the issue is people think athletiscm is only running fast and jumping high, and talent is only physical abilities. jokic is a generational talent because no one of his size has ever had the basketball iq, and the hand eye coordination, and the balance, to do what hes done. i understand that hand eye coordination isnt the most interesting athletic trait, but if he didnt have it, hed be a sloppy passer.
I don't agree with the physical trait thing like they say it. They say generational can't be mimicked, but if that was true they'd be flat out unique. Generational would mean you can only expect to see a guy with these physical traits AND technical abilities every 15-25 years. It's more than just your body. Steph has a spacial awareness that you can't teach, he has a depth perception that you just can't find anywhere else in his sport and he has insane motor control skills to execute movements with robotic accuracy. You can't just go out and be like Steph, if you could, he wouldn't be the only one.
His shooting talent is a generational talent. Dell Curry teammates have said that, both Steph and Seth use to compete and beat them in 3 PT shootouts when they’d go to the games or practice facility too. It’s God given talent with HARD WORK.

“curry isnt generational” but produced some of the greatest offensive performances of my lifetime along with forcing opposing teams to either A. play like them or B. play better defense than them. and statistically neither of those things happened while curry dominated.
I swear I think Gil has a fundamental misunderstanding of the word ‘generational’ lmao. It seems like he think it has to do with your _genetics_ , your obvious god given talents that make you a specimen. Which, although Steph definitely has that, it’s not as obvious as it is with like MJ and Bron
My take on being a generational talent is like LOW was saying about these physical traits and how good you were because you could be an insane athlete but be a bum or an average player. Also note that when they mean "generational" they mean like a once-in-a-generation type of player. Other generations can have players of these archetypes as well.
Curry most definetly is a generational talent, the league literally changed offensivly because of steph curry, the 3point shot is regarded higher than its ever been, and people even saying the 3 point shot is a high percentage shot..even though i disagree because back in the day that was considered a risky low precentage shot because of difficulty to make 3's on a consistent basis
Based off Gil’s definition of generational talent magic Johnson isn’t one of them because Ben Simmons is literally the same player, tall point forward that’s a great passer and rebounder 😂
i think i understand what he means… from a prospect standpoint, steph wasn’t seen as a top pick… steph isn’t a freak athlete, not very strong, doesn’t have crazy vision , but he made it by being the greatest shooter of all time, which is a SKILL, not if he saying said steph isn’t SKILLED, then he’s just wrong
Steph has a unique talent in shooting. In any sport he does btw. thats why he is in the top 10 of all time. No one can compete with his ability to score long shots. he won every title you can get in the NBA, he got 4 rings and is in the 50-40-90 club and the only one who got 50-45-90 stats in a season. he won with and without KD, even in the seasons he lost his stats were crazy. Idk why many people say steph isn't a generational talent. He changed the whole sport. he opened the NBA for shorter player and his field awareness and vision went incredible over the years.
Steph became a generational talent with his style overall after his ankles got healthy and the team finally had enough support around him to let him cook. Otherwise he would have ended up like Trae Young.
No 😂, Steph without the system that won him chips still should he was different, look at the seasons after 2019 when klay and dray where injured and the group was gone ( 90% of the system ) he went on to drag his team to the play in and score his career high in points 😂
@@datbo1jay1 also the fact that Steph had to take a paycutt because his ankles were questionable removes him from the "generational talent" conversation entirely.

