Kate wrote this when she was 13 and recorded it when she was 16 under the wing of Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd in 1976. Talent doesn't begin to describe Kate Bush.
Oh yes. When you listen to the Alone At My Piano demos, it's crystal clear she reached a level of sophistication in her early teens few achieve throughout their whole careers spanning decades. ❤️
I usually don't like this type of voices, but she is the exception. Her mature artistry, her deep lyrics and her powerful approach in a unique, wonderful contrast with her "childlike" voice. She is phenomenal!
Kate Bush has been with me since I was 9 in 1979. She opened up a whole world of music, fantasy and imagination to me which finally brought me to singing, dancing, piano and the drums in my own little studio and as a second profession of mine - so being a one-woman-army artist. ;) ;) She was and still is ahead of her time. The song to me was always about a pretty sensual and new relationship to a sensitive man - an experienced man still capable of wonder and childlike behaviour. I can feel the emotional and delicate tension of the new and powerful feelings you might have meeting someone the first time - crossing the brink between fascination, sensuality and excitement. At least that's what she always triggered in me while listening to that particular song.
Love Kate Bush! Another unique singer is Elizabeth (Liz) Fraser. Would love to hear your reaction to something from her time with Cocteau Twins or her version of ”Song to the Siren” (This Mortal Coil) 👍🏻
Kate's first live shows in 35 years sold all 75,000 tickets in 15 minutes, some changing hands for as much as $2,000. Absolutely a one-of-a-kind woman, talent and spirit. Please do more.
I've always thought this song is about an invisible imaginary lover, just like the invisible friends most kids have in their childhood. Love so many songs by Kate, it is hard to pick one.
Unique is the word, there is no one like Kate. Huge talent, writer, performer, musician, dancer and such a pure voice. I loved that the album s always came with all the lyrics, even studying them, the meaning did not always become clear. To be so young and super intelligent.......a true legend. Thanks for sharing. ❤️🌹 Rose 🌹
Love you Georgina. And adore Kate Bush. Pleeeeassse critique Bjork. I feel that Kate and Bjork have alot in common. Unique and other worldly voices and performances.
The lyrics to "The Man With A Child In His Eyes" were quite scary to me at first. "I realize he's there when I turn the lights off and turn over" That was terrifying to me LOL I thought she was singing about a girl who got abused by an old man. So I searched up about it, and then found out that it was about her boyfriend. I just love everything about Kate, she's unique, she's beautiful, she's creative. Has a great range, amazing songwriting skills, and she's a nice human being. Her body of work is awesome
My heroine since I was 15 and awakened me (I am 56 now) kate was breathtakingly enchanting and unique x her music got me thru tough times as she speaks to the heart and spirit. Love her xxxx🎶🎹💚🌹
I’ve never heard her before! Just incredible!! From what I could gather, she is singing about a very rare trait-(at the risk of sounding sexist, especially in a man) innocence. Pure love and kindness. I’m blessed with a wonderful man a lot like that!
I love your comment. Yes, I agree with your assessment. I think Kate once said in an interview that she wrote the song with the idea in mind that certain men have a child-like quality about them, a certain innocence that they manage to maintain and keep with them in the face of a world that would just as easily stomp it out. To keep your inner child alive is not an easy feat. Will you be listening to more Kate? She is truly and amazing song writer and singer.
A good starting point to get more into her music is the album “The Whole Story”, a compilation album put out in 1986. This is where I started, I read a review saying how it was impossible to classify her work - and of course, being a young man at that time, I was also drawn in by her amazing beauty. After that, I started filling in her official albums, I have all she has released to date (10, I believe). There is no one like her, a truly gifted artist.
Kate Bush is amazing, an absolute genius. I listen to The Kick Inside every so often and it's still as mesmeric and awe-inspiring as the first time I heard it ♥️
I just finally listened to Kate Bush’s first seven albums in their entirety this year (still have a few to go) but she quickly became one of my favorites. So glad you did this video because more people today need to know about her and what an impact she had on modern music. I always interpreted this as her fantasizing about a romance with an older man, or perhaps a crush she had on a real older man who she felt understood her more than the boys her own age.
