Don’t think you left anything out! Thanks for going over the selection of rods with want to know information! Good luck tomorrow!
Great breakdown Vic! That's a sweet collection.
Can't wait for the fishing video to see them in action!
keep the videos coming thank you love the info. great detailed work. thank you
Thank you, i was waiting a comperision to buy between these rods, now i made my decision.
Which one are u getting?
Ultralight University love it man! In your opinion should the rod be more expensive aka higher quality than the reel or vice versa? Most anglers purchase Lamborghini reels, but have Ford rods.
good way to put it. Especially in UL fishing
You're the only one that I'm aware of doing this kind of analysis for ultra light fishing. Or that talks about 'technique specific' rods for ultra light. I would love to see a video from you in the vein of the 'tactical bassin' or 'hook-up tackle' videos where they talk about certain rods for certain types of baits. For example, do you like to fish trout magents, then get one of these 3 rods. Or do you like to float fish, get one of these rods, etc. There are tons of these videos on YT for bass, but not for stocked trout, panfish etc.
i would love to make such a video, and i probably will, but it would be just opinions and personal preferences... u can use any rod for whatever u want and it will probably still work..
@@ifishcatfish That is true, and the same could be said for bass fishing (which I don't do), that you could use about any rod with any bait. But if there are certain types of baits or methods of fishing that pair well with certain rods (for ultra light fishing), you are the only one qualified to talk about it that I am aware of.
very enjoyable
want know your thought on yamaga blank do you recomend it ?
I got a Bluecurrent III 510 and a 82 ! They are the budget models …I found them excellent…
I use the 510 mostly for Ajing fishing and trout in small creeks
It's not that simple. Better wait for the review. One, maybe two weeks. I fished it a lot today and im almost ready for the review.
@@cespaia there are alot used bluecurrent II on sale in my area and im intrested on them
@@ifishcatfish Alright man i will keep on lookout for the review 🔥
Hey! what are those micro snaps you are using for your trout magnet jig heads? are those "OWNER p-27 ITTE SNAP S" or something else?
No they are not. U can go to www.ifishtackle.com and u will see them. I have images and video. They are extremely small ul clips. And the BG-1 is the best ultralight jig in USA with no second place.
Good video Victor.....until.......you got to the part about going to MarrowBone Lake....LOL. Why would you pass by all the good water you have to go there🤣
What would u rather fosh right now, Randy?
@@ifishcatfish I would be fishing the tailrace below Nickajack...and or.....trying the bay up in the lake in front of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Im surprised with all this nice weather there is still no panfish shallow... I've checked quite a few lakes... haven't seen nothing shallow yet. Then they will all come shallow, all at once, and u can't fish them all : ). I wish every lake would spawn in a different month : )
by the way... i need to send you a livescope screenshot from Marrowbone sometimes. There are schools of small crappie that are 1000 fish big. I have no problem with small crappie, Randy, i'ma pluck them all day. Cept cant find them yet : ). Need 5 more degrees water temp...
Hey victor i am trying to get one of these rods for crappie fishing with a float, which model will you recommand
none of these, buddy, not suited for that. These rods are extremely thin and fragile. For float i recommend the regular Presso rods sold in United States that cost $70. Any size from 7, 7'6 or 8'0
Another great video, just what I was waiting for. Good luck out there today! I have a few questions if you don’t mind.
What in your opinion is a good quality rod for fishing soft plastics for small/large mouth bass in the sub 18-20” range?
Have you ever tried on of the Tenryu Lunakia rods? If so what was your impression?
Do you generally adhere to the line diameter rating of you JDM rods, or is it ok in your opinion to go over by 0.1-0.2mm?
Keep the quality content coming, we all appreciate your time investment for our entertainment/learning.
well fishing was horrible, but it was a gorgeous day, and i still enjoyed it.
I don't know anything about big bass. I rarely catch anything over 14".. and I catch them on panfish lures.
I have not tried those rods, but they look too heavy and too stiff for my kind of fishing. I think they would be amazing for 18-20" bass though.
0.2mm is way too much to go over. Maybe you mean 0.02mm? The lines I use range from 0.108 to 0.148 mm.
Thicker line will affect the line lay, especially on shimano reels. Shimano reels lay the line in paralel coils and they can fit only so many coils from bottom to top of spool. If u put thicker line, now the coils won't fit and the line lay will start to look like Daiwa.
That said, line lay is the only problem. If your line lay looks fine, and the line can fly through the guides of the rod OK - then you are fine.
@@ifishcatfish Sorry to hear the fish weren’t cooperating today but a bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work.