Wasn't gil the same person that said in the NBA you need star and generational talent in order to win, but then goes ahead and takes away credit from Pat. Riley, because he had generational talent and he won.
There thinking old school when only one or 2 generational talents were in the league at once. Now there are some many good players that it’s hard to separate generational to just really good player.
There’s generational and there’s transcendent. I think people are confusing the two. Generational is Wilt, Shaq, LeBron, Magic, Giannis, Wemby etc. Transcendent is Jordan, AI, Kobe, Curry etc
3:55 I don't accept excuses from either side. Either consider everything on the court or don't worry about it. Shaq didn't just decide to move the height slider all the way to the right, but he did decide to be big and not feel sorry about it. Are we talking about elementary school or top 1% athletes that are all genetically gifted?
Zion and Charles are the only other players who could move great while being fat, Shaq could do it at 300 lbs. Shaq wasnt just a bulldozer, he could move
As a community Can we just be honest and just say we don’t like players or just admit to our bias instead of just dancing around points making random points
I can't believe Gil didn't bring up Dame having ajacent type range as Curry in Curry's era or generation. Maybe I could agree then, but Curry is absolutely generational.
Shooting touch(Curry Jokic Luka) Quick refleciton(Dryamond...) Coordination(Curry Luka Jokic) Acceleration and Deceleration(Harden Luka) Pattern Reading (Magic Bird Lebron Jokic Kidd Nash) Contact absorbing(LBJ ) Hec even Curry's quick lauching shot is limited to his body. His lifting grade was like the 2nd on his team while being a skinny PG. The proportion of his arm might be perfect for long distance shots. Some attruibutes of talents are less visible... The success of these type of skilled players todays really shows that BBall talents take more than just physical traits.
The argument that Stephs shooting ability is just a skill and not also a talent makes no sense. Just like for piano, you can practice it all day for years. But I can guarantee you that you’ll never be as good as the best pianist in the world. Some people are just born gifted with these abilities. The same reason why you can shoot and train just as much as Steph curry. At the end of the day you won’t be a better shooter than him. Because he’s just that talented at shooting. Hell I’ve even had friends who’ve never picked up a basketball in their life. Yet they can shoot almost better than me lol. For some people that just comes natural to them. Whether it’s better finger dexterity, hand eye coordination, depth perception, or both.
How can Gil say that it has nothing to do with skill and then say Magic Johnson is generation because of his height + skill? He just says whatever confirms his bias no logic just feelings. As if we cant say the same exact thing about Jokic or Giannis.
I’m be honest people aren’t getting what Gilbert is saying yall taking it the wrong way cause he talking about about physical traits your not ever going to get another lebron or shaq
LOVE the Nellie reference! He was a mad scientist and so incredibly ahead of his time. People don't realize how much of modern basketball started with a Don Nelson hair brained scheme. Hack a shaq, Five out, stretch bigs, volume three point shooting. To me, his crowning achievement was having the vision to trade for the rights to draft Dirk Nowitzki and then beat him as an eighth seed. Nellie was damn near the only person who saw dirk as a STAR, where everyone else thought that at best he'd be a gadget player that doesn't contribute to winning. And he was the only coach around in my opinion that could've beaten THAT Dallas team with those warriors. As a bay area kid in the early 2000s, that "we believe" upset was as good as a championship to us until we got Steph
for me this debate essentially pointed out how much do we undervalue all this talent not related to physicality and that's the reason steph went 7th or luka went 3rd or guys like jokic and dreymond went in the second round, because for me guys like steve nash and cp3 are also generational talent but those talent arent as valued as a 6'9 a point guard level vision and a 43 inch vertical
Did anyone catch how when gill is describing all the other “generational talents” he’s describing what people can’t mimic but when he bring up Lebron he’s just saying “you can’t mimic Lebron” never goes in depth about what can’t people mimic about him
Honestly right now I’m trying to remember teams without generational talents and so far I can only think 04 pistons, 79 sonics, and 78 bullets. After that I don’t won’t to spend the energy nor do I think it really relates to today’s game.