Thank you for your review - Kate Bush is a truly wonderful artist, like Peter Gabriel, or Roger Waters, or Joni Mitchell and the like, but with even more dimensions to her work. I remember when I was a kid, which is when she first started recording, she said in an interview on TV that she always had a very low singing voice in school and it meant that she either couldn't sing in the choir, or couldn't sing like everyone else, so she kept practising to sing high. I also saw another interview with her parents when she had just completed her first live tour - her father said that when she first started singing, she wasn't very good, but she worked at it. She would go to a shed at the bottom of the garden, where there was some kind of ancient beat-up keyboard and spend all her available time in there. Her brothers play various kinds of traditional Celtic instruments and contribute to her albums. She might have inherited her passion for dance from her mum, who was an Irish dancing champion. What did Kate do with the money from Wuthering Heights? She enrolled on a dance and mime course with Lindsay Kemp. The source of this song, The Man with the Child in His Eyes, was her crush on her school caretaker.
She is stunning. Please do wuthering heights too:) and I agree with other comments Tori Amos would be great too... Shall I also mention a few more names :Annie Lennox(beautiful contralto voice and exquisite human being), the diva herself :Dame Shirley Bassey. And for the fun why not make a video of a vocal impersonator like Christina Bianco. Thanks for your reviews always a pleasure :)
Kate Bush 🤩since more than 30 yeras i have her LPs, listen her over and over and over. And thats also some of my favourit Songs, also England my lionhesrt, kashka from Bagdad, babooshka 🙃
Kate Bush actually reminds me a lot of Tori Amos. Same quirkyness, even their voices are a bit similar. I’d definitely love to see a vocal battle on those two!
They're both unique because of their individual talents and creations, but I think KB opened the door for women like TA to have a shot in the industry.
Kate Bush conjures magic, she casts spells over the listener. I'm not a singer or musician, but I know that every cell in my body is smiling & vibrating when I hear her voice. Can somebody explain that to me because it is so rare. I've always loved "Under the Ivy" as well.
Thank you for this, I've been looking forward to it since you out her in your poll. Her voice is like a bell. And it's so versatile. I actually am more drawn to her older voice on aerial
That was a beautiful performance wauw , I miss that in the big singers of now , everything must be loud and as high as possible and all the riffing and stuff, I miss the 80s , greetings from Benjamin from Holland 👋
Even though I was a toddler when this song dropped, it's still a song that spoke to me as a boy growing up, her debut album The Kick Inside is a masterpiece IMO. I always thought this song was about an imaginary lover.
Whenever i go for a 1+ hour swim in the sea my head plays a beautiful kate bush playlist, thats how deep shes in my soul, swimming is meditation for me and i got the best playlist ❤️❤️
Talking about how she realized she sounded so pretty with the piercing high voice -- Running Up That Hill just a few years later really lands her in such a deeper, more grown up, grounded voice. Always wondered about that too. Such a journey she has from album to album in her career, clearly never wanting to repeat herself, always growing.
When she was young she thought of herself as a dancer who could write and play a bit. Not a singer!. This must qualify as one of the greatest misreadings of own abilities in history!. It's a looooong wait between albums but worth every second of it. And even loooooonger between live concerts!
I am so glad you were respectful about Kate her voice is so unique her voice is outstanding and like no other this was a great review i know i got angry at your enya video review but i do love her .. love Kate too a very big fan. can you review Martha wash voice of the weather girls she has one of the best voices iv ever heard .
what a lovely response. I agree its a terrific song and she is a fascinating singer. Ive been an official fan since 1985! I think i drove my family mad though at the time with oveplaying kb!
My interpretation of this song is a 13 year old Kate fantasising about her ideal man. She when alone with her thoughts is conjuring these scenarios from the mundane to the romantic about life with this man, imagining her insecurities, her worries for him and how she might look after him as he dose her and how life might be.
What a wonderful emotional voice, loved it when I was 14 and still love it 40 years later. A true artist, thank you for all your music Kate you are truly an example to younger artist
Georgina, you're amazing, it seems to me, that Kate is writing about the fact that some people manage to remain an innocent child somewhere even as they mature and become adults perhaps even a little cynical they still hold on to that inner child and she is able to see this reflected in this person's eyes. My grandfather was this way and he became my inspiration to 'Peter Pan' in that I hoped I would never grow up and I have in many ways succeeded. I think she is enamored with this man, but I am uncertain as to whether it is someone she actually knew or someone she met briefly but imagined what it would be like to know them. Dreams can be powerful things after all. Thanks for doing this Georgina, I had never heard this song and now I think it will haunt me.
I once left a comment on one of your videos (maybe a Madonna one?) that your reactions were a bit simplistic and non-analytical for a vocal coach (like, I know, who am I to talk?) but I take that back. This video led me towards different ways of considering Kate Bush's early voice and how she might've developed it :)
This has always been my favourite song of Kate Bush, too. To me it seems as if she woke up from a dream and wrote it down to remember, to remember what and how she felt in her dream. A dream about her "animus" to use this Jungian term.
