As an Mechanical engineer and Automobile enthusiast, I am happy with my 2012 model Tata sumo gold Common rail 3.0 litre Dicor engine derived from safari.
Mostly on Nagpur to Pune highway trip. She can pulled upto 140kmph with full AC and 9 people inside.
For off road farming works she takes 10-20 bags of fertilizer and pesticides with 30 kilo each.
Power and performance outstanding. Pickup and ground clearance gives positive vibes while driving on rough patches.
Today's plastic toys cannot even compared with old real meral, Tata ka Loha......👍👍
No doubt that today's Safari has became the luxury in the segment but the love for the Legend Tata Safari Strome, the Raw power, the perfect SUV look was just so amazing that till today whenever a Safari Strome passes by I just look all the way back to see the legend SUV again.

Being a Safari storme owner . No one can how good it actually is in every aspect until you own it. I bought Safari dicor in 2011 and then bought storme in 2019 . It ain't just a car it's an emotion.

Go and see German / any europe or American, russian military trucks used during World War times and it still runs till date perfectly it has almost been more than 5 decades and they still run that is basic logic that we know that reliability and ruggedness is what need for them not functionality.
What are they going to do with useless features and functionality if the vehicles aren't reliable and can't cross any terrains?
The Safari that is given to the Army is not the same as the Civilian one. There's no logic in comparing the reliability of a Civilian and Military model
@@shraojitbardhan744 It's strange, but true. Army repair stations change all the vehicle parts after limited usage. Hummer is one of the least reliable, but it's used by the US Forces. Moreover, their maintenance is rigorous and don't let their vehicles breakdown.
@@ZLone93256 Ever checked GM Hummer? It's one of the least reliable SUVs on Earth. But, US Army trusts it. The point is, army follows frequent maintenance schedule even if the vehicle isn't used that much. They change all the moving parts and filters even after limited usage. I was surprised, but it's true. Reliability gets 2nd priority. I'm not saying that reliability is unimportant.

10 yrs ago my uncle bought the OG safari dicor for 10-12L. Now for 10L you get tv screens and electrical gimmicks attached to a swollen hatch. I drove that safari recently and man what a commanding driving position it has. I test drive the scorpio N it has a commanding driving position but it's not like that safari's 1st floor seating. Also please don't think that the army safari is of same spec as of the one sold in civilian markets. Everything in that is built to last and rugged

Tata please rebrand the current Safari as Harrier Plus and bring the safari with that same badass muscular design but with major tweaks in the same with addition of updated varicor engine which can easily give tough competition to Current model of Mahindra Scorpio.
Interestingly, the current Safari was going to be released as Gravitas (Extended Harrier), but Tata decided to bank upon the "Safari" name to increase sales. In their greed, I feel they ruined the legacy of the Safari name.

Had Tata Safari 3 Liter 4x4 and Safari Storm, nobody can beat Safari in quality and looks. It was a mini elephant and both were driven for 2 lakh kms each and I used it in mines and Granite quaries. Never failed me. Would have bought Safari again but the new Safari in not as good as the old ones. The road presence of Old Safari was unbeatable.

My uncle bought a brand new Storme on 2016, after 4months turbocharger failed for the first time. The dealership replaced it for no cost and the car was going good. But again on 2020 the turbocharger failed(it bursted out due to overheating ). So then he exchanged that with a Innova Crysta. Now he says that Safari was much more spacious and softer ride quality 😂

Safari storme was a reliable car I owned it and I can say with all my experience that this car have never troubled me . I have a emotion with this storme version and I can definitely say that scorpio mhawk stand no where in front of Safari . I had to sell it bcoz can’t run it more then 10 yrs in Delhi if I would have get a chance to run it again I will go for this car without second thought .

I bought 2010 safari and used it for 4yrs..and sold it.but its was great experience,wont feel like it in any other car
bro my ownership observations with a 2016 VX Safari Storme:
1) Turning radius better than ALL big size SUVs
2) 400NM of torque let's you zap almost immediately.
3) relatively low turbo lag compared to other SUVs with simmilar engine structures
4) more boot space. significantly more than even fortuner and endeavour.
5) wide spread tata service network.
6) a 6 speed MT transmission for superb highway cruising.
7) the most well adjusted suspensions for tarmac as well as off-road.
8) mine is 6 years old and still gives 14-15kmph on highways with 3 passengers 1 adult dog and a lot of luggage.
9) superb maneuverability (I live in the Himalayan region) I do mostly 40-50kmph easy to turn and stay in your lane and much easier to stop.
10) the varicor 400 engine's turbo hum is to die for.
11) low body roll even with just the driver
12) the ooof factor is just 😮💨
I am very very lucky to have this masterpiece in my garage🤍
I have trust on scorpio and xuv700. That's why I invested in Mahindra & Mahindra
So in conclusion, the only reason they beat Scorpio for military is because they bid a lower price...

To be honest in airforce Scorpio, Innova and ciaz , gypsy is most used. Safari is not there…
Tata should make their own engines
Then there will be no reliability issue
Dicor, Varicor, Revotron, CR4, Revotorq and Nano's 650 cc engine, etc are all made by TATA Motors. R&D was also done on their own. Even the 1998 Indica's 1.4L diesel engine was developed by TATA Motors.

The most important reason I think why Tata and Mahindra were chosen because Honda doesn’t have any SUV in India, Ford was going to leave India, Toyota Fortuner was being used by politicians and builders (brand image), Creta was getting over hyped. Cmon, India is capable of making decent cars.

PS. Finally it was just the cost which gave Safari the contract. Scorpio, Safari and few other were finalised but Tata's price was way low so the Army gave them the tender.

Bruhh this is one part of the story army denied for repeating orders of this version of the safari after the initial order of 1200 or so safaris were completed. Reson stated was poor maintenance by the parent company
