I am happy you can get out there on a bike! Those of us with functioning legs need to appreciate what it's like not to have them. Seeing Martyn on his bike makes me cry, I'd probably cry if I saw you on a bike too.
You guys at GMBN are... well the best kind of people this world has and I just was so blown away by the way you took care of and made sure Martyn had the time of his life at Whistler!!!!! I am just getting into mountain biking and your channel has been an absolute wealth of knowledge and to now know what great people you guys are... you inspire me to not only ride but to be a better person while on and off the trail!!!! Keep up the great work and thanks for the awesome content!!!!!!!
This made me tear up. The excitement and earnestness in Martyn's voice was like a kid on Christmas morning, so genuine. This is what friendship is all about. Love you guys! Ride On!
Cudnt agree more. Real as it gets and an absolute tear jerker and amazing story about what real friends are and what it means to not give up on what you love doing. Beautiful.
One of the best, interesting, exciting, emotional videos I’ve ever seen if not the best. Great to see Martin in action, and the genuine affection and friendship in the team. Loved it!
I'm a 40 year old grown ass man, and I am not ashamed to admit that this video got me a little misty about the eyes. What an inspiration you are, Martyn. We the GMBN extended family are all so happy for you. Bravo. Truly, bravo.
I'm 43 years old and I almost cried with emotion when I saw this video! Martyn if you do not have a brother, Blake is surely the closest thing you'll ever get. You are two soul mates.
And now here I am in 2021, 8am, sitting in front of my screen with tears in my eyes because I'm so happy for Martyn to be able to do that... god damn, who is cutting onions here!
I just wanna say thank you, being in a wheelchair myself still adjusting to it and hating every minute of it because I struggle with it getting up curbs etc and hills the burning arms, seeing you do this has made me realise I need to push myself more to get some independence back. I am thankful of my partner who is ever so supporting.
Ketsurui199, You will totally get there give yourself the time to learn what you need to. I am going to assume you rode at some point, treat your wheelchair skills the same way you would learning something new on a bike. I bet you could make some cool videos about it as well
I was thinking about cycling home to my parents' tomorrow, which is about 50km away from my home. I had doubts because I'll be bringing my laptop and stuff and how it will be a long hard ride. And then I saw this video and was reminded of the inspiration that is Martyn Ashton. I'm gonna do it. Thank you, Martyn. Keep up the good work!
I cried, smiled, and laughed while watching this. It took me about 90 min to watch this 20 min video due to replaying sections. Thank you to all of those involved in putting this together to share with us on tube. The hugs were awesome to watch, the friendship was amazing to see, and Martyn's genuine enthusiasm and playfulness infectious!!! I am grateful for Martyn to have such good mates, and amazing spirit.
#GMBN I have never cried (Blake and Doody's smiles at Martyn's riding), punched the air & whooped (when Martyn hits that drop), and laughed (Martyn holding onto his wheelchair while Blake lifts him) so much at a video. This video is all that MTB is about! Love it!
As a person with the use of both legs I only hope that one day I will be half the man that you are on my bike Martyn.... Please keep up the great work... Yo are truly an inspiration to us all!!!
I’ve watched a lot of videos on MTBs, gmbn videos included. One of my favourites was when you speak on theTED stage and now, this. (I wonder why I wasn’t able to watch this for 2 years) I don’t even know you personally, but my eyes were teary and feel so proud of you and the whole GMBN team with what you’ve accomplished 👏🏻
Do RUclips have an award for video of the year? Because if they do, I want to nominate this one. I so get what Blake meant when he said it was like his child going out there into the World on his own. I have 4 kids and although they're a hell of a lot younger than you Martyn (sorry dude, they just are) I still felt some of what Blake was talking about. I really wanted you to take care out there and get down the trail safely. Enormous respect to you for doing this, mostly to you Martin of course but also to the back up team for being there for you. Seeing Blake run back to stop you when you ran off the course was really heart warming. It was scary enough seeing you going down that escalator backwards in a wheelchair but down Whistler? Wow. I can't imagine how much harder it must be with your centre of gravity so high compared to someone who can stand on the pedals for the tricky stuff. Words can't describe how amazing that was. Damn you guys, you've made me more emotional than any video here has ever done. I still love you all though.