This could be interpreted a number of different ways. I kind of think she's singing as a newborn baby, or just a young daughter, describing her father, who looks at her lovingly and sees his beautiful child. That's just me!
I’ve been a fan since 1979 and her first album. To me she’s the most talented song writer and singer ever. Only Liz Frazer can rival in her own way. If you want to listen to some of her vocal beauties, check The Dreaming album. It’s amazing.
That Xmas special performance is simply stunning. The album version is killer, but this...... Oh my! And what a good choice on your part! Kate Bush...... Wow! (excuse silly pun). Thank you. It was a pleasure to watch your analysis as well. All the best.
I think for me my favourite lyric is "These moments given are a gift from time" from Moments of Pleasure. It's a very deep and meaningful song. Certainly every lyric tells a story and she really does convey that in her performance. This version of The Man With the Child in his Eyes is far more personal and intimate than the studio version. There is a range her voice can cover that very few others can. Wuthering Heights, Sat In Your Lap, Army Dreamers, Big Sky, Cloudbusting, Constellation of the Heart all are very different in tone and equally incredible and of course The Nth Wave is a work of art.
I am 100% more compelled by female singers...I am obsessed with Kate Bush, I adore that fantastically talented woman!!!! I can listen to her all day on a continuous rotation...one if the BEST female vocalist/writer EVER!!!! She deserves WAY MORE ACCOLADES FOR HER SONG WRITING.
Kate was a prodigy. She has channelled the most beautiful and ethereal music from other realms~~ I've studied voice and would like to add that her sound is placed beautiful in the "front of the mask." Her voice has certainly lowered with age, which happens naturally. She was young here, and I think because her music was so theatrical she used her voice to create amazing sound imagery (example: "Get out of My House")
One of my favourite female artists👌 Would love you to do Annie Lennox, Sarah McLauchlin 🤞 A few more recent female singers you may enjoy reviewing and I’d love your opinion: Banks (full name Jillian Rose Banks), Chvrches lead singer Lauren Mayberry and the lead singer from London Grammar, Hannah Reid 👌🤞
That's very presumptuous of you. Maybe they're giving 'thumbs down' not to the song, but to the fact that this video is basically about a woman who hasn't sold one record telling us the obvious about a 40 year old song with which every Kate Bush fan is already extremely familiar. The song speaks for itself. We don't need the song interrupted every few seconds to make way for banal comments. Would you like it if you were watching a film and every few seconds it were paused so somebody could tell you to note that tracking shot, admire that jump cut, and so on and so forth? It's irritating. Play first--discuss later.
Kate wrote this when she was 13 and recorded it when she was 16 under the wing of Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd in 1976.
Talent doesn't begin to describe Kate Bush.
I want her to come back..But she doesn't like the cameras.
Oh yes. When you listen to the Alone At My Piano demos, it's crystal clear she reached a level of sophistication in her early teens few achieve throughout their whole careers spanning decades. ❤️
Such a unique artist in several respects, I love Kate !
It really doesn't
I thought she was 15 but won’t argue about the fact is how could a teenager write such beautiful meaningful words beautiful
I love Kate Bush, definitely unique
I know right٫she's so ethereal and sweet. :) To say the least about her.
She's just so lovely.
I usually don't like this type of voices, but she is the exception. Her mature artistry, her deep lyrics and her powerful approach in a unique, wonderful contrast with her "childlike" voice. She is phenomenal!
My favorite song of hers is Is This woman's work
Kate Bush has been with me since I was 9 in 1979. Love Kate Bush! Another unique singer is Elizabeth (Liz) Fraser. Would love to hear your reaction to something from her time with Cocteau Twins or her version of ”Song to the Siren” (This Mortal Coil) 👍🏻
Definesolitude yes! She’s my other choice to examine
I loooooove Elizabeth Fraser’s voice. I’d love to hear Georgina review her w the Cocteau Twins.❤️❤️
Elizabeth Fraser for sure anything from Heaven or Las Vegas
Yes! Please react to Cocteau Twins' Elizabeth Fraser singing: Persephone!!!!
I’m 19 and I grew up listening to Kate bush and I literally love her voice
God Yerin i wish the next generation would all grow up listening to her and tori amos
you have great taste!
Just beautiful. I’ve always always loved her all of my life.
