      Roi was introduced here because it supposed to be a really good eating fish and we have like no grouper but everyone scared too eat it. I’ve eaten easily 100+ roi in the past 2 years and have been fine

      Might be one of the people who can handle cigutara. Some research has shown some ethnicities can clear the toxin while others can not at all. Research is still ongoing trying to figure out what exactly allows some people to handle and some to not at all. Even among these ethnicities some individuals can have little to no ability to handle to toxin. Table 5 on this paper has an interesting breakdown on this www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4530775/

    I just saw a video of some boys on Oahu that eat the roi. They say ulua are just as likely to carry ciguatera and everyone eats them so why not eat roi. I still haven’t tried.... I dont know if I will

    I just watched this video. I want to thank you for sharing the information about the ROI. No doubt I would have eaten all I caught worth keeping. That is definitely a no no. Do you have, or could you make a video about types of other reef fish we should not keep?

    Looks very similar to what we call a coral trout in oz. Prized eating fish, pretty much what everyone chases out the reef.

    You dunked with a hammer bomb? If you did I did not know you could do that. Is it best to dunk with them in Sandy Areas Only?

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  4 года назад

      Sure can! I would only risk it in super sandy zones.

    Yoo I was just out there in March, fishing and snorkeling that beach! If you go out to the edge of the wall on the left there were some huge Roi hanging under rocks out there. Really made me wish they allowed spearfishing for roi out there.
    I also swam with two 40-50lb Ulua that were cruising the sand patch in the middle of the beach.

    • @ShakaFishing