Martyn looked so happy. So inspiring to see him ride the way he did. You really are one of the best riders to overcome such an injury and still be able to race one of the biggest races out there on trails I wouldn’t be able to ride myself. Thank you for this great video GMBN.
I'm a beginner one handed rider, an I'm not gonna lie, this had me tearin' up a bit when Martyn was killin' it. Good work, brother! I love this channel, you guys are hilarious!
This is simply the best video on RUclips. I've said it a thousand times before, and I'll say it a thousand times again "Martyn, you are an absolute legend." 🤘😀🤘
Martyn don't ever feel bad for needing help from your friends, since the beginning you have been an inspiration to the mtbkers all around the world, me included, now having the chance to give a hand to a pro like you must be quite a proud! Keep shredding Man and huge hug to you and the GMBN team! Damn I love this channel
WOW!!! Martyn, you were an inspiration to me back in the 90s, I followed you in MBR, took tips and advice from you, watched the videos, learnt from you, it broke my heart to see you disabled, but watching this video has inspired me once again, that anything is possible. I admire your courage, strength and determination to continue through adversity. You're a true athlete and inspiration to many. Ride hard, ride long. Much love....xxx
I never comment, but this was amazing! .. and the best part - friends that are just your heart and it is so aparent in this video... Very touching!!! Blake and Doddy, and rest of the team - high five 🖐 And, off course, Martyn, besides the great friends you got, you’re one talented rider! Cheers... 🍺🍺🍺
Do you know what i like about these videos. How close these guys are too each other. Blake and doddy are just as excited in there faces for martyn as martyn was. Its so nice to see. Nothing like a good group of mates to make the day and make you feel alive. Great video gents
Martyn watching you ride is an insperation to all. I am in the RAF and have seen a lot of my mates come back from ops minus limbs etc. and they have died in the dirt so they say, you, an absoloute legend who has got back up from a life changing injury and smashed it! so what you need help, its always going to be help from friends who matter, you are a legend and such an insperation to all.
I remember seeing you from way back in the day, but after many years away from mountain biking I've only just found out about your accident after recently rediscovering my passion for the sport. I have a disabled partner so know how difficult things can be at times, but seeing your sheer grit, determination and refusal to let your disability prevent you from doing what you love has served to fuel my own passion for mountain biking. You sir are a great ambassador for the sport and the disabled community. I doff my hat to you.
I remembered meeting Martyn Ashton at the Animal BMX jam held at VivoCity in Singapore, in the year 2007. He was one of two guys (the other dude was Cowan who was riding for Kona back then) to put on an amazing show for the spectators (Martyn held the record for world’s highest side bunnyhop back then). Fast forward till today, this video made me smile and tear up tears of joy, the friends Martyn have by his side to support him through the setbacks and obstacles (literally and figuratively), the fighting spirit, passion and camaraderie he still have when it comes to riding, the touching message close to the end of this video all made me realise that the biking community is unlike any other community anyone has seen. Thank you, GMBN, for showing all of us the proof of unity all in one video.
The crew at GMBN is fantastic. It's great to see everyone come together to make this happen and it's great to see Martyn back on the bike! Lots to be proud of at GMBN. Keep it up Martyn!!!!!
I hate it when my allergies act up and make eyes teary. :-) Not only inspirational, phenomenal, awesome to see Martyn but the video quality on this video is the best to date. Quality, content, etc. all great. Martyn - Not only are you humble and willing to show the great stuff but also the stuff that didn't go quite perfectly. but you are an athlete and you should never think differently., Watching you do some whips and jumps was just, well, Wow!. I am glad to have found GMBN and glad to know you are such an integral part of it. Thank you all for the inspiration and great quality content you deliver literally each and every day.
