Gents that's exactly why I wouldn't hesitate to send my next resole to you. When unfamiliar with something of this nature I leave it to trusted craftsman. Same with my ice hockey goalie pads and gloves. I do minor and medium skill set repairs but the bigger jobs go to the guy who's fixed and restored stuff for players at every level...youth/amateur/college and pro level. Those boots look fantastic
I always thought that the decision half sole/full sole would be based on the condition the shoes/boots were in when the shoemaker got them. Never thought it might have anything to do with what type of shoe or boot it is! I've learned a hell of a lot watching you guys...
The condition of the shoes/boots can sometimes make a difference, but unless they’re in really bad shape, a half sole can be done. With boots, it’s definitely more of a factor.
When I wore them for work, I always had my Justin Ropers half soled. If I recall correctly, I could get 3 resoles done before needing to replace the boots. Nota bene: I very recently saw restoration videos on a vintage skiver & a 1908 Sears leather sewing machine, model #29-4. I immediately thought of your channel while watching those restorations.
Appreciate you thinking about us! 😉👍 Yeah, 3 resoles is typical if using the same welts. If the uppers are still in good shape, a cobbler can throw on new welts and you’ll be good to go for another few resoles.
Get some rubber sole boots, with a quality leather upper. I wear rubber sole cowboy boots in the rain all the time, no problem with traction if you get the right ones, basically like a hiking boot traction wise, but they look like cowboy boots. Yes it's not traditional but it looks much classier than anything else with similar traction and durability. Edit: I wear them in the snow too. And I have a traditional pair for when it's dry and sunny. That's what I would recommend.
Thank goodness, been waiting for a half sole video on cowboy boots from you guys. I get challenged with the seam, seems like it's difficult to keep it together when you stick down the rest of the sole. It wants to creep away and cause a slight crack..
I just had a pair of JW Boots half-soled at my local guy (old school, been in business for 40 years). The heel/midsoles are still in good shape, but I'm hard on the front sole. They came out great. When they need it again, I'll have everything done.
Not a country boy but, I do love me some fancy.....fancy Cali here....lol but not these boots. I'll just wear a paisley/floral shirt 😮😅....nice job gents.😎
In a pair of cowboy boots. Oh, give a home where the swimmin pools roam, where the money grows on trees and the girls just wanna be squeezed ... (Dave Dudley)
And why not a half-sole!?! Doing what's needed/fair & right, to maintain for the customer -- not as a time-saver for the guy(s) behind the counter. Trust is earned & learned -- on both sides ... Need more people like that today! : ) Be Safe
Wow amazing video guys 😍 Last week I bought my first pair of Doc's. The classic 1460. Any tips for easier break in? Also I was a bit disappointed because they're made in China. A friend's pair purchased about 10 years ago isn't made in China...
I have a Q for Trenton and Heath about how to care for cowboy boots made of Crazy Horse leather. I, am a green horn & bought a 2nd hand a pair of Tony Lama boots (in good shape, close to new) made of crazy horse leather. I liked the look of the leather because it was not to fancy and looked kinda rough and tough, not too fancy but still really cool to look at. From what I have gathered Crazy horse leather is made from full grain, veg tanned leather, the type that horse saddles, belts, some furniture is made of etc. The leather is a bit hard (kinda like a new RW iron ranger might be, so expect to do a lot of walking to break them in. My question is how do I care for these boots. They don't need boot polish as they seem perpetually kind of waxy and oily and I don't want to mess up the color. But I figure they must need Something, some kind of care. Can you guys tell me/us how to care for crazy horse leather boots and what your opinion is of them? Others might have similar questions as mine about them. Thank you very much for you time.
I got a pair of boots I want the soles replaced on them. They are Ostrich skin Justin crepe soles and I want to go with leather soles. The website either says sold out so how can I can I get this done? You do great work so I want it done right by sending it to you guys.
What are the options for going with a rubber sole on similar boots? I have a pair of square toe Justin boots that I would like to convert to more of a work boot and have thought it would be nice to have a christy sole or a lugged rubber sole on them.