My mistake, I don’t know where my brain was. I meant to say .1-.2 on the pe gauging system JDM rods like to use. If a rod called for a max of pe 0.4 would stepping to pe 0.6 present too much issue. I appreciate the reply, seems to be a little trial and error depending on the combo being used, makes sense.
I have the lunakia in 610ml. Love it! My main trout spoon rod. Very light and pairs perfectly with my 2000 luvias. Very thin but has enough power to keep you in control. It says medium light but its just as ultra light as my other UL rods. Rod is fast. Tip has some bend but its a tubular tip so it can only bend so much. When I weighed it,it was around 58 grams. Reminds me a bit of a major craft in terms of action, but a little more parabolic. Definitely would not recommend for jigging. Too stiff for that. But if you’re reel retrieving a lure I would definitely recommend the model I have. Don’t forget to buy a hook keeper with it.
How do you feel about the lack of butt? Might not be a big deal with a shorter and lighter rod, but I like having something to hold down there when I'm making a cast.
if we were talking about bass rods - i would say i know what you mean. But i never cast with two hands ultralight rods. I have 8 foot long daiwa presso and still cast with one hand..
If that bothers u check the Yamaga Blanks i just reviewed. Has a butt and is more reasonable for bank fishing.. There rods are extremely fragile and i wouldn't use them for bank fishing...
Big ups
Good day! Thanks for the video. have you ever fished an old daiwa presso ags ultralight? I would be interested to know if the old presso rod has the same blank as the new one. i don't like the new one, it doesn't have a handle at the end, that's why i want the old one. I hope the blank is not worse for her.
No, blank of the new Presso AGS is superior to the old one, even though the old one costs twice as much. The guides might be the same but even about that im not sure because daiwa did a lot of improvements in 10 years..
@@ifishcatfish thank you!
When u asked what other rod could compare, wouldn't the eradicator prototype barbatos also be very comparable, that u tried out a while ago
I think thats the same blank as eradicator, but just no handle, and the tube has wider diameter.. That rod is actually a true L power rod, it is stiffer than any of the rods in this video..
@@ifishcatfish just added comment not sure if you were tagged properly . Asking comparison on Soare vs Presso . Thanks
Soare is move beautiful and more comfortable but feels very different due to solid tip. Solid tip rods are a different category in terms of power and feel..
Hello, what a comparison great job!! Before 2 days i was thinking to get 510xul, but its only for small jig and small spoon. My goal is perch and river mullet, the perch is catching 80% with jig head and river mullet 80% with cranks/minnow/spoon. So in my bag i have spoon, minnow, crank 1-5g and jig 1-3g, the way is 61ml or 61l, if i go for 61ml i cant fish perch, and if i go 61l i will catch perch and mullet but will have not best parabolic i want to 😅 It is possible to compare the bend over 61ml and 61l, so i get finnaly decision which one to buy between 61ml and 61l. Thanks.!
The ML is very parabolic. Maybe the most parabolic rod i have had. The L has a normal fast action. The tip bends very well but the forst section is stiffer and does not bend as
Much and most bend is in the forst section.
I have the st croix legend elite, 7 ft rod I had the Luvias air on that rod man I put the 19 vanquish it’s a match made in heaven so I got two now I had that abu Garcia it’s way to finesse for me you got to be careful with that rod that’s why I sold mine I was afraid of breaking that’s way I went with them presso cheap and you don’t have to worry about breaking it but if you break it it’s not $400 or $500
i thought u had the 6'9, not 6'7
Which one is the best for your opinion?
Hi Victor. I love your videos. So far the ONLY person on RUclips Ive seen with proper details about why/how a rod does what it does. I use ultralight tackle to catch Bream in Australia. Just had a question about the 61ML. Despite the blank being more parabolic. Does it feel like it has more power compared to the 61L?
No, it does not have more power than the L. Maybe the L has a little more power. But i would say they are both UL power
Mate I would not use these in aus for bream, anything 32+ will smoke you with this.
@@EzraSwannellFishing Hey mate, great to see another Aussie watching Victor's videos. I've already pulled the trigger haha. So far I haven't had any problems and the biggest one I've caught so far with it is a 32cm from underneath a pontoon. Patience with the fight has been the key. My local is extremely pressured and casting unweighted plastics has been the answer most days. Not many rods can cast unweighted plastics well in Aus, but this presso sends them flying. I understood I was sacrificing alot of power, but power doesn't matter if the bream aren't biting your lures.
@@chrisnguyen3211 yeah true point this rod would be perfect for very light lures when bream shut down, just where I fish there are many big bream and heaps of snags so this rod isn’t an option for me although it look super nice
What do you loose with the 61L ?