Whenever I hear the word generational talent in relation to basketball the thing that comes to mind is a player with some sort of aspect of being a pioneer.
Gil went live this morning and clarified his comments. He explained that a generational player is defined solely on genetics and that it was better to be a “game changer” which Curry is. Generational players could end up being busts if they don’t have the work ethic to match Edit: by that definition…many championships have been won without “generational talents”
This podcast is entirely based on arguments over semantics. One person uses a common term or phrase in a strange way then has to redefine what he means. It's like manufactured misunderstanding to create an emotional reaction. They just need to clarify the terms before they discuss them to get deeper than explaining what they meant.
I think Gil’s Definition of “generational” is being physically gifted, not actually about talent but I could be wrong, that’s just what I gather from what he was saying.
Greatest 3pt shooter in the past 2 decades and arguably history, and the man that changed how the next generations of guards have shaped their game, isn’t to be considered generational talent? Gilbert Arenas makes me mad from the fact that his experience in the league has translated to some of the craziest takes I’ve ever heard
5:45 Jokic is a great player but he is no where near the talent Magic was and could have been is he had better of court mentoring. I’m sorry just if you compare the highlights/ can’t really compare stats to era to much because of the coaching and team fit. But man it’s just different bro really something general, his nickname is Magic after all. But all respect to jokic , there have been a lot of people 6-10 to 7-1 in the past 35 years but we only hold a few to high regard.
They also call a person a generational talent based on an inch of difference from the next person in height or weight. They should clarify what talent is. Physical attributes are not talents. Talent is a mixture of skill and ability, in my understanding.
Not a generational talent? Brother centers and bigmans are now shooting threes and making half court shots, shit like that will get you benched immediately in the early 2000’s. Curry showed the lethality and importance of the 3 point line if you know how to shoot
Ik Curry was a freak of nature when in 2019 he announced bro had KC (an eye condition). The best shooter in the world for 3 years at that point wasn’t seeing properly 🤦🏾♂️
I think they got it wrong specifically on Kobe, while physically he was not a generational talent his drive and determination was a generational talent. Because MJ is a generational talent, you can't mimic Jordan. Millions of people saw MJ play the game, millions of kids tried to be "like mike", only 1 ever succeeded at the highest level of the sport, that was Kobe. Kobe's drive and determination allowed him to mimic and even improve on a generational talent when that should have been impossible. Nobody had a work ethic that could rival Kobe's. Steph I'm on the fence about because I see a lot of people in the league that are pretty dam close, Dame is the guy that immediately comes to mind, Trae Young can shoot from the logo, Kyrie has the same handles and shoots pretty good. I wouldn't say there is a player that has the whole package the way that Steph does but at the same time I don't feel like he has really separated himself from everybody else at least today. In his prime when he took that shot against OKC that was a separation for sure but it kind of feels like the rest of the league is catching up, nearly everybody in the league can shoot 3's now and the elite players can all shoot from the logo with accuracy. That being said a lot of these players that are chucking 3's are still young, we'll see if they can continue to be dependable three point shooters as time goes on. If I was going to call Steph a generational talent then much like Kobe I think his greatest talent is simply his drive and motivation to keep working on his game harder than anybody else does. If Steph continues to be insanely productive as he goes into his late 30's playing the game that will be a great indicator of that work ethic which is something you just can't teach.
The idea is that if Curry practiced many other skills other than threes, it would dilute his 3-point abilities and practice. But because Curry just primarily practices threes, that ability isnt diluted like other players
eye and hand cordination / spacial awarness is also a talent, ofcourse you can work on it and put in the hours but that wont make u better than kyrie at handling. somethings we just born with.
So if Steph Curry is not generational talent because you can mimic him then MJ is not generational talent because Kobe mimicked him?
By Gil’s logic yea but then he goes on to say Mj is generational

Gotta add Shaq. For different reasons though.

the issue is people think athletiscm is only running fast and jumping high, and talent is only physical abilities. jokic is a generational talent because no one of his size has ever had the basketball iq, and the hand eye coordination, and the balance, to do what hes done. i understand that hand eye coordination isnt the most interesting athletic trait, but if he didnt have it, hed be a sloppy passer.
Bingo
I don't agree with the physical trait thing like they say it. They say generational can't be mimicked, but if that was true they'd be flat out unique.
Generational would mean you can only expect to see a guy with these physical traits AND technical abilities every 15-25 years.
It's more than just your body. Steph has a spacial awareness that you can't teach, he has a depth perception that you just can't find anywhere else in his sport and he has insane motor control skills to execute movements with robotic accuracy.
You can't just go out and be like Steph, if you could, he wouldn't be the only one.