I have a pair of double H western boots that I have worn for 3 years across 13 states as a contractor. My tastes have changed and I prefer lace ups for my ankles and knees. Is there ANY way to work a western boot into a square toe lace up. I love the look and have taken amazing care of them I just need some ankle support.
Great video, as usual. Thank you! Now, quick question that has been nagging me for a while: that "multi purpose machine" you always use (I don't know its name...), the part you use to cut the shape of the sole after sticking it (as you do in 7:18 in this video), do you ever need to sharpen that part, the one that cuts the soles? If yes, how do you do it?
Morning guys. It was interesting to see how the half sole process is done. Those were some fine looking boots. What brand were they ? BTW some nice new additions to the gents' flip flops this year and also classy they now have names .
I came across a traditionally made roper boot, but has neoprene for the midsole. Is this a cost saving method for boot construction or does it have a purpose, and is it better than all leather construction?
What insoles do you guys use? My boots are holding up fine for now. But the Ariat power support insoles are garbage. Why isn't it easier to find the insole that comes with my boot originally?
Honestly I was disappointed with y’all. I reached out to get some of my work boots restored and got told it couldn’t be done. Something about the boots not being Goodyear welted. I honestly would have spent the money on it whatever the cost because I knew at the end of the day I could have gotten them resoled if they got converted to Goodyear welt. I love y’all’s work and videos but I was truly disappointed that y’all didn’t even try to even work with me. So now I’m currently trying to learn the art of shoe repair.
I have a question unrelated to this video, but since this is your latest installment, I thought I'd ask it here. Quick rundown: Rockport nubuck chukkas with Gore-tex lining from the early 90's. Inexpensive, but important to me. Never had any care beyond wiping clean and applying silicone spray. (I know better now, but I didn't back then.) Not bad, but could use some TLC. Watched many vids. Confused. Which Saphir cleaner? ( I've come across two.) Will it work in spite of the silicone? If not, what alternative? Which brush/brushes? (Hog hair? Crepe? Both?) Do you recommend the spray Renovateur? Should I use Super Invulner, or would Terrago Nano be okay for a boot of "lesser quality"? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Guys. Thanks for your videos. I always look forward to your next. I appreciate you presenting the Ekster products. Picked up a wallet....perfect fit for me. Thanks for the discount.
Hey guys! After 4 years, I thought you had tackled everything! I imagine this video will give people pause next time they want to resole - full or half? Hmm. Either way, though, you guys make them look amazing! Take care.
I’ve always wondered what you squirt on the leather before you start cutting it and taking it off. Would you be able to answer that in the comment? Great video as always. Thank you.😊
I know these guys are good at what they do...but not wearing any type of glove while handling shoes, except to use conditioner. Really? Have you seen some people's feet? Trent chews his fingers as well? Ewww. I am sorry but I would have to have those soak in Formaldehyde for week and gloves.
G’day I have been watching you for a while now and I have been meaning to ask you about your equipment, I’ve noticed that some of the equipment you use is old how do you go about spare parts for them? Love the videos you do and find myself going over past videos anyway look after yourselves kind regards John.
I never thought to ask this. Do you have neck/back pain from looking down at the shoes for hours on end? Just pop a Tylenol? Same as all of use staring down at our phones?
Never seen such a response of the original leather and restoration to such a beautiful sheen and color
I pretty much only wear are cowboy boots. These are my favorite videos.
Glad you enjoy!
I enjoy watching any type of craftsmanship. Especially the lost art ones.
Gents that's exactly why I wouldn't hesitate to send my next resole to you. When unfamiliar with something of this nature I leave it to trusted craftsman. The sciver is slick as snot!
some really nice looking boots and I don't even wear them...great job guys
Thank you!
0:16, I thought you gonna say: well today we will do full sole and half sole on each side! 😂😂😂
😁
I love the cowboy boot restorations and have a pair to send you to rebuild.
Thanks for the interesting, mesmerizing videos .
Wish they still made that model! Thanks for sharing!
When I wore them for work, I always had my Justin Ropers half soled. If I recall correctly, I could get 3 resoles done before needing to replace the boots.

