The show you were describing was called "The New Adventures Of Huck Finn'. It was ORIGINALLY aired as a prime-time show in the 1968-69 TV season on Sunday nights at 7:30 on NBC just before Disney's Wonderful World Of Color. It ran only one season, & went into syndication right after that, & was later part of a various Banana Splits syndication package. It was last ran as part of that on BOOMERANG back in the late 90's.
Hi Todd. Another fun fact. Lou Richards who voiced Galtar on Galtar And The Golden Lance was also the voice of Leader-1 on Challenge of the Gobots. Leader-1 was the leader of the Gaurdian Gobots.
Hey Todd. Fun Fact. Jerry Dexter who voiced Ted on Goober And The Ghost Chasers was also the voice of Alan Mayberry on Josie And The Pussycats. Alan Mayberry was Josie McCoy's boyfriend on Josie And The Pussycats.
I'm certainly a huge fan of your Hanna-Barbera DVD collection. If you don't mind I suggest that you pick up Birdman & The Galaxy Trio, Space Ghost & Dino Boy. You won't be disappointed with those DVD releases. I certainly like The Herculoids, Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles and even Moby Dick and Mighty Mightor. I'm a huge fan of Hanna-Barbera classic cartoons.
Thanks for the kind words and suggestions. This is an old video. I have recorded a more recent overview with more titles added. I have the two you suggested, but I can’t find Space Ghost. I might have to re-purchase it. It was one of the first sets I ever got.
Oh by the way Todd. Another fun Hanna-Barbera fact. Lou Richards was the voice of Galtar on Galtar And The Golden Lance plus Mary MacDonald Lewis was the voice of Princess Galeeta the same exact voice as Lady J on the original G.I. Joe A Real American Hero cartoon.
Another thing about Help! It's The Hair Bear Bunch, I recall my first time seeing that show was via the USA Network on their Cartoon Express in the mid-late 80s. It would get shown on their Sunday mornings and I think some during the week as well. In fact I believe USA Network had rights to a number of cartoons from the Hanna Barbera library which they would show on their Cartoon Express programming block. Then later on Cartoon Network got them all. Then once Cartoon Network made Boomerang a separate network rather than as a weekly programming block, most of the classic Hanna Barbera toons moved from Cartoon Network to Boomerang. Then Boomerang seemed to become a dumping ground for all the new cartoons Cartoon Network had either cancelled and were the original programming like Dexter's Laboratory and Johnny Bravo.
The Hair Bunch I believe you're right having a 70s vibe to it. Long before Cartoon Network had created their sister station:Boomerang. They kept old the classic Hanna Barbera shows on Cartoon Network. Sometimes back in the mid90s Cartoon Network would air stuff like the Hair Bear Bunch on Sunday mornings as part of a two hour programming block called Boomerang. Then they also once had a week long marathon of classic toons called The Best Of Boomerang. Then there was also Super Chunk which was 6 hour marathons of the same classic cartoon series. Then Saturday afternoons they also had,"Look What We Found," which was just a half hour's worth of either a short-lived and/or more obscure classic toon. Then I recall they also had some type of classic programming block in prime time, called Super 70s where they would show shows like,Help It's The Hair Bear Bunch, C.B. Bears(a cartoon version of Charlie's Angels and a role reversal). In C.B. Bears, Charlie was now a female voice heard over a C.B. radio and her angels were a trio of male bears that responded to it. It was a bit of Charlie's Angels mixed with the Hair Bear Bunch basically. Not very action-packed since it was supposed to be for younger kids. Then I think Josie and The Pussycats also was shown as part of the Super 70s after it had been shown on Sunday mornings as part of their Boomerang block. Also I think Casper the Friendly Ghost and The Space Angels was another one shown as part of the Super 70s prime time block.
Man, I really miss the old Saturday cartoons lineups. If they weren't out of my budget, I'd get them all. They may not be "great" animation, but they were always fun. You have a lot of great Saturday mornings ahead of you. Congrats!
We are still kids at heart Todd, use to luv watching "The Hair Bear Bunch" & "Shazzan" as a kid, they use to show them in the UK, another cool video Todd !! BIG THUMBS UP !!!!!!!!
I love the old cartoons. im sorry to say that today's kids will not know what good cartoon are. I allway's love Jonny Quest and Thundarr the Barbarian.
Looks like you got the 1980s series of Johnny Quest. I recall that the 80s version of Johnny Quest came on on Sunday mornings here as part of the Funtastic World Of Hanna Barbera which was a Syndicated show that was a two-hour block. Yogi's Treasure Hunt,Galtar and the Golden Lance and I think Paw Paws were the 4 shows that were featured originally.
