Well. You can mentor officers for 1 SP with 100% refund that also allows you to change their personality. No reason to leave a good butt behind.

True, though for any officers with a skill I don't want, it IS a waste. I don't generally like mentoring level 1-2 officers if I can help it; it's still a bit of a risk since you're not guaranteed to get any of the skills you need, especially at levels 2-3, and in the early game, the Angry Bees need all the story points we can get for recovering good ships and building in hull mods!
