BACH - Musical Offering BWV 1079 Ricercar a 3 - Thierry Mechler, organ

The Musical Offering BWV 1079 was written after the visit to Potsdam in May 1747, where King Frederick the Great received J.S. Bach. Flutist, the King proposed to the old Master a musical theme in C minor. Bach spontaneously improvised a complex three-part fugue on the harpsichord. The Ricercare a 3 is probably the reconstruction of this fabulous improvisation. On the organ, the Grand Jeu à la française recalls the royal overtures and allows to restore the wealth of invention of the skilful counterpoint.
