    Seeing the blue design immediately makes me think of a Sonic the Hedgehog. And seeing the great scales me me think it would be a much simpler way to spoof chain mail or over lapping plate mail. Remember the British soldiers mail shirts in Braveheart?

    Uncle Jessy Thank you so much for the giving me credit on my design. I use Cura { Extensions > Post Processing > Modify G-Code (Add a script) Pause at height}. Also cheap stiff Tulle has had strength issues. Nylon based mesh has been working well for me.

  • @jamespray
    @jamespray 6 лет назад +28

    Hey, wait -- forget cosplay for a second and consider that you're basically adding nylon fiber infill to a PLA print. What would it do for raw part strength to do this multiple times for a single part, especially focusing on getting it into layers near the top and bottom, and even more especially with a less-flexible material than nylon?

    • @UncleJessy
      @UncleJessy  6 лет назад +6

      That could be very interesting. Might be less flexible but provide more strength. I know people will sometimes back their prints with fiberglass. Could be interesting way to try and strengthen the print

    • @jamespray
      @jamespray 4 года назад

      @@NeoIsrafil The fibers in impregnated filaments have to be short, and generally won't bridge between each line extruded from the nozzle. This is about laying continuous fibers all the way across the part -- fundamentally different, though not as convenient :)

    for reference this code tells it to stop before printing layer X (so if you want it to print 2 layers then stop, X would be 3) it can also be easily altered to not only move x,y to 0,0, but you can also choose a value for z to get the print head to lift as well. you could also choose a value like 300 for Y (on the CR10) to make the bed more accessible. just be careful not to move anything.

    It’s fun and i prefer a stretch mesh because it’s a stronger fabric plus stretch, and people have had success with organza. Also tulle is read as “tool” 👍

    • @NerdGirlReview
      @NerdGirlReview 6 лет назад

      There are also fashion instagram pages that have been making both entirely tpe garments and been printing onto tulle for years. The only think I haven’t figured out is continuing the repeat and shifting on the bed without 1) blocking the axis and 2) keeping the repeat/ print aligned especially with a large amount of fabric.
      The one gal who is making tpe bomber jackets is having a company print them I’d guess their print bed is big enough to just print each piece

    I see people suggesting using chiffon and other sturdier fabrics, but those are usually more expensive. For lower budgets, the tulle like he’s using would work, and you could then reinforce the edges with interfacing scraps, twill tape, sturdier fabric scraps, etc, before sewing the tulle over another fabric. Of course, if you want this to last for multiple wears over a long period of time I would suggest trying to have a larger budget for any type of project that would require this technique.

    Great video! Have you tried this technique using power net, which stretches, as well as using tulle (pronounced TOOL), which does not stretch, to compare the end products in a finished costume? The power net-backed product would tend to mold much more easily to the body, as well as allowing easier movement when worn.

    ok thank you for this video! I now have a great cosplay look but underneath the scales i have put a btf lightning panel and using a nautral clear filament to allow the color to flow out if the scales and put it all together and placed it on the back. but do you think you can do a video of my description?

    Quick question. Will I need to remove a layer from the print in order to accommodate the fabric, or is the fabric thin enough that it will not make a difference?

    Using Cura if I wanted to add the G Code to pause after the 3rd layer I would place that code in the start gcode? or finish g code?

    Hey, Uncle Jessy! I was looking through MyMiniFactory and found "Sauron Armor - Helmet". I think that would be a great video to do sometime!

    Obviously, with some planning and patterning, this would be a fantastic way to make Thor's chain mail sleeves.

    A couple things come to mind as to what to make rock texture ala Thing or Korg, cartoon hair, Predator dreadlocks or at least a the roots to connect the longer strands to.

    you could like set up an array of sensors pretty easily using this if one were to simply leave/make some small holes in what'd be the housing for an individual sensor. or with some glue something simple like a small but flexible solar panel array that'd at least look kinda cool
