I never got that impression. They even acknowledge Jason leaving near the end of the video. Otherwise, we wouldn't have the Classic Line, "HE FOCKING LEFT THE BAND!!! PERIOD! EXCLAMATION POINT! Doesn't even sound like they thought it was their choice at all.
@@simplebutnotsolongname6642 Yeah but they're desperately trying to play it as though Jason never really wanted to leave and only did so as a power play, and that it's THEIR choice he isn't coming back. They literally say as much in the video, saying "he never really wanted to leave the band" and "he just did it to hurt us". Their egos won't let them accept that they drove away a great member with their ceaseless mistreatment, so they have to spin it to make it sound like he didn't leave out of his own choice. Good for Jason, I say. Being in Metallica sounds like hell, and every video I watch of these "therapy" sessions makes Lars and James seem worse and worse.
@@lbds954 I'd Disagree. Their comments and Reaction to what Jason had just said and what he'd been doing to the band up to this point are pretty reasonable. Jason, despite leaving of his own accord and seemingly resolute of his departure from the band, had problems with simply meeting or interacting with any of the members of the band trying to get in touch with him (leaving right after that Echo Brain gig before Lars and Kirk, and Bob could meet with him; Not Answering James' messages, etc); we see here that he also threw a fit over not being told about their secret Raiders Gig and mouthed off to one of their roadies (Toby) here in the video who said as much. So, he flakes on meeting/talking with them (presumably a bunch of times), but then he gets mad when he's not notified about what they were doing, when he left the band of his own choice in the first place, and therefore isn't obligated to know what's going on with them that has nothing to do with him? Come on. That doesn't sound like a guy who's fully moved on from the band. James and Bob Rock's comments are pretty spot on. Jason refused to do the therapy thing with them, and left the band during their most turbulent time yet. And like they said, He was so self-centred here about the whole thing, that he thought the band was too cool for therapy, and wouldn't hold on without his presence. He never had "Ceaseless" mistreatment. That was only ever true during his initial years with the band, and to a lesser extent, his final months with them; Everything else was Hunky Dory. Otherwise, why would he had still be in the band for no less than 15 years, much less a year? Metallica's far from being a hell hole it would seem. I mean, 2 of their Bassist had spent long careers with them, have been compensated Fairly and handsomely, and remains good friends with them to this day. And Lars and James in these Therapy sessions only seem "worse" because they're speaking their minds in trying to navigate their ordeals. And it's pretty much exclusive to this era of the band, not necessarily indicative of how they are now and as a whole. In fact, I'd say these clips add to their Journey of how they rose from the ashes of their hardships, not a mar on their public image.
the lowest point we know from metallica up until now . not to be proud of . and bob rock with his nonsense talk . that's bs :D . i mean the level of hypocrisy is off the chart especially when james talked with jason on the phone and their talk after that . after all it is good that he left despite the monetary loss . a really toxic work environment . rob got to metallica at right time and probably learned a lot from jason's time in the band
As a band, musical, they’ve not recovered from Jason leaving...he was the heartbeat & energy that drove them...without him..they’re a pretty average band by today’s standards...and I’ve been following them from the start....just my opinion.
Bob Rock did nothing other than make the music that THEY made sound good on CD. He didn’t make load and reload. Metallica did. I personally love both of those albums but stop blaming Bob Rock for that era of sound.
There are so many people out there who just don't understand what a producer actually does. They are there to get the best performance out a band and work with the engineer to get the mix sounding great. They don't tell the band what to write or how to write it. The final call ALWAYS comes down to the band themselves. Also, the black album was all written and demoed (even the ballady stuff) before Bob Rock even got near it, so he is absolutely not to blame. In fact, his most significant composition suggestion was to detune the guitars and lower the tempo for Sad But True, which made it HEAVIER. All Bob Rock was responsible for was making one of the best sounding Albums in Metal history.
@@Syklonus thats simply not true in every case. There are A LOT of producers who try to push bands in certain directions, usually on behalf of the label and because they get percentage points in the sales. I am not saying Bob Rock did that, but there are definitely producers out there who do not care about the band's identity. I worked with some of them myself.
@@Syklonus totally not true. Many producers actually suggest bands or artists what notes to sing or play, parts to omit or add, and so forth and so on. So they actually do have a part in actually ‘writing’ in a way. For example, Bob Rock was definitely responsible for a lot of vocal harmonies that ended up on the Black album and certain things like ‘yeahs’ and ‘ooohs’ or whatever throughout the album.
Always surprises me how all these adult men are so dysfunctional. These dramas are things most average people grow out of in their teenage years, but I guess the world of successful musicians delays all that and they carry on being teenagers in a cocoon of drama.
@Shallex Thanks for your explanation. I can't help but get the feeling that you are inferring more from my words than I actually said. I am sure that I would be no better than them in their circumstances. It's not a competition though. My intention is not to judge them as individuals, more considering how people in general are affected by positions of highly public success and how the lifestyle may take them away from maturing at a key stage in their life. I think you have to be someone very grounded at age 18 to not be somehow messed up psychologically by the rock star lifestyle, and I do get the impression, by the way they talk and act, that they lack some life skills that their lifestyle has deprived them of acquiring as teenagers.
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 uhh Metallica hired them. No one to blame but themselves. They could have let them go whenever they wanted. So must have been what they wanted. But sure keep preaching your narrative.
@@StephenRahrig why would they be obligated to tell him about a secret gig they were doing when he had left the band over a year ago at this point? It was extremely childish.