Just subscribed recently and after seeing this, I have a massive amount of respect and admiration for the entire GMBN crew. The spirit and camaraderie not to mention determination on display is so inspiring. I’ll be watching this again with my soon later today.
That is exactly what I was wondering. Anyone who dislikes the video is completely blind to true perseverance and effort and they are obviously selfish and ignorant.
Those dislikes must be bots, cause I don't want to believe humans can be such idiots, but unfortunately many of them are. To dislike this you must have some serious brain damage, total lack of empathy and even evil character
Every time show this video to my clients to explain team based innovation I get private responses of the attendants, saying that this has changed the way they want to move forward as a company. So, you are a on quest to help many more people that just us mtbers, believe me. Thanks for that Martyn and Co.
Wow... Mr. Ashton... I've only been watching GMBN for the last few months. Slowly but surely, I am getting to know the presenters, and the type of content to expect from each. This, however, had a totally different impact on me than any other material i've seen yet. It gave me chicken skin, several times, lol.. To know the heights you've been to in your career, and to see the excitement on your face at whistler, all the way to you explaining what the trip meant to you. I ain't gonna lie, it got dusty in here. To have friends surround you with such support, and to see the love the community has for you, it just had to make you feel like a million. So proud of you man. This is really, truly, precious material, and will impact me and the way I approach not only riding, but support of the community, for a long, long time. Thank you sir. Thank you for sharing this!
I found my way to this video because of the 2020 GMBN crashes video that just got posted today. I have to say that it's an absolutely top-shelf 20 minutes of great riding, trails, backstory, production. See the look on his face when he saw those forks!? Most import takeaway for me was the genuine love and respect between Martyn and his friends/crew at GMBN. I'm not gonna lie, it made me a bit emotional. Martyn you're the man, you can ride that stuff: you're absolutely an athlete and then some! LEGEND!
Martyn, I hope you can see this msg. You Sir are a fantastic role model, inspiration and champion for disabled riders. I'm a member of a couple of biking groups on FB and have mentioned you, your disability and the determination you've shown throughout the "dark days". I cant put into words how much you've helped people without even knowing by coaxing riders back into the saddle to pursue their fulfillment. You deserve so much more recognition my friend. God bless, ride hard, love life 👍👍👍
Martyn, you are my hero. I've watched many of your videos and I look up to you. I wish I can accomplish even half of what you have accomplished... and I'm not disabled. You made me realise anything is possible and nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams and passion. And I thank you so much for it. You're so lucky to have such good friends. Thank you GMBN. Thank you Martyn.
Thank you Martyn and the rest of the GMBN team for posting this, It was so motivational, it left me with no excuses to go out and ride my bike for the first time this year, despite being overweight and out of shape, I went out and rode my bike today, a 6.6 mile loop, someone even built a seesaw/teeter todder out there, I've never even seen one before other than in videos, and thanks to the GMBN videos I rode it, it wasn't pretty but I did it, Thanks again to the entire crew there at GMBN, this is by far the best Mountain biking channel out there.
Martyn you are one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever watched on RUclips. You are an amazing person with a fabulous sense of humour. Keep mountain biking bro
Martyn Ashton, you and your dedicated support team are a huge inspiration for the adaptive community of injured athletes/vets/disabled kids and adults. I hope that everyone who becomes unable to do their "sport" due to disability issues will see this inspirational video and find their personal way to "adapt and overcome" so they can experience tears of joy when they are once again able to do the sport they love.
True definition of MTB culture, a true passion for the sport not letting life holding you back, and a great group of friends / people going that extra mile for you, keep on shredding man . a real inspiration to every one
Testament to how good a rider Martyn is that he's still able to ride like this. And how good the engineers and friends are that can put together a setup that will allow it. Awesome!