Funny thing about that Seal named Scooby in that Moby Dick cartoon, it sounded just like Scooby Doo. lol Then I recall that other cartoon about the giant Genie named Shazaan. A two teens(brother and sister) named Chuck and Nancy had a flying camel named Kaboobie that would also make sounds like Scooby Doo. lol
Space Kidettes and Young Samson might've been mid60s? Not sure, but I recall both shows were featured on USA's Cartoon Express in the mid80s. Then I think Moby Dick and Mightor also were from the mid60s and had both gotten shown on USA Network's Cartoon Express in the mid80s before Cartoon Network and Boomerang got the rights.
Thanks for the shoutout! I really appreciate it. I always get excited to find good blutubers that I enjoy watching which actually isn't too many but it looks like I have a lot of videos of yours to catch up on! Seems like you buy as much or more than me which is rare haha!
Hey man long time viewer never posted before just wanted to give you a shoutout you're one of about 4 or 5 channels I regularly watch great stuff, huge horror fan myself, love your pickups and reviews!
I recall Goober and Ghost Chasers had only 4 of the Partridge Family kids as recurring characters. Keith wasn't there nor was the mom or Ruben. But recall there was also a Partridge Family 2200 A.D. cartoon which had most of the Partridge Family, but streamlined them once again. I think that other show actually had both Keith and Danny, but now lacked Laurie. It was similar to the Jetsons. Then I remember both cartoons were segments on a very early 80s syndicated show called Fred Flintstone and Friends. That show consisted of a bunch of different cartoons. The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show(which focused more on the teenage Pebbles Flintstone and Bamm-Bamm Rubble),The Partridge Family 2200 A.D., Yogi's Gang,The Flintstone Comedy Hour, Goober and the Ghost Chasers & Jeannie(the cartoon version of I Dream Of Jeannie).
Funky Fantom was actually my favorite Scooby Doo rip off, after Josie and the pussycats that is. Daws Butler voiced the Funky Fantom, he did it similar to the voice of Snaglepuss. I grew up in the 70s watching cartoons from the 60s and 70s. Had stopped watching cartoons in the 80s, so I had no idea until recent years that they made more series of shows like Jonny Quest and Superfriends. There are even further movies of the Flintstones and Jetsons I wasn't aware of and will probably get once I complete my collection of 60s and 70s stuff I grew up with.
Dammnnn bro you got some AWESOME cartoons there! Indeed some of them are ripoffs of Scooby-Doo, He-Man and so on! I need to check out those Scooby ripoffs because i never saw them because they where never broadcasted on Dutch television and HUGE thanks for the shoutout!
Hey Todd. D-Man 85 here. I have a RUclips channel. I only have 1 Hanna-Barbera DVD titled Birdman & The Galaxy Trio. I definitely need to pick up some more Hanna-Barbera DVD titles such as Clue Club, Goober And The Ghost Chasers, Butch Cassidy And The Sun Dance Kids, Josie And The Pussycats too. Do you have Josie And The Pussycats? PS. Moby Dick And The Mighty Mightor sounds awesome. So does The Herculoids.
I think the best place to order Hanna Barbera cartoons is from Amazon or Oldies.com sometimes there are really good sales there. But even eBay is a good place to find fun titles for a good price.
also stuff that's been on my wishlist for quite awhile. were these always DVD-R burn on demand releases? For some reason I remember a lot of them from before the whole burn on demand thing ever came about
That's a good question, and I'm not exactly sure. I have some other Hanna-Barbera sets such as Scooby Doo and Penelope Pitstop that were pressed, but it seems that maybe there wasn't enough of a market to mass produce these, I'm only guessing. I have watched Valley of the Dinosaurs, Thundarr the Barbarian, and Shazzan, and I think the quality is very good.
The New Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn. It was a show that was mainly animated, but the 3 regulars:Tom Sawyer,Huckleberry Finn,Becky Thatcher were live action. Not sure if TBS ever showed it uncut, but I recall in the late 70s or very early 80s TBS reran the show along with Shazaan. Then Cartoon Network and later Boomerang got Shazaan. Then Boomerang got the rights to The New Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, but the episodes seemed to be cut since they had no opening credits or opening theme song at all. I believe the Warner Archive boxed set is supposed to be uncut, but sadly don't own any of these Warner Archive cartoon boxed sets. I own a shitload of the Superfriends cartoons on DVD though. Here's a wikipedia for that Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn Animated/Live Action series: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Adventures_of_Huckleberry_Finn
It's out as a 3 disc M.O.D.(Manufactured On Demand) dvd set from Warner Archive Collection: www.amazon.com/Adventures-Huckleberry-Finn-Eddie-Hodges/dp/B01G9CFT4Y
great video. I liked the way the dvd sets popped in color. great lighting and that black and yellow blanket.
Thank you

I'll be interested in hearing about the quality and if the episodes are uncut. Boomerang aired only cut versions.