Why do people listen to Gilbert any more bro almost every week he says something dumb😂
Dude said Luka is 6’10🤣🤣 fuck Gil bro
was eye to eye with 7ft KAT
I swear I think Gil has a fundamental misunderstanding of the word ‘generational’ lmao. It seems like he think it has to do with your _genetics_ , your obvious god given talents that make you a specimen. Which, although Steph definitely has that, it’s not as obvious as it is with like MJ and Bron
Low got Gilbert looking crazy with these takes back to back episodes.
wtf has gilbert ever done btw gilbert has to be the corniest name ever lol
yea that childhood was rough
His Cuban name is Gilberto
He was like…The best scorer behind Kobe in his era. He was quite literally unguardable but he just didn’t really achieve anything
Also a clutch time player pretty much
Overall nothing really
This is why everyone doesn't need a podcast🤦🏽♀️
Based off Gil’s definition of generational talent magic Johnson isn’t one of them because Ben Simmons is literally the same player, tall point forward that’s a great passer and rebounder 😂
By definition the word talent is used to describe SKILL not any physical attribute that contributes to SKILL
i think i understand what he means… from a prospect standpoint, steph wasn’t seen as a top pick… steph isn’t a freak athlete, not very strong, doesn’t have crazy vision , but he made it by being the greatest shooter of all time, which is a SKILL, not if he saying said steph isn’t SKILLED, then he’s just wrong
Gil a Wizards legend and knows more about the game than me. But when he said Joker was the worst MVP. I knew he was a generational hater.
Rename this channel to “I Disagree with No Chill Gil”
Steph literally defined an era’s style of play. He’s GENERATIONAL ALREADY
@@datbo1jay1 he missed the playoffs
@@datbo1jay1 also the fact that Steph had to take a paycutt because his ankles were questionable removes him from the "generational talent" conversation entirely.

Wasn't gil the same person that said in the NBA you need star and generational talent in order to win, but then goes ahead and takes away credit from Pat. Riley, because he had generational talent and he won.
If you are using the term "generational talent" shouldnt there only be one player per generation?
Lmfao he’s definitely using the wrong word… he needs to change this label
There thinking old school when only one or 2 generational talents were in the league at once. Now there are some many good players that it’s hard to separate generational to just really good player.
The word mimic has been said way to much 😂
There’s generational and there’s transcendent. I think people are confusing the two. Generational is Wilt, Shaq, LeBron, Magic, Giannis, Wemby etc. Transcendent is Jordan, AI, Kobe, Curry etc

I feel Gilbert Arenas is just putting the most crazy takes out there because he knows people will listen to him and react accordingly.
Your face in the thumbnail is hilarious
3:55 I don't accept excuses from either side. Either consider everything on the court or don't worry about it. Shaq didn't just decide to move the height slider all the way to the right, but he did decide to be big and not feel sorry about it. Are we talking about elementary school or top 1% athletes that are all genetically gifted?
Zion and Charles are the only other players who could move great while being fat, Shaq could do it at 300 lbs. Shaq wasnt just a bulldozer, he could move
As a community Can we just be honest and just say we don’t like players or just admit to our bias instead of just dancing around points making random points
By Gilbert's dumb logic, Michael Jordan & Kobe Bryant are not "generational talents"🤡😂