Do you loose the ability to cast as light of bait or jig?
Not really. Its casts amazing, maybe even farther, because of the extra 3 inches of length. The only downside to me is the Fast action. The first half of the rod does not bend very much, so you play the fish only with the top half. Its really not bad, its not like extra fast action of the Corto.. But i just love the parabolic bend of the XUL and the ML. The UL and L have fast action.
@i_fish i_fish what’s your thoughts on the shimano Soare 6’ you reviewed in comparison to these Presso rods ? I see it didn’t even make the line up . Just ordered , waiting on mine. Appreciate the content and your opinions
i have other rods that didn't make the line because they are not classic and its hard to compare. The Soare XR has a solid tip so it is a different kind of bend curve, u can't compare. I picked rods that are apples to apples. I love my Soare XR rods, i keep two of them actually.. you will love that rod. Just find a good reel for it
@@ifishcatfish thank you, I paired it with same Soare 2000. I understand now about the apples to apples… I guess I’ll understand even more as I also have the St.Croix Legend Elite Panfish in 6’ to compare it to.
@@oscher8249 another great rod.
@@ifishcatfish now you have me wanting the Preso… ugh, I just saw your other video comparing them … great content
Hi Victor, you say the 61ML is soft and parabolic, would you consider it wobbly? In California, we mini jig for trout with very soft and wobbly rods to impart action on the mini jig. I am looking for a JDM rod to fill this niche, but I am having difficulty finding a soft wobbly rod besides the discontinued eradicator slow tapers. Thank you.
If not, do you have recommendation on a slow recovery wobbly parabolic rod that weighs around 50g and is readily available for 1 g jig and?
It is not wobbly but also it is not as sharp as the L model. L model is fast action and is sharp, but mostly bends from tip. The ML is very parabolic, but still has fast recovery and i wouldn't describe it as wobbly. It is MORE Parabolic than the Eradicator. The Eradicator action is more parabolic than the L but less parabolic than the ML.
However if you are talking about 1g jigs, both the L and the ML are the wrong models, as they are UL power rods that load better over 1 gram. You want the XUL model that is was created personally by God himself for 1 gram jigs. Don't even ask me questions about action or wobbliness, its a waste of time. If you are casting 1 gram jigs, you want the 5'10 XUIL model. It loads so nice without being a noodle.
@@ifishcatfish hi Victor, sorry to bother you again and I know you don’t use braid, but I was about to purchase the 510XUL, but I see the line rating is only 1.5-3lb, but doesn’t mention PE size. Does that mean it’s not designed to use PE braid? Or just stay within those breakage strength when using braid
@@thomaskong5 breakage strength doesn't matter, only diameter. As long as your diameter is under 0.12mm u will be fine.
Good job 👍🏻, Victor what about 55L-S and 61ML-S . What it’s mean S?
these are solid tip models. I don't recommend any solid tip models, due to extra fast action.
Awesome Content! I am looking for a rod, i have 2023 Vanquish 1k & 2023 Diawa Airity 2k. Both super reels that need a good rod!
There is a hundred variables associated with picking a rod, and nobody except you knows how u fish, what you like, what is your budget and that kind of stuff. I have a pretty good playlist of rod reviews and i suggest you start there, because i can promise you nobody on youtube provides this much detail about a rod.
Hi Victor. I have still not decided which rod to take. Answering these two questions, will help me in choosing the right rod.
How do you think:
Is the AIR AGS ML 6.1 version more parabolic than TFO TPS2 601-2 and more sharp than TFO TPS2 601-2 while jigging with 2g jighead?
Is the AIR 51 OUL more parabolic than TFO TPS2 601-2 and more sharp than TFO TPS2 601-2 while jigging with 2g jighead?
Thank you in advance, best.
One more thing, just have found that i'm having daiwa presso 5'6 4pc rod ;). I have measured it and it have about 1,2mm on the tip and about 6.1mm on the bottom. For me, this rod has a sharp tip even with 3g jigheads while jigging it's a fast action rod for me. It's very good for jigging for me but a little too stiff action while fishing perches. So the Air AGS with the same sharp tip but 20% more soft/parabolic blank would be perfect ;). Looks that 510UL should fit, but not sure if the presso and presso air ags could be compared.
yes, the ML and XUL models are both more parabolic and have sharper tip. Not nearly as sharp as the L, but definitely sharper than TFO or your 4 piece daiwa presso
@@lmps5806 You understanding of Action is wrong, and that is dangerous when u watch my videos. The 4 piece Presso has very SLOW action. SLOW action is just another word for parabolic. It has nothing nothing nothing to do with Recovery and 'Sharp Tip'. It simply describes the SHAPE of the bend curve. If you make a rod very STIFF, as this horrible 4 piece garbage that i hate, it will appear to have fast recovery and sharp tip because it is so stiff and overpowered. That is like ML power rod, it has nothing to do with Ultralight fishing.