@@StephenRahrig Jason is saying he should have been told. He by definition feels they were obligated to tell him. Which of course they weren't. And to call one of metallica's roadies to voice his displeasure at this and not do it himself to the band directly, calling them fags also, is pretty childish. He had left the band over a year ago. I like jason and metallica are assholes a lot of the time but i doubt even jason thinks he behaved in a mature way here. You cant leave a band and then expect to be briefed on their plans. It's utterly ridiculous.
i'm not a fan of metallica, i know next to nothing about them, but i'm hooked on these videos of them arguing and complaining. kirk seems like the nicest one, james seems like an asshole, and lars seems okay considering how much shit talking i hear about him
Maybe it just me but it doesn't seem like Bob Rock never like Jason at all and when Jason left he thought it was his chance to be in the band. I mean after Saint Anger they didn't work with Bob anymore. But the other members of metallica made amends with Jason. It very telling they stop working with Bob but invite Jason on stage at the 30th anniversary show.
The guys are on good terms with Bob. They said it, he said it... they however got way too comfortable with him as a producer. After so many years together, he was more their friend than their producer and they relied way to much on his opinion. A producer is not supposed to be your friend. Because of this they had to go different ways.

Totally agreed, this is the deepest point of them, love them as musicians but they were being such assholes to Jason at that point.
As a band, musical, they’ve not recovered from Jason leaving...he was the heartbeat & energy that drove them...without him..they’re a pretty average band by today’s standards...and I’ve been following them from the start....just my opinion.
Please god don’t ever let me see Lars eating again
0:14 that sp00ky ringtone definitely needs wah
Those bill cosby sweaters
This part reminds of the Howard stern show .
It’s like , discussion, rehash , talk bout it , talk bout reaction .
Call on the phone
It's sad seeing them in denial throughout this whole video.
0:57 Lars ANGERY
Jason was out the band. Why would Metallica have to tell him about the raiders show?
Lars hasn't stopped eating for years
kirk never says anything negative dude is so postive
Always surprises me how all these adult men are so dysfunctional. These dramas are things most average people grow out of in their teenage years, but I guess the world of successful musicians delays all that and they carry on being teenagers in a cocoon of drama.
@Shallex Other can calling me narrow minded, do you have any argument or reasoning for it?
@@harrr53 *intention is not to judge them, judges them
@@tylurmackinnon6217 Again, not as individuals, but just as any human being would be in their situation.
They have too many unnecessary people, too deeply involved in their lives. GTFO.
This is Metallitap.
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 uhh Metallica hired them. No one to blame but themselves. They could have let them go whenever they wanted. So must have been what they wanted. But sure keep preaching your narrative.
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 racist piece of shit
It happens with every band.
Bob Rock so wanted to be the permanent bass player.
2:17 Who the *hell* holds a fork like that, while shoveling food into their mouth?? 🤨 Is he mentally 4 years old?
Why do these videos make me so hungry?
I almost forgot about those annoying ringtones thank you 2002 LOL!!!!!
Metallica get a lot of shit for this documentary and some rightfully so, but Jason was beyond childish here.
Paul Mallon
Seriously?? I would’ve felt the exact same way!! Maybe I’m childish???
@@StephenRahrig why would they be obligated to tell him about a secret gig they were doing when he had left the band over a year ago at this point? It was extremely childish.
Paul Mallon
Never said anything about an obligation.
Paul Mallon
Ok dude I’m not going to argue with you
"He really thought you guys were gonna fall apart"
Wellll...
Back when your had to dial your number to get to the voicemail.
Lars is always stuffing his face with food
It is awesome to see my guys work there shit out.
James facade cuz of the camera is just ridiculous, totaly different person otherwise.
He almost came clear on Joe Rogan Show.
İt's the post-rehab brainwashed shit. Been there.
1:16 What all of Reload with the exception of "Fuel" sounds like.
Reload was great
Jason made a huge mistake by leaving and he knows it to this day.
metals in my veins
0:14 I used to have this same ringtone on my phone!
i swear Lars is eating in every video) bottomless void
It is way of intentionally being distracted and not having his full focus on something. Its a defense mechanism.
That's why Robert still looks as the new one.
Jason isn't necessarily wrong ...
About what?
i'm not a fan of metallica, i know next to nothing about them, but i'm hooked on these videos of them arguing and complaining. kirk seems like the nicest one, james seems like an asshole, and lars seems okay considering how much shit talking i hear about him
yes it's like one of the most entertaining reality tv shows ever
0:34 Who invited Bishop, the artificial person?
Alissa Gail Bob was also invited to the 30th anniversary show
It was just you asshole
This is at least the second time I have seen and more importantly HEARD.....Lars eat like a neanderthal. I'm suprised he uses a fork and a bowl in this one.
Honesty 2:03 who holds a fork like that??! 🤦 That's how uncoordinated toddlers hold a fork!
im guessing these are videos inbetween jason and rob? Was Bob playing bass with them when they were trying to find a replacement
well they need view the scuzz meets newsted...
Why is Lars always eating? That's kinda annoying. xD
Trolling Face90 because he drinks like a fish and wants to stay healthy maybe
He FOOOKING left the band!
Quit a band and then cry when they don't inform you of their every move? Jason is totally in the wrong here. He thought they would beg him to stay but they called his bluff
Dude! Dethklok wasn't around yet, but Bob could have pulled a Murderface!
Jaymzofsteel bob is way more talented than murderface lol
The first 30secs of this is a really cool, laid back and genuine exchange between Bob, Kirk & James.... then Phil and Lars come into the picture lmao