I've been a fan of Kate Bush forever!! Thanks Georgina. Please do Alison Moyet? xxx
Good shout!! I'd be up for an Alison Moyet video!
Carol Coates I agree!!
I love Kate Bush !!! Love wuthering heights too and Running up that hill xx
Running up that hill is one of my all time favorites. Just awesome.
Same here. Two of my favorites. So glad I discovered her at the age of 64. Better late than never, right?
Those two plus This Woman's Work. Three of the best songs ever.
No hate but I personally don't like running up that hill
I don't believe you did it! THANK YOU SO MUCH. I love KB. She's the queen of falsetto!
Kate's first live shows in 35 years sold all 75,000 tickets in 15 minutes, some changing hands for as much as $2,000.
Absolutely a one-of-a-kind woman, talent and spirit.
Please do more.
YASSS A KATE BUSH REACTION!
(First Comment)
Kate bush forever 🥰🥰🥰
Wuthering heights is a fave,
So is babooshka which I ended up naming my dog 🥰🥰🥰
I've always thought this song is about an invisible imaginary lover, just like the invisible friends most kids have in their childhood. Love so many songs by Kate, it is hard to pick one.

Producer too 😉
I absolutely adore Kate Bush.
More of this please! 😍
She is so unique and she looks like it is the easiest thing ever to sing.
Wow, that took me back to my first heart break! Young love, etc, etc! Loved Kate Bush then, still love her! Thanks, Georgina xxx
Yay Kate finally...
Tori Amos next?
Great reaction! Kate is an amazing singer and of course also a great songwriter!
So glad you did Kate. I'm 53 tomoz and I've loved her since I was 16 she can do no wrong in my eyes. Pure perfection. Thankyou xx
The best songwriter of the UK in my opinion. The Hounds of Love album and The Dreaming are nothing short of masterpieces
I love those two albums! But I also love her trilogy of albums from the late 70s. They are such a MOOD
Love you Georgina. And adore Kate Bush. Pleeeeassse critique Bjork. I feel that Kate and Bjork have alot in common. Unique and other worldly voices and performances.
Thank you so much for reacting to Kate. IMO the most talented singer/songwriter ever.
The lyrics to "The Man With A Child In His Eyes" were quite scary to me at first.
"I realize he's there when I turn the lights off and turn over" That was terrifying to me LOL
I thought she was singing about a girl who got abused by an old man. So I searched up about it, and then found out that it was about her boyfriend.

She's actually singing the original demo version of the song, with the piano pauses and everything.
The Dreaming LP would have been a good review as its beautifully abstract
She makes me weep. She never fails to move me with her sensitivity, and that’s what separates a good singer/songwriter from a great one.
Kate Bush is on another level. She's so unique,, original and quirky and immensely talented.
Kate Bush is amazing, an absolute genius. I listen to The Kick Inside every so often and it's still as mesmeric and awe-inspiring as the first time I heard it ♥️

Oh, and first!
Except Kate was around 20 odd years before Tori :) So Tori sounds like Kate :)
More like the other way arround
They're both unique because of their individual talents and creations, but I think KB opened the door for women like TA to have a shot in the industry.
Kate Bush is a far superior unique talent, I like both of them, but Kate Bush is in a different realm to Tori
So much talent - Kate is unbelievably good. The production quality on her albums is perfection - she is a true genius. 💫
In her young teenage years Kate Bush run The Incredible String Band fan club and I think she must have learned some of her eccentricity from them.
Kate Bush conjures magic, she casts spells over the listener. I'm not a singer or musician, but I know that every cell in my body is smiling & vibrating when I hear her voice. Can somebody explain that to me because it is so rare. I've always loved "Under the Ivy" as well.
Kate Bush 👍🏻👍🏻 Her story telling is amazing . I like WOW . The man with the child in his eyes is a ghost .
Thank you for reviewing Kate Bush❤️
Thank you for this, I've been looking forward to it since you out her in your poll.
Her voice is like a bell. And it's so versatile. I actually am more drawn to her older voice on aerial
Kate bush yassss thank you. I saw her 2014 before the dawn concert and she was amazing
are you still walking on air like I am after ''before the dawn'' what a great nite
Me 2!!!!
I feel she inspired Tori Amos so heavily! Brilliant!!!
Indeed Tori said this in 2014 BBC documentary about Kate. I too adore Tori. They are very special artists. I've met Tori twice. Amazing woman.
Would love to see more of Kate Bush on your channel. Brilliant analysis of this amazing singer and her career. Thank you.