I can't believe Gil didn't bring up Dame having ajacent type range as Curry in Curry's era or generation. Maybe I could agree then, but Curry is absolutely generational.
At this point, Steph Curry is just nother Reggie Miller with four rings
Reggie never could create his shot off the dribble. Curry hitting 30+ bombs while getting double teams
Reggie couldn't dribble like Steph can
Delusional
Shooting touch(Curry Jokic Luka)
Quick refleciton(Dryamond...)
Coordination(Curry Luka Jokic)
Acceleration and Deceleration(Harden Luka)
Pattern Reading (Magic Bird Lebron Jokic Kidd Nash)
Contact absorbing(LBJ )
Hec even Curry's quick lauching shot is limited to his body.
His lifting grade was like the 2nd on his team while being a skinny PG.
The proportion of his arm might be perfect for long distance shots.
Some attruibutes of talents are less visible...
The success of these type of skilled players todays really shows that
BBall talents take more than just physical traits.
I think the “generational” talent argument works better for football than basketball.
for me this debate essentially pointed out how much do we undervalue all this talent not related to physicality and that's the reason steph went 7th or luka went 3rd or guys like jokic and dreymond went in the second round, because for me guys like steve nash and cp3 are also generational talent but those talent arent as valued as a 6'9 a point guard level vision and a 43 inch vertical
Did anyone catch how when gill is describing all the other “generational talents” he’s describing what people can’t mimic but when he bring up
Lebron he’s just saying “you can’t mimic Lebron” never goes in depth about what can’t people mimic about him
Honestly right now I’m trying to remember teams without generational talents and so far I can only think 04 pistons, 79 sonics, and 78 bullets. After that I don’t won’t to spend the energy nor do I think it really relates to today’s game.
I got a push notification on my phone with the title to this video, and for a second I thought my dude lost his damn mind.
Sure everyone can mimic steph... but who averaging around the same percentages career wise, while also getting around the same amount of attempts???
I'm getting blocked 100/100 times if I try any of the shots Steph tries in the NBA.
and who the fuck hits 50-45-90 too atm? the 50-40-90 club has only 9? members. but sure everyone can mimic stephs the incredible shooting skill. but why they just don't do it already?
You gotta listen to the whole convo. Gil makes sense. He's talking about physical gifts
their QB one was crazy. Vick, Lamar, and RGIII made sense but Cam is different talent based on physicals. The only one that compares in terms of height, weight and potential ability is Anthony Richardson

Gil: You can't mimic physical traits
YO TACO FALL IS GENERATIONAL TALENT LETS GOOO
I’m actually surprised he said Jokic was a great basketball player. It’s rare he even gives a compliment to him.
Gil’s best argument woulda been dame but he couldn’t even think of that
The clip started with him saying D Wade was a generational talent but then goes on to say Steph isn't. The consistency in the statement is weird.
Gil went live this morning and clarified his comments. He explained that a generational player is defined solely on genetics and that it was better to be a “game changer” which Curry is. Generational players could end up being busts if they don’t have the work ethic to match
Edit: by that definition…many championships have been won without “generational talents”
nobody ever called giannis a generation player until years later..
Jerry rice not being a generational talent despite leading the mfl in every major receiving category by a wide margin is a crazy take.
Gil says u can’t mimic a 6’9 pg that can pass like we don’t have Luka lebron and even rookie Ben Simmons.
Curry’s stamina is not being talked about, an off the ball threat at all times.
There's Lebron mimicking Magic Johnson.... there's Kobe mimicking Jordan.... NOW WHO THE FUCK IS MIMICKING CURRY??? Go ahead, I'll wait.....
This podcast is entirely based on arguments over semantics. One person uses a common term or phrase in a strange way then has to redefine what he means. It's like manufactured misunderstanding to create an emotional reaction. They just need to clarify the terms before they discuss them to get deeper than explaining what they meant.
Also, Gil: name 5 players who changed the entire makeup of the league more than Steph.
Gil ever respond to Low the way he went at Dreamerspro?
I think Gil’s Definition of “generational” is being physically gifted, not actually about talent but I could be wrong, that’s just what I gather from what he was saying.
My man’s third channel has basically become a Gil reaction channel 😂
We need a compilation of clips of Gilbert and his show contradicting their own statements.
If curry is not generational then where are alll the traditional bigs are because curry killed that position
Curry showed the lethality and importance of the 3 point line if you know how to shoot
curry is the reason too why they think about 4-points-line, because he always shots from way behind this 3 point line
90/50/40 club member. Anybody can shoot 3s but at his efficiency is wild
You have no clue what you are talking about. 😂 stop talking dude. Curry practices far more than just 3s😂
eye and hand cordination / spacial awarness is also a talent, ofcourse you can work on it and put in the hours but that wont make u better than kyrie at handling.
somethings we just born with.
