I replaced my shocks with proline SC front shocks, replaced the axles with ar44 axles, replaced the driveshafts to get the ar44 axles to work, and lastly I replaced the links with axial links.
Those stock shocks do need a complete overhaul/rebuild. Mine run silky smooth now, no sticking anymore. Sanded/filed the piston (sharp edges), slightly widened the piston holes, polished the shaft (...), filed and polished the shaft outlet of the casing (that's where it actually gets stuck), greased the o-rings, refilled with fresh oil and voila, super smooth shocks.
Hahahahahaha!!!! You are killing me dude!!! Great to see you working on this rig. On my Trx4's i haven't done to much. Swapping a jeep body for my defender body made the biggest difference for stability. And bave a few wheel and tire setups that i swap.
Had the same problem with the schocks, refilled them with 400 gauge and bleeded them. Then I found on thingiverse other schockmounts for the rochobby. 3D printed them and elevated the rig with approx 1cm. Only happy times now when I'm running with the Willy's Jeep
My shocks stuck as well. I ended up removing the oil and two translucent bottom washers, plus moved the upper mounting point so they had no side strain on the pistons. I removed all preload on the offside shocks and added a 1/4" on the nearside to take up the weight of my military figure, making the jeep run level. The body weight stops most spring bounce and the suspension soaks up the bumps lovely at any speed. If it was a basher I'd use oil in the shocks but this heavy slow jeep doesn't need any IMO...👍
I put stock redact gen 8 wheels and tires on mine and it made it look a lot more cool, but my shocks are seized though and the big tires rub with out proper flex
Do you think it’s possibly to convert these to leaf springs. My buddy has one and it looks tuff to do since the front axels are right at the edge of the frame
I replaced the stock shocks with brand new pull-off shocks from a Traxxas TRX-4 I got from ebay. The only things I had to do to make them perform flawlessly on the 1/6 scale Jeep were: (1) swap the pivot balls from the OEM shocks to the Traxxas shocks; and (2) reduce the spring preload on the new shocks.
Thinkimg about swapping out the stock Gen 8 Axe shocks for a set of Proline Big bore 90mm. Was looking at the Pro Spec Crawler by Proline til i read a lot of reviews about leakage.
Sweet. I just finished some shocks for the axial II umg10, . Yesterday, in THE upcoming stay tuned in, for,, . 💯. . I have the Crawlmaster 540 5-slot 20t, in , on the hobbywing ESC 1080. 👊👍👍
Man you get at least 20 views a day from me (at very least) your awesome but honestly sometimes I get jealous I catch my girlfriend watching Holmes hobbies RUclips videos she likes you more than I do damn you John Holmes!
I have had bad luck with my incisions shocks... leakage and the like.. I've been using the proline scalers with far more success. I do like that, jeep tho'!
✳️Good day John ! 🙂 - Would you be so kind as to pull out your AXIAL TRAIL RANGER, when you get a chance !?? -I think it is.....ya, the green one with flames ! 😉 - I have never seen one 'til today, on-line, and I am 1-year into the crawler/scale segment. 🙂 I bought a SCX10 II Jeep Cherokee Kit for $299 from HOBBYTOWN USA back in April, this year.... great product & awesome quality, very durable as well !! So I find that I'm researching the AXIAL rigs from the prior 8 years or so, cuz of their simplicity & radical lines. (design stuff !) - There's something desirable about the angles & proportion of the TRAIL RANGER BODY, to me !! -😲(this is new to me) -Would you possibly do a refreshed- review ?? 🤔 -I think some people new to the RC crawler/trail truck segment would enjoy seeing it for their first time, like myself. -Just throwin' it out there ! 😉 -Thankyou John !! 😁 - Have a great weekend brother !🤘 - Portland, OR 🇺🇲
I had one of those hard body willy's I started to do a build on, on my other channel Rc Crawler Workbench. Also got videos using HH ESC'S, Motors, server's, and lockers. I'd appreciate any views and feedback.
120mm would have worked awesome you would have maintained ground clearance plus you would have had droop. Doesnt look like you can climb over a paper plate now brother. No disrespect just saying 👍
Hey elder brother i just want to request you for my birthday gift coming on february 25 my birthday and i just want to request you a sur ron electric dirt bike i like it so much brother thanks brother
I long for the kind of happiness i see in John's eyes when he's playing with his toys.. :)

What size axial links? I’m new to this
was rolling watching the rotor roll off the table, that look is the same on I have when stuff like that happens

This is a great series!!! Please keep improving this rig!! I’m getting one too because of you.
Another highly entertaining video.
Getting some Bob Ross vibes here😁
Just change the shock oil to 25w and u have excellent shocks, remove rear spacer.
Thanks for the tip!
Very nice toy sir wish have that in my room.

I want you to know I just watched SteveKnows play Quest games while being shocked, then came here to you installing shocks. I was like, "Awwwwwe".
Great video cheech
Cannot say that Vanquish shocks would be my first choice for using as replacement shocks. Takes some playing around with to get them right.
great
If I were to change out the stock 3 slot 35T motor for a HH 5 slot motor, which one would you recommend? How about a brushless system?

I just ordered this vehicle, I hope my shocks are better! If not I will have to order some new ones too.
Yes, the stock shocks are terrible. It's the first thing I changed the day I got mine. Also installed a stronger steering servo. Love it!
Such a fun channel, really dig the lighthearted vibes, like always 🤙 doesn’t everyone change stuff on their rigs? 👍💥💯🤘
Is this body able to be disassembled to paint a different exterior and interior? This rig looks fun!
The body is coming off
What mm shocks did you install on this? Mine sag they dont hold the body
Hi Bruce....
I was thinking about throwing portals on mine 🤔
that would be sweet

Office documentary at Holmes hobbies. I’d watch it.
If I sent you a 1220 brushless inboard motor that is 10300kv I have in my scx24 could you improve its design?
I have had bad luck with my incisions shocks... leakage and the like.. I've been using the proline scalers with far more success. I do like that, jeep tho'!
Trx-4 shocks are the best
I seriously need to know what your smoking 🤣 your allwyas nuts in your videos
Certain states carry it, if you are of age.
What about driveline up grades

Is this 100% waterproof from stock?
"..noothing on the front"..it is like the original :D
Carnitas excellent choice in tacos!!
how much for those shocks that dont work?
I also bought those shocks for my rig. Being a huge fan of Incision and Vanquish, i was a little disappointed because they leak. I hope yours don't.
Is this rc good for a beginner like me. 👍
Couldn’t you just ease up on the preload on the stock shocks? Wouldn’t that solve the problem?
Makes me want to break out my Wicked Willie
#UGADUGA
Nope. You’ll just leave it for added frustration lol👍🏽🐒🇺🇸
👀
I just got mine today and shock stick out of the box -.- took one apart and it looks like the rods are poorly made and scratch up.
You won’t take the body off.
No high fives. They haven’t been cool since Top Gun.
Round in the chamber, lmao!
I guessed right, and stock rigs, of course my rigs are "stock"........ish
You're definitely going to take the body off.

You would be surprised how few people watch tech videos without words.
