The correct term for the covers over the exhaust is "heat shields." They're there to keep you from getting burned. I like the look of the lowered rear, BTW!
Throw some non ethonol in there if you dont already, and once in a while a little splash of octane booster. I run a little rich too because of my power demands. It smells pretty sweet at red lights, has a mean cackle on the decels. I love your exhaust though man. Sounds way better than my chopped cobras.
Thank you so much! I used a 2.5" lowering kit from a company called scootworks. It is a bolt on kit, and only runs like $120. Their website is scootworks.com
When I bought the bike, it already had the exhaust baffles removed. It has always been so loud that I never really noticed the whining sound. Where does the sound originate from?
Hi, Fredrik. The pilot jets are a #50, and the mains are #130 and #135. I can't remember which cylinder is running the bigger jet though. Check out www.6sigmajetkit.com. If you supply them with a list of your mods they will build you a jet kit. They provide a ton of documentation as well that has tips and tricks in it.
I bought this model new in 98 it wasn't fast I traded it for a 800 Vulcan after the first year owning it the Vulcan had a little more power then I traded that for another Kawasaki the nomad 1500 then a year later traded that for a new yamaha 1600 roadstar in 2000 now I own a 2002 Honda VTX 1800 it's a beast it will go around 140 it's my baby
I have an 02 stock intake with kn filter.jetted and pipes with Vance n hines..stock gearing and I have no issues commuting at 90 to 100mph highway 40 plus miles to work. It's a not fast. But the torque for a 750 cruiser gets the job done with two adults and fully loaded for camp..
I had to go back and look up what sizes I ran. I did a 132 on the rear cylinder, and a 130 on the front. I ran a 40 on both of the pilots. I wish I would have ran a 45 though, as I have the fuel screw turned all of the way out. I could only put a single shim on the needles, as they are the twist in place variant. I did not end up drilling the hole in the slides either. All of this, plus the 4 degree timing advance woke the bike up fairly well. I do need to adjust the floats though, as it is getting starved for fuel at high RPMs up on the highway. What are you running.
I put a 130 on the base carb and a 125 on the front I was gonna order a 128 but never got around to it. I put 45 pilots in and bought an adjustable e-clip float needle on the second notch. I was left with 2 1/4 turns out which is stock. It seems to have plenty of power now. With the intake and straight pipes and re-jet but I'd like to know more about the timing advance
So we are running a really similar setup. I really need to run some bigger pilot jets though, as I hate having mine turned way the hell out. The 4 degree timing thing is actually pretty simple. It is just time consuming because of all of the disassembly/reassembly. Here is a link to a really good write up on it. www.vt750dc.com/related-links/sa750-com/146-4-timing-mod
The bigger pilot jets would definitely help out yer mid-range a little. Mine is a little bitchy at idle tho and only likes to start with the choke on. I'll be reading up on that timing advance thanks.
Time to tear my carbs out again then!! Bigger pilots, here I come. That is weird that yours is needing to be choked at start up. Before I did all of the jetting, mine was a little hard to start and idle. Now I just barely tap the starter, and it idles like a dream. Both in the heat of the summer, and cold of winter. You're welcome. Let me know if you do the timing thing! :-)
That's an expensive way the wreck your motor. rejetting good, after market intake good but unequal length no baffle exhaust is little better than no exhaust at all. Look up S&S exhaust video. They did a video on this topic using an actual dyno! Buy a real exhaust before you wreck your motor.
Having reduced back pressure will equate to a weaker mid-range, and some carbon build up on the valves. I run some seafoam through it about once every few months, and it's as clean as a whistle. I've also checked the plugs multiple times, and there is no sign of it leaning out at all. I appreciate the input, but i'm not too concerned about it.
I had that on there for a long time, but didn't like the look of it. I have since removed the exhaust that is shown in the video, and did a really cool side swept version.
Would be mice to see. I've had 2 ace 750s, both a 2001 model, pretty much same specs. Of all the bikes I've owned, this is the one I've regretted selling, the nimbleness and the sound and looks, really can't be beat. I'll definitely get another one soon. These are just such a cool classic bike. The one I've always really liked.
I too really enjoy the bike. It's not the fastest thing around, but it is pretty fun either way. Sounds like it is time for a second video, as I've made several more mods to the bike since I recorded this. :-)
Still to high..I run a SR which drops it over 6 inches and gives me 1/4 an inch of clearance..I staged 3 my exhaust and run TC customs BRUTAL EXHAUST...Loys of brass, drag bars, wrapped my pipes, signal delete, gold chain, black powder coated front end, custom twin velocity stack card..brass foot pegs,no key just a hidden brass dwitch which also let my bars stay clean EXCEPT for accelarator ..nothing else..Horn,lights on /off switch as well as a low & high beam.Paint is 1955 porsche Vapor Blue metallic tins..frontbis lowered 1 inch. Seat is a 1963 Bate with red brazilial leather on 1mm of foam..
Hi mate! Really big sound! Can i ask you how you solve the whine sound of the engine? I see someone says is the original sound of the engine, someone says is a stator issue. Here a link of what i’m referring: ruclips.net/video/m2TYf1mBKEY/видео.html I really want to buy a 1999 ace, but definitely don’t want that sound! Yours is perfect but i don’t know how to reach that, or if it is at least possible!
Why wouldnt you just buy a custom set from TJ Brutal Customs like I did $300 and Inalso wrapped them. They are better than Clint can make and they have a lifetime warranty..and not only look & sound killer but added 8hp 5.4ft lbs trq Plus your bike sounds like its missing at idle with that exhaust ..Mine is lowered 6.5 inches in rear AND Hatdtailed with a Bates style solo seat,Velocity stack Twin ITB INTAKES ,Drag bars ..I had it painted 1955 Porsche Vapor Blue Silver Mettalic,Shorty rear fender..Tossed the front,it will now do well over 125 AND DUDE!! THATVINTAKE!! NO..YOU CAN HAVE ONE I HAVE..I GOT ONE FREE AND THOUGHT I COUKD GIVE IT AWAY..NOPE!!! U WANT IT????? PLEASE TAKE THESES GOOFY THINGS!!
I appreciate your passion dude. I have completely changed the look of the bike since this video was made. It is way different now. Clint fabricates entire hotrods from scratch, so his work is never subpar.