This is amazing Martyn. What do the guys think about the following? Adding a link suspension somewhere between the bottom bracket and the top tube? You may be able to take out some of that preload in the kickers so you're not getting bucked.
An other approach to the problem would be to lower the center of gravity. If you could get the seat mounted much lower, martyn would sit in the bike instead on it. Therefor there would be less leverage, and less turning moment. It should be much more stable.
This was even better than first video. Dont get me wrong. The first ride back was really cool and emotional but this one seemed different. So cool to see a passionate biker riding his bike and having the time of his life with friends. I'm touched. Hope to see tons of riding from Martyn and maybe it inspires more people.
I suffered a spinal injury 11 years ago. I was unable to move my legs and immediately began thinking about adaptive sports. I knew what kind of bike i would need, but knew I’d never be able to afford it. It would have been like his. I am very fortunate as over the years I made strides in recovery. I can’t run, or pedal uphill. But I can use a pedal assist. Mountain biking again has been amazing. I know exactly what he feels like. Strangely, the part of this video that impacted me the most was watching his support group and thinking of how helpful my friends have been through my challenges. Good people who get stoked helping others get stoked are worth their weight in gold. Thank you for producing this.
Back. In the 70s my dad broke his back luckerly he wasn't paralysed but it was touch and go watching this reminded me of his achievements. It also shows what the spirit of mountain biking is. Can't wait fo the next video
Hands down one of the two best videos on YT... this and your Ft Bill. Genuinely man crying at both of these, to see you back on two wheels and the sheer enjoyment that brings to you. When you've got Bikes and Buddies, everything is right with the world!
You are all such good hearted People! man that Makes me even cry, how doddy, Blake and all the other guys care for martyn and Freak out cause of happyiness for him and make that all possible! You are all so good People having a damn good Time together!

BKXC nice to see you ever here!
Having a great bunch of friends is one thing. Having the balls to ride and race at whistler while being paralysed is something else. Your friends will support you, but without having the balls to do it and go hard, your friends are just standing by.
Bkxc is everywhere!
This is destined to become a monumentally moving video to millions of humans. Right now, the mountain bike community is in awe at your Brit-Grit balls, (not to mention your entire team's steadfast tenacity)....Well done, lads. We stand smitten.

Amazing friends, truly the best.
grandma clapping from her wheelchair at 6:25 was great!
I saw that, loved it. Amazing
This made me tear up. The excitement and earnestness in Martyn's voice was like a kid on Christmas morning, so genuine. This is what friendship is all about. Love you guys! Ride On!

Brilliant
SO COOL! Great work Martyn & team GMBN.

Damn those ninjas cutting onions while going downhill -- and some forgot their goggles.
Best video yet. Not only was Martin riding but even the filming and editing was spectacular. Him and Scotty Cranmer are so inspirational
Martyn looked so happy. So inspiring to see him ride the way he did. You really are one of the best riders to overcome such an injury and still be able to race one of the biggest races out there on trails I wouldn’t be able to ride myself. Thank you for this great video GMBN.
So so stoked on this Martyn... GMBN, you guys are all legends! Special little wink to you Blake ;) Heroes all round.
Animal little kiss right back guys 💋
Cheers Animal 😁

It's amazing how Martyn is paralyzed and still gets bigger air time and whips than me hahah. Well done Martyn 🙂
He's also much better at rolling stoppies than me! What a legend.
Yeah I was trying to ignore that park....
Mid-West Rider part
How was he paralysed
An accident while performing a trick on MotoGP, a 3 meter fall. Got damaged the T9 and T10 spinal bones and was paralyzed below it - his whole feet.
Bro you make me cry with this video, you are a Man and l can feel your adrenaline and feeling’s just go one with your best team GMBN

This was SOOO GOOD.