Your work is incredible.
Thanks so much! We appreciate you watching.
Awesome job gentlemen. Have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for a great video.
Thank you! Hope you have a great weekend as well.
The ADD in me was thinking "five-eighth soles" every time you guys mentioned half-soles! 🤣
Wish we had the weather here in England for cowboy boots, I'd be wearing them all the time!
Love your videos guys, great craftsmanship
Thanks for watching!

Return on the half sole! Great job as always, guys!!
Thank you!
Thank goodness, been waiting for a half sole video on cowboy boots from you guys. I get challenged with the seam, seems like it's difficult to keep it together when you stick down the rest of the sole. It wants to creep away and cause a slight crack..
Cool ornate boots. Great job of restoring them! I love cowboy boots and especially like the videos with them. All the best guys!
Glad you like them! We appreciate you watching.
Absolutely awesome job and like always y’all always do amazing work.
Great explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
New Boots 🤩🤗👍
Very entertaining. That last tack didn’t do what it was supposed to.
They look great God bless you guys!!✌️🇺🇲
After ungluing my butt from watching your last vlog i find myself having to have my pants fixed🤣🤣great job guys. Juhaptergee
😁😁

It sounded like a complicated repair and looked like it too but you guys got it done
Great video as always
Glad you enjoyed!
Not a country boy but, I do love me some fancy.....fancy Cali here....lol but not these boots. I'll just wear a paisley/floral shirt 😮😅....nice job gents.😎
You cats make great videos. I find them to be interesting and relaxing.
Simple and sweet. Great video😊
Glad you liked it!
You know I’m giving you guys a thumbs up. always do. 💪
Good looking boots.
Gorgeous!
Beautiful
Thanks!
In a pair of cowboy boots. Oh, give a home where the swimmin pools roam, where the money grows on trees and the girls just wanna be squeezed ... (Dave Dudley)
Good job like always, even if only halfway through ;)))
I didn't know Rhett and Link had real jobs. Nice work guys!
Nice,
Thank you. My cobbler has always done half soles on my shoes. Never understood why.
Always great work guys. By the way, grow the mustache back. 😂😂
You know, I’ve never a video on how they make a steel toe boot a size smaller.
Have you ever tried a "Goodyear welt" stitch on a pair of Ariat boots? Upgrade them so to speak. Local cobbler says it can't be done.
Hello and God bless, put oil paper or plastic funnel over it.
Be blessed.
Almost spit my cofee during the ad read thought you said you can still carry up to 12 condoms. I just skipped at the worst part😂(cards)
And why not a half-sole!?! Doing what's needed/fair & right, to maintain for the customer -- not as a time-saver for the guy(s) behind the counter. Trust is earned & learned -- on both sides ... Need more people like that today! : ) Be Safe
Who is faster? Sibling rivalry?
Wow amazing video guys 😍

Great video.
What is the product that was hand rubbed into the leather?
Looks good.

This video reminded me that I absolutely hate leather soled boots.
Can the dried glue be peeled off the pot? It would make a nice video short.
Great half sole job, but I can't imagine going out in public with those ridiculous boots on my feet. 😅
Didnt catch the Brand of those boots .
I got a pair of boots I want the soles replaced on them. They are Ostrich skin Justin crepe soles and I want to go with leather soles. The website either says sold out so how can I can I get this done? You do great work so I want it done right by sending it to you guys.

They were JB Dillon boots. Glad you noticed the new additions and names. 😉👍 Have a great weekend!
Heroes with a half sole ☺
😉👍
I came across a traditionally made roper boot, but has neoprene for the midsole. Is this a cost saving method for boot construction or does it have a purpose, and is it better than all leather construction?
I have gotten half soles before but they tuck it under the heal.
What insoles do you guys use? My boots are holding up fine for now. But the Ariat power support insoles are garbage. Why isn't it easier to find the insole that comes with my boot originally?

What would something like that cost? I've got a pair of boots I've been looking to get done
any problems ever centering that JR sole logo, or is it just second nature?
Always wondered, what are you wetting the sole with before you remove it?
I have a pair of boulet boots does anyone know if it’d be worth repairing them or not?
What brand are these boots ? They look like Corrals
Why use foam instead of cork on this sole …….?
I did a half sole on one pair but a full sole on another
I have a question unrelated to this video, but since this is your latest installment, I thought I'd ask it here. Quick rundown:

So if you have to replace the welt for the resole is it feasible to go with a single stitch for the new welt/sole?
Yes
Nail pattern and leather inlay needs improvement.
Cost wise what is the difference between a half and whole sole and should that even play into the equation?
Considerably cheaper for a half sole but I’d go with whatever is recommended/best for your shoes/boots at the time of the resole.
Nice job on ugly boots.
l agree! Kinda butt ugly dudeish pair of boots.
Nice job of repairing them though. @darrellhendrix5502
Do cowboy boots that are pegged have to be resoled with pegs or could I switch to just stitched?
Sorry if it’s a dumb question
You’d have to change the welts to 3/4 welts or 360 depending on boots
@@Breecebuilt ah, thanks. Idk I might like that look, as long as it doesn’t change the feel. They are Rios of Mercedes
About as clear as brown sauce …! 😂
Missed you guys last week. Agreed, nothing wrong with half soles when a solid repair is done.
Loving the new glue pot! That old one was getting to me.
Good job ;) I like manual work because I make various things from wood myself. Greetings from Poland from the city of Radomsko.
After a bunch of wear, will the foam start to squeak without a fabric backer?
If glued well, it shouldn’t.
Question: at 5:35 why the blue whatever that is instead of CORK?!? 🎉🎉🎉 Love your work!!! ❤❤❤❤ Discovered you two during the pandemic. 😊😊😊😊😊
Hey Guys. Thanks for your videos. I always look forward to your next.
I appreciate you presenting the Ekster products. Picked up a wallet....perfect fit for me. Thanks for the discount.
Learned something new today. Nice work fella’s. Always enjoy your videos on Saturday morning with a cup of coffee.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
What supplier do you get your top-lifts from? Direct from Vibram's B2B website, or another source?
Thanks!

You pair are artisans of the highest quality. Another informative and enjoyable video.
Hav sum lace boots need 1/2 soul...also where do u guys get ur hair done...
I never knew it was so intresting rebuilding boots. Thank you
Must be difficult walking in dirt and sand with leather soles.
Would It be ok on originally leather sole boots do a half sole using rubber sole or would It not stick as well as leather?
I learn from this channel but cringe at the same time. I am not a foot person. I will not touch anyone else's feet not to mention their footwear 🤣
you guys do it right..God Bless You all...
I have a pair of Ariat steel toe work boots I’d like to repair the sole on is it possible to send them to you guys
Nice!
