the DC was a massive upgrade from the godawful oem controllers lol).

This was really interesting Secret! I've watched heaps of videos on Kickstarter scams/failed projects yet I've never heard of this one. It was cool getting two videos from you in one day, back to back listened! Nice to get something outside of the Phil-verse too :) good on you! Your editing and story telling is always fantastic
Great video, I was a huge fan of Shane and NEARLY pulled the trigger on backing this since I'm a big controller nerd too. I didn't though, as I've never backed anything and awaited a commercial release. It never happened, and I followed this for years and was glad with my decision not to give them money.
Well, some people did receive their controller but yeah they never went public with the product and their indiegogo campaign ended up being suspended, I truly wished back then that the project went public.
Seeing Rerez promoting a kickstarter controller after watching his “The Worst ever” series is kinda ironic.

It's kind of amazing how patient people are with kickstarters. If it's a year late, stop asking for a delivery date it's obviously not happening. Ask for a refund as soon as they miss their first deadline, and if they refuse contact your bank. Don't wait around and get screwed.

to be fair they could've added a "tournament mode" which disables all superflous functions. a lot of corsair boards have a switch on the back to turn on tournament mode and has a big red LED and a door to keep the switch engaged in tournament mode

Not only did he left, they left too. The ALL controller is all but a memory now, those backers are just talking to air online. There's no one at the ALL Controller company answering anything on their website anymore. Heck I don't even think they had a company at all. It's just a bunch of dudes wanting money and choose to make a Chinese game controller and failed at it.

This was one of those kick starters I was super heavily interested in however a lot of the kickstarters failed and so I wasn't willing to back anything.
I don't remember if I knew about Shovel Knight before it was ever even on Kickstarter but I know I was at least there after it first came out because I definitely bought it before they added any of the DLC.

I think what ultimately killed the whole project were the firmware and display. If they were assembing the components by hand, then who’s to say they aren’t programming the microcontrollers by hand as well? And if anything was wrong with the PCBs, then there’s possibly some microsoldering involved. This is absolute logistical hell for any small team operating at scale.
oof. I feel bad for the backers. My first (and last) crowd-funding burn was waaaaay back in like 2012, also with a controller! It never saw the light of day but at least the creator tried his best to refund everyone or provide alternate options. after that I swore never to back a product again. I did end up backing some things here and there (1 video game - Prodeus and a few board games -- all turned out successfully thankfully.)
The brook xone se paired with a Xbox pro controller does everything this thing does. Also the big big won adapter is even better!

I made the mistake of backing this on Indiegogo. 5 years & $105 later, I still don't have it. If I get it, I'll do a RUclips review it then probably sell it. I'd love to get at least a little money back from these worthless scammers.

It is sad, because overall, its a really great idea. Having a universal controller is always someone can dream of
There's like ten or so universal controllers on the market right now, this thing is not a new idea anymore. 8BitDo, Retro Fighter, Retro-Bit, Hori, Logitech, PowerA, Hyperkin, etc., these guys made some very decent to great universal controllers whether wired, bluetooth, 2.4Ghz wireless or a combination of all of those with pretty much every features known to man right now such as rumble vibration, haptic feedback, macro support, hall effect joysticks, trigger buttons, NFC support, shortcut back button, touch pad, shoulder buttons, 4 face buttons, 6 face buttons, d-pad, etc.
My guess is that the screen in the controller is what fucked them the most (assuming this wasn't a scam to begin with). None of the alternatives had one and one of them even used an app on a phone for the display.
I love his RUclips channel but I never knew about this. I've seen a lot of his videos but not all but he never made any mention of about the controller.

I will never hand money over to a hardware Kickstarter unless I know the product design is basically complete and that the team has a lot of experience bringing products to market. Hearing that they were being hand assembled doesn't surprise me. A lot of these projects fall into an awkward batch size. Most are too big to assemble by hand but also too small that assembly houses won't do it without charging prohibitively expensive rates.
How come those other people that received their ALL controller doesn't make a review video of those? Are there some kind of NDA they sign that wouldn't allow it or did it just became defect on arrival that they threw it away?

For me, the real deal-breaker is the lack of an RJ45 jack, which is critical to get it working on retro systems like the best-selling PlayStation 2. So the product is a lie after all.

Ngl i'm never a fan of when the sticks are side by side with each other, I much prefer the xbox layout where the left thumbstick is higher than the right thumbstick, much more comfortable in my opinion

@@JamesRichards-zk2hl True, which is why Shane doesn't deserve to be considered a scammer--he clearly did not spearhead this project nor did he expect it to flounder as long as it did. However, his statements and criticisms of something like the Wii U are now hypocritical and blatantly disingenuous. The Wii U Gamepad was a functional device that met its demand for shipments, even if it wasn't what Nintendo hoped for. It also works very well and has held up to the test of time, seeing as 10 years have passed and I can still play with mine as long as the battery is maintained/replaced.

Ok, but how did this ever take off? Why did it ever get funded? I've played multiple FPS at a competitive level and can tell you from the first glance that it looks like cheap garbage, has too few buttons, an unergonomic design and that the sticks will likely be absolutely irredeemably bad. What the fuck was the idea behind the faux dpad(?) in the center, with those triangular buttons awkwardly placed like that? If you got scammed by this please learn what a good controller should look and feel like.
Considering there are already products like the magic-ns (a lot cheaper than the alternatives mentioned in this video) that offer connectivity of established and widely used quality controllers across PC, android, and console platforms, there isn't a big advantage that the product brings to the table.
Yes the promise of macros and button mappings are nice, but I think these were just ideas that weren't actually possible between platforms. I would have thought Logitech, madcatz or Hori would have already brought a controller to market if it was possible. There's just too many variables and proprietary technology to have an All-In-One device that works seamlessly between all platforms.

@@CineGoodog You can't really compare this kickstarter to the Ouya. The Ouya *came out*. The Ouya itself wasn't a shoddy Chinese piece of hardware. It at one point had a playerbase. The problem was that it was not sustainable, especially in direct competition to today's platforms and support dwindled fast after it launched. It was a very short lived success, whereas the ALL controller is a kickstarter that took funds and didn't even get off the ground.
