- Can you identify anyone? Filmed by Cor Klaasen, this is a wedding in Donnybrook Church, Dublin 4 Ireland. Judging by the clothing and cars, it looks like the mid-1960s. The reception was held in Blessington, and the happy couple flew out of Dublin airport to go on their honeymoon. One or other of the newlyweds could have been working in advertising - perhaps O'Kennedy-Brindley? Can you identify anyone in the film?
Beautiful bride lovely video shame it's soon gonna be took down
So glad this was identified. Blessings and happiness to all. Hope they had a good 'un..xoxoxo
@jpbourke Superb! Thanks so much! I've made contact with the family through my mum, so a DVD will be winging its way to you soon - nearly fifty years late! I'll be taking this video down soon, as that's been requested by the bride.
Thanks again to everyone for commenting and helping to find the happy couple!
this is the church of the sacred heart in donnybrook.
beautiful footage
great movie, enjoyed with a backing track from luke kelly all respect and
peace
they flew out to a honeymoon abroad! back in the mid-sixties! the couple must have been loaded with money.
My parents went to Paris for their honeymoon 1953. They were not loaded. Lots of people went to London back then!
Have you contacted RTE? I think their Dublin offices are in Donnybrook. I'm guessing they would be interested in helping trace the couple as it would make a nice local TV feature for the local news.
Hi seftonwallet -
No, I didn't think of that! What a great idea. I'll check it out.
cheers
Ben
The red haired groomsman is, I think, John Paget Bourke, former director of Bank of Ireland. His son Jay Bourke is in the restaurant business in Dublin
I think Joan Flynn is the current owner of the Downshire House Hotel in Blessington (which closed a couple of years ago). She might have records going back to 62/63.
The limo's registration plate looks like IZD 885 to me. Anyway, a Ford Taurus crosses the road, which leads me to believe the film was shot in 1963.
This is John Paget Bourke, the lady you see first is Margaret Bourke.
Ben,
How did you find the film?
Regards,
Kevin
Did you ever find the owners?