U want to ta have everything in one rod and that's not gona happen because the properties required for sharp tip don't allow parabolic bend. I think the Yamaga Blanks is the closest to what you want and is still one of my favorite rods and i am never selling it. If u buy the XUL and u throw small jigs u will like it. Because it is so short, it doesn't wobble even tho it has parabolic bend. But if u buy the longer ones u will probably wish the L was more parabolic or the ML have sharper tip. For the heavy jigs i recommend Yamaga Blanks
You are right, not possible to get everything in one rod. I would like to thank you so much for extremely detail resolving my doubts. I will start with 510UXL. Not the first, and not the last rod. ;). Best.@@ifishcatfish
Think the 61L would be good with 1/16oz jig and plastic?
Oh yeah! Absolutely! Even the UL can throw that but u lose 3” of length
@@ifishcatfish awesome, I have one coming. Will be my shortest JDM rod.
Hello. First, thank you again for so much detail review, perfect. I'm going to buy my next UL rod mostly for fishing perches in EU. The most often I use 1-3g jigheads or cheburashka hooks with 1,5' tantas or 2' keitech easy shiners with jigging and twiching.
Will the Light version AGS 61L handle 3g jighead + 2' keitech jigging with still relativly sharp tip?
For example, I'm using the TFO TPS2 601-2 and for me it's tip action could not be slower. How could you compare the AGS 61L vs TFO TPS2 601-2? Best.
The Presso has MUCH faster Recovery, if you understand what that means. The term slow action of the tip is meaningless, u probably mean slow recovery. Action is attribute of the blank, not the tip.
Anyway, the 6'1 L has extremely sharp tip and extremely fast recovery. HOWEVER, as i said in the video, this is not Light power rod, it is a true Ultralight. The fact is that your load is just a little too heavy for Ultralight. You can still fish it but this much weight will overload the tip. Don't confuse overloading the rod with what u call slow action or slow Recovery. I would say the limit of the Presso rods is about 2.5 g head. If you want to fish 3 gram and still have sharp tip, you should watch my review of the Yamaga Blanks. That blank has more power and will stay sharp even with 3 gram
Yes, you perfectly summarized what i wanted to know. The most important for me, is the real rig weight that will no overload the tip during jigging. For me it's important to always have the ability to make crisp/sharp/dynamic jig from the bottom. Regarding this, in your opinion what is the max lure weight for the 510XUL and the 61L? Best.
1.5g head, not lure. I don't weigh my lures. 1.5g head for XUL and 2.5g for L. Again, u can fish heavier too, but the tip will overload on the twitch
One more question, sorry ;). How would you compare the 510XUL and the 61L blank power to TFO TPS2 601-2? Regards.
@@lmps5806 the XUL is lower power. The L is similar power, but the blank has much faster recovery and sensitivity and elasticity. But similar power. If u want to throw larger jigs, Yamaga Blanks
Do you have any 9’-10’ ultralight you like? I have the phenix dragonfly 9’ 1-7lb and I love it for floating and twitching flies for steelhead and salmon
the regular Presso in 9' is the best rod i have seen.. but its getting heavy and stiff at that length.. Big difference vs the 8' model..
@@ifishcatfish the phenix dragonfly is lighter than the presso and it is one piece which allows a nice bend on the rod. You should do a review on one but they are hard to come by and shipping is expensive haha
@@Ninj_SRG lighter than the presso? Are you sure? That's not even an Ultrlight rod... How many grams is it? I've seen that rod, it is very thick, more like L or ML power..
@@ifishcatfish i don’t have a digital scale on hand but yes it was much lighter than the 2 piece presso I handled at the local tackleshop and the blank was thinner from my recollection. If I am wrong than it was probably because the rod is better balanced which made it feel less.
@@Ninj_SRG get a small scale for $20 from amazon. Don't u weigh any of your rods? This looks like a nice rod but even at that crazy price i bet it is heavier than the Presso.. If it cost $120 i could try it but not more than that
The new salty stage prototypes are the same blanks with better seats and a butt. I would like to sell the 3 air ags from this video I purchased. Anyone interested?
how could they possibly be the same blank? This is daiwa's own blank.. Thats one. But two - aren't those rods solid tips? Those blanks are not even close to being the same, they are the exact opposite of these...
I think the old Presso is the ugliest reel there😂
Well I said its the prettiest, so you must be wrong
