Good evening / morning you lovely people. During my time off through this pandemic, I've created a 100 list on things about Philip Paul Burnell aka DSPGaming aka Darksydephil. From his let's play career to his stuff behind camera, I covered everything you wanted to know from TheKingOfHate. The way this channel plays everything about Phil as some faux overproduced watchmojo clone narration channel and presents itself seriously is genius

He used to get 1 million views a month, but each video would only get 1000 views. He would chop a 6 hour let's play into ten minutes segments. So anybody who watched it, instead of one view, they would have to watch 36 videos to watch the one let's play. 1000 viewers would then multiply into 36,000 views for one let's play. Then he made videos 6 days a week. Sometimes multiple let's plays in a day. That is how his channel got 1 million total views a month from his very limited fan base.
Tbf that's how you had to do it originally. You had a hard ten minute time limit for videos. Every let's player was doing it, and 1k views back in the early days of youtube was very good. Tens of thousands meant you were a big channel, hundreds of thousands meant you went viral. RUclips was also a LOT smaller, a LOT less people were browsing, so if you could retain those 1k viewers through tens or hundreds of parts then you were doing pretty good.
The time limit was raised to 30 for a select few after a few years...I think it was for partnered channels? Then it was a big thing for everyone to be able to do 30 minute videos, then it was a _massive_ thing when they announced hour long+ videos but no one had any reason to do them since yeah, more videos meant more views. Quantity over quality was the way you played the algorithm, until they changed the algorithm.
DSP definitely spammed his channel and played quantity over quality far past the point it was a viable strategy but to imply he was never pulling decent numbers for the time isn't true. He had enough fans to hold a small panel and fill most of the room at a convention, another big deal for the time. And he got hired by Machinima towards the begininng of the company, so he got a very good contract and was around to benefit from the height of Machinima.
Not saying this to defend his honor or something, I just think the context of _how good Phil had it on RUclips_ back then is important to understand just how much he's thrown away in his life because he has no business sense, is far too stubborn/lazy to change, and he just throws away valuable relationships regardless of how logically beneficial they are to him (FGC, Hutch/Machinima, Rambo and Howard and Respect the Pact, etc.)
DSP declared and received his bankruptcy, clearing over $131k in credit card debt, made over $120k in 2020, and he STILL cries poor to this day.
The whales financing him honestly don't deserve their money.
Those idiots are just throwing money into a blackhole
He defrauds them weekly.. and calls begging random stranger a business... he literally does less work creating videos than a ring doorbell, truly.

Honestly I probably would have never found out about the amount of trolls / detractors this guy has if he didn't literally mention that there's a million of them in each and every video. I've been watching since 2008 but only now have I actually begun watching and subbing to detractor channels because of the sheer amount of them out there. Favorites are Snort Burnell and Soma Julius Cruz. Apparently It'saGundam is a detractor as well but he's a bit too caught up in the whole SJW / PC incel political culture for me

One thing I noticed was just how poorly Phil has aged over the past decade or so. The guy looks like he's in his fifties these days, despite being at least 10 years younger than that.

I genuenly love how this video starts, tricking you into being a video praising DSP and talking100 positive things about him, when it's only like 9 good things, and the rest are just bad things about him that talks about his failure as a streamer, how toxic he is and how horrible he is as a person and in finance. And the purpose of the video is merely facts about him

I love the way that every success is down to DSP but every failure is down to the game being broken or the controller not working. But DSP carries this perspective into every facet of his life. The way he always falls back into this victim mentality without ever actually addressing his own faults. He was so lucky to unwrite all that debt. Over $100k written off. Basically had a gambling addiction and managed to avoid financial accountability. And then talking about it like it was his right to do that. The guy is an entitled piece of shit with NPD.