Martyn you are one of the biggest inspirations i know of. Your mentality and determination are second to none. Big up bro 🤙
Glad you enjoyed the vid Jack! Share it with your friends 😉

Blake dude you have a sixth sense when Martyn is in need you are sooo quick off the mark.massive respect to all the team at GMBN
Who disliked this seriously come on.
That is exactly what I was wondering. Anyone who dislikes the video is completely blind to true perseverance and effort and they are obviously selfish and ignorant.
People who are jealous of Martyn's shredding skills!
People who can not ride even with two lags. LOL!
They're just mad because he has a better bike than them lol
Those dislikes must be bots, cause I don't want to believe humans can be such idiots, but unfortunately many of them are. To dislike this you must have some serious brain damage, total lack of empathy and even evil character
A group of friends that are this excited to see their friend happy and willing to help them get there is such a beautiful thing. Bravo gents
Every time show this video to my clients to explain team based innovation I get private responses of the attendants, saying that this has changed the way they want to move forward as a company. So, you are a on quest to help many more people that just us mtbers, believe me. Thanks for that Martyn and Co.
This is the best thing on the internet!!!!!!
Wow... Mr.
Cool edit Martyn. Shows that Blake Doddy and the GMBN crew are more than just a youtube channel but a family. Real love right there.
Beautiful video💯👌🤘
Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
LEGEND!
This is incredible, showing that you don’t need legs to absolutely shred. RIDE OR DIE🤙🏼
I'm not crying! You're crying!
Maybe make a progression session video to send to GMBN?
Martyn you are one of the most inspirational people I’ve ever watched on RUclips. You are an amazing person with a fabulous sense of humour. Keep mountain biking bro
This is for sure the best video on youtube ! Big Motivation for an lot of people. #goodtimes
Cheers! Give it a share for us ;)
A truly inspirational video, proves anything is possible. Great work GMBN and especially Martin.
Cheers Horsey !
This is the example of don't be afraid of failing...
be afraid of not doing what you love because you are overcome with fear.....
Cheers mate....
Best 20 minutes I’ve ever had on the toilet. Fucking amazing 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I've been waiting ages for another release of you riding!!
Thanks for watching T!
Testament to how good a rider Martyn is that he's still able to ride like this. And how good the engineers and friends are that can put together a setup that will allow it. Awesome!
If this doesn't make you smile, then there's something wrong with you! YESS MARTYNN!!!!!! So happy for you man
So good to see! I'd also like to give props to the editors and production crew; they did a fantastic job on this video.
BEST GMBN VIDEO EVEEEER!!! Smiled all the way through the video but the feels did hit me at the end. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Raw inspiration right here! I just live how personal this story was! Great job Martyn, and to #teamGMBN, that's what true friendship is all about! 🤙🤙🤙
This is amazing Martyn. What do the guys think about the following? Adding a link suspension somewhere between the bottom bracket and the top tube? You may be able to take out some of that preload in the kickers so you're not getting bucked.
More rebound damping
An other approach to the problem would be to lower the center of gravity. If you could get the seat mounted much lower, martyn would sit in the bike instead on it. Therefor there would be less leverage, and less turning moment. It should be much more stable.
A suspension seatpost
ein lappen make the bike longer, make the seat part of the top tube so Martin is properly in the bike
Respect To Martyn! Still chasing his dreams! Respect!
First time I've cried at a GMBN video .
Amen to this.
What about Martyn rides again or down not out
Of all the GMBN videos, this is by far my favorite. Camaraderie... perfectly describes it. Much love and respect.
Incredible guys. Blake, Doddy and the rest of the Crew - the attitude you have towards Martyn is incredible. We can all learn from you guys.
One of the best gmbn video yet, unreal !
Thanks Ryan! Share it with your mates 😃
Back. In the 70s my dad broke his back luckerly he wasn't paralysed but it was touch and go watching this reminded me of his achievements. It also shows what the spirit of mountain biking is. Can't wait fo the next video