That was a beautiful performance wauw , I miss that in the big singers of now , everything must be loud and as high as possible and all the riffing and stuff, I miss the 80s , greetings from Benjamin from Holland 👋
Radio has such a lot to answer for. Google the loudness wars.
Even though I was a toddler when this song dropped, it's still a song that spoke to me as a boy growing up, her debut album The Kick Inside is a masterpiece IMO. I always thought this song was about an imaginary lover.
Army Dreamers and The Song Of Solomon are two of my favourite Kate Bush songs. She’s incredible
Song of Solomon is Epic😍
I’m glad you mentioned SOS
I love Kate Bush. I wonder what you’d make of Bjork. She also has such an unique sound.
Whenever i go for a 1+ hour swim in the sea my head plays a beautiful kate bush playlist, thats how deep shes in my soul, swimming is meditation for me and i got the best playlist ❤️❤️
she is always in head voice, she mixes a bit sometimes for the lower notes but she never goes full chest voice. I love the sound of her voice ❤️
Made my day, I voted so often for her, but she is not known to younger follower. So I lost hope ;)
And than my favourite song! Thank you :)
I know heaps of younger people that like kate bush and her music
Yes, I’m 15 and just discovered her a few months ago, already my favorite
young person here, she’s my all time favorite singer :)
steph KL I’d actually argue that Kate has a lot more staying power with young people (myself included) than many of her contemporaries
I'm 26 and love her.
Kate Bush is everything....
I have two Ladies,, end of the 70th i failed in love to KATE.(ps Wuthering heights) and today Floor Jansen..🤩🤩🤩
so glad more people are getting to know the brilliant kate 💖
When she was young she thought of herself as a dancer who could write and play a bit. Not a singer!. This must qualify as one of the greatest misreadings of own abilities in history!. It's a looooong wait between albums but worth every second of it. And even loooooonger between live concerts!
this is my favorite song ever! OMG Kate Bush. Goddess? Angel?
There's only one Miss Bush! ❤ She's definitely quirky, which only adds to her appeal.
Love Kate Bush, such a talented singer. Beautiful.
liked the video and subbed you sorry about the nasty comments on your enya video please forgive me .
Please Tori Amos! :S She is kinda Kate Bush influenced.
Björk next time😍
My interpretation of this song is a 13 year old Kate fantasising about her ideal man. She when alone with her thoughts is conjuring these scenarios from the mundane to the romantic about life with this man, imagining her insecurities, her worries for him and how she might look after him as he dose her and how life might be.
The very first record I bought was "wuthering heights" by Kate Bush, when I was 11.
KATE BUSH!!!!!! This pleased me so much, such a unique and awesome artist. Thank you
Quite simply the greatest female vocalist of all time.
That's a good idea!!! I would like to see those really good voices. Emotional, Powerfull. Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand...
Those chord sequences on piano too are a work of complete genius
Such an amazing Lady!! I love her and Suspended in Gaffa!!!! ❤️❤️ So inspiring!!!
This has always been my favourite song of Kate Bush, too.
To me it seems as if she woke up from a dream and wrote it down to remember, to remember what and how she felt in her dream. A dream about her "animus" to use this Jungian term.
This is my favourite Kate Bush song, thank you Georgina. Have you thought of reacting to one of our most underated performers , Joan Armitrading.
Thank you for this!! Love Kate Bush. Imagine Kate and Karen Carpenter harmonizing.😍😍😍
Only Liz Frazer can rival in her own way.

once in a generation artist with extreme talent boarding on genius
Owwww I love Kate. She's a godness! Your Voice is beautiful.
Thank U. :***
I think for me my favourite lyric is "These moments given are a gift from time" from Moments of Pleasure. It's a very deep and meaningful song. So happy you reacted to Kate Bush. She is amazing.
THE man with THE child in his eyes :)
Yay!! Thank you for sharing Kate! She is an international treasure and one more people need to know about! You just earned a sub! :)
More Kate Bush, please. ❤️

One of my favourite female artists👌
Would love you to do Annie Lennox, Sarah McLauchlin 🤞 A few more recent female singers you may enjoy reviewing and I’d love your opinion: Banks (full name Jillian Rose Banks), Chvrches lead singer Lauren Mayberry and the lead singer from London Grammar, Hannah Reid 👌🤞
Kate is a gift to this world.
Please do more Kate, love her
Oh, and whoever gave this a thumbs down is totally devoid of soul and musical understanding!
Agreed !