Best sounding shadow on the internet
That's a damn beautiful bike.
I cut my factory exhaust on mine the same way then I welded 2 planted turnouts and it looks awesome but you have a great looking sounding bike
very nice looking AND sounding bike!
Makes battery access easier good job.
Love the new intake! I’ve thought about adding that to my ACE

Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤
Is the ACE hydraulic valves? (no adjustments needed etc).. Awesome bike
Do you know what size jets came in that kit by chance?
U could easily make that a 2 into 1 and add 10 more inches of pipe for the tip and it would look better fitted
Which lowering kit did you use?? Im trying to lower mine
Where did you get the seat I'm having such a hard time finding one for my 2003 ace
Damn that thing sounds fucking good
U should have some baffles it helps the power.
Clean bike brother. Your friend did a nice job on that exhaust.
Not really. He just chopped it.
Hey, nice bike. How did you lower the bike with the stock suspensions?
Thank you so much! I used a 2.5" lowering kit from a company called scootworks. It is a bolt on kit, and only runs like $120. Their website is scootworks.com
if i take off the rear struts will the bike lower itself too far?
How did you remove the famous whine sound?
When I bought the bike, it already had the exhaust baffles removed. It has always been so loud that I never really noticed the whining sound. Where does the sound originate from?
Mel Maxx i’m interested in this too!
What kind of jets do you have on it?
Hi, Fredrik. The pilot jets are a #50, and the mains are #130 and #135. I can't remember which cylinder is running the bigger jet though. Check out www.6sigmajetkit.com. How did u lower it
how fast will that thing go comfortably?
I can comfortably ride at 80 MPH. Anything more than that, and it is trying pretty hard. They are slow bikes. :-)

Hey bud I'd love to know yer carb setup so I can compare notes. I have the same bike. Mod intake and straights. I also went with the 6sigma jet kit.
I had to go back and look up what sizes I ran. I did a 132 on the rear cylinder, and a 130 on the front. I ran a 40 on both of the pilots. To each his own I guess. Ride safe bud!
Absolutely. You as well, man. :-)
faaar far to low idle .. love the rest :D
Shoulda just cut all the baffles out and kept the exhaust structure
I had that on there for a long time, but didn't like the look of it. I have since removed the exhaust that is shown in the video, and did a really cool side swept version.

How did you lower the rear ??
I purchased a 2.5" lowering kit from scootworks.com
It bolts right on, and saves you a ton of money over buying lowered shocks.
