Layperson and parent of ADHD/DMDD kid here. Lecture is very informative, even for the non-professional, but I have to make one remark: no one thinks a medication is going to "raise their kid" for them. That's the kind of condescending attitude that just adds to the stress and stigma of raising a child with a severe mental disorder. Hope Dr. Musil isn't walking into the office in this frame of mind. Otherwise, I suggest he experience raising a child who is this disruptive and dysregulated from toddlerhood with no respite and no meaningful support from community mental health services, and let's see how urbane he looks at his next lecture.

My thoughts exactly! My daughter is struggling and fighting this so hard right now. We have gone through medicine after medicine and to no avail. Nobody understands and the medical community has a lack of care. What has worked for you and yours? I have tried everything

@@JohnSullivan2003 where can I get this? My daughter was on hydroxizine but was falling asleep at school and missing. She is repeating the school year now unfortunately. I may have to give that a try thank you so much for your input

Wish he mentioned amantidine (dopamine agonist) which is great in addition trileptal. Also find him somewhat condescending. (Mom of dmdd kiddo and adhd kiddo and an autistic kiddo and an LMHC)

I responded to the other commenter as well but my child is in the same boat as yours and we were just put on amantadine. Since being on it she has lack of control over compulsions, dry mouth, and major heightened adhd symptoms.

@@hannahroberson8263 sorry it does thay for you. It decreased my guys adhd symptoms and helped with compulsions. Did you start very low dose? That is recommended to reduce side effects.

@@michellemurphy6144 yes we have started low dose, she was taking haloperidol so it’s combined with haloperidol she takes every 3 days. The haloperidol gave her really bad tremors and she was sleeping in class and generally everywhere. Maybe I need to give it more time? Idk it’s just gotten really bad

@@hannahroberson8263 she only takes the haliperadol every three days? That's odd unless she's discontinuing it? If she discontinuing, you may be seeing that effect. I would generally try an increase in amantidine after haliperadol is where it needs to be. One change at a time. Dr Fisher and Mathew protocol recommends trileptal with the amantidine. Honestly, it is a dopamine agonist. I do know a woman whose child needed less doping, not more. In that case, amantidine would have an opposite effect than expected.

@@michellemurphy6144 I apologize I didn’t word that very well. Yes they put her on the amantadine and instead of taking her off haloperidol completely I was told to give it to her every 3 days until they felt it was time to stop.
