What I really love about Trelawney, her character is supposed to seem like an OBVIOUS scam artist, but it's a huge red herring. EVERYTHING she predicts comes true, literally EVERYTHING lol..."You're going to suffer, but be happy about it?" Says Ron....Seems weird right? It comes true, he suffers from the dementors, but he gets visions of his mother and hears her voice. It's painful, but he feels connected to her. "You were born in the dead of Winter, Potter?" "No I was born in July."-VOLDEMORT was born in Winter, she wasn't sensing Harry, she was sensing Voldemort. Her character is incredible.

    • @meajur
      @meajur 2 года назад +21

@@lelouchvibritannia4028 I've actually always wondered that, myself. Even Pottermore is no help there. Rowling wrote about how a lot of Trelawney's predictions were mostly just simple observations, but fails to give a hint to either Trelawney's past or future. Although I'm with you guys, Trelawney's track record is way too good for the "fraud" that she's clearly supposed to be. Her love of doom and gloom is what turns people off from noticing her uncanny ability to correctly interpret her divination aids.
Personally, I feel that she doesn't recover. Her alcoholism comes in significant parts from "underlying feeling of inadequacy" (Rowling's description). Knowing that she actually did have some of Cassandra's power probably would have gone a long way into giving Sybill a feeling of worth... but Sybill never remembers when prophecy takes her over, so as far as she knows, she has a teaching position that she is completely unqualified for. Although there is hope for her. When she first reads her tarot cards in the 6th book, she doesn't believe the cards she drew. But later in the book, it's clear she kept drawing the same cards and has decided to trust that she really was getting a message.

To add more (while trying to avoid spoilers): She refuses to sit at the dinner table with 12 others because she says when 13 people are together at the dinner table, the first one who stands will die... it turns out there was already 13 people at the dinner table because Pettigrew was there in rat form, and the first person to stand ends up dying. She also pulls the 'Tower' tarot card, and that same person ends up dying on the tower. And she tells Umbridge she's in danger, which is true - Umbridge ends up in danger in the Forbidden Forest.

In the books it talks about more about how Sirius, James and Peter became animagi so Remus wouldn't have to be alone durning full moons, because animagi are immune to a werewolf's bite, and James' animagus form was that of a Stag hence their Marauders nicknames Padfoot(Sirus Black) black dog, Mooney(Remus Lupin) werewolf, Prongs(James Potter) Stag, and Wormtail(Peter Pettigrew) rat

It was a pretty important thing in the book. I understand why it got cut though, just like Snape cooking Remus' potion every month.. The books are pretty complex and dense in narrative threads. A movie adaptation trying to tell everything would definitely suffer from the attempt.

Correction : Animagus isn't immune to werewolf's bite. The reason they become an animagus because werewolf doesn't attack animal. Werewolf only aggressive to human and human only and when they don't find human, they turned on themselves.

  • @wolfkniteX
    @wolfkniteX 2 года назад +141

They never really go through it in the film but in the books, Remus reveals that The Marauder's Map was actually created by himself, Harry's Dad James, Sirius and Peter Pettigrew. On the Map when the Twins give it to Harry he reads, "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers are proud to present THE MARAUDER'S MAP" Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs were the nicknames of the four that created the map and reference each of their animal forms.
When the Marauders were students at Hogwarts, James, Sirius and Peter all found out that Remus was turned into a Werewolf at an early age and rather than treat him with prejudice like most wizards they went out of their way to learn how to become Animagi so that they can turn into animals and hang out with Remus in his werewolf form (since werewolves don't attack animals). Dumbledore was also aware of Remus' condition and made sure to help him out by planting the Whomping Willow and creating the secret passage way under it that leads to The Shrieking Shack (there's a way to calm the tree down for a short time so it doesn't attack people), that's why people thought it was haunted and heard screaming, that was Remus howling as a werewolf.
Anyway, the three that learned to become Animagi, James Potter became a Stag and was nicknamed Prongs for his antlers (also the reason why Harry thought it was his dad saving him and Sirius from the Dementors), Sirius into a Dog, Padfoot, and Peter into a rat getting Wormtail because, well a rat's tail looks like a worm. Remus got the nickname "Moony" because of the whole Werewolf full moon thing.

This movie is when the movies start getting more mature. They start playing with more adult themes. And it's a treat to see this cast grow in front of your eyes. One thing that all the films did amazing with was casting. They pull in so many amazing actors into one franchise and everyone was cast exceptionally well. It was the pedigree of actors that appealed to me first and brought me to the franchise. I wanted to not like the Potter films being all grown up and well into adulthood, but once they all came out, I decided I'd give them a try and I kind of fell in love with the world created in these films. The acting was great, the special effects and production design were top notch, and it's just a very imaginative world. I've since read the books, got the Blu-ray box set, and even got the Lego game. Lol. This franchise reminded me that you're never too old to use your imagination. The franchise also has really good themes of character and compassion. Never a bad thing to work with. You're going to love the rest of the films. And I think Hagrid and Dumbledore are my favorite characters. Hagrid is a gentle giant that just loves all life and Dumbledore is wise, strong, but still knows how to be playful. Richard Harris was fantastic in the role, he felt very grandfatherly, you just trusted that he was looking out for your best interest, but Gambon brought out a slightly more serious and stronger fortitude to the character. I think they both did great in their performances. It had to be a hard role to step into for Gambon, but he pulled it off remarkably well.

A couple of facts about this one:
    1) According to the books, Aunt Marge breeds bulldogs. This breed was chosen by Rowling because they "look all grumpy all the time", but later she regretted choosing it because they appeared to be very sweet-natured.
    2) The Patronus takes the form of an animal which the carrier resembles the most (same thing with turning into an animal: one cannot choose it). Lupin's is a wolf, but he always summons its shield form because he thinks the animal form will reveal who he is.
    3) The wizard at the Leaky Cauldron (the one stirring his drink without touchin the spoon) reads A Brief History of Time, foreshadowing the Time-Turner use. Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey, glitches!

Michael Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore and especially his costume from the film has always felt 'off' for me. Starting with the costume. A wizard famous for transfiguration magic, yet wears a dirty sackcloth of an outfit. This in a society so easily swayed by mercurial public image shifts as the Wizarding world has been shown to be (Lockhart & Fudge). Perhaps as an eccentric and naturally gifted outsider, like Luna's dad, but not as the secrecy obsessed spymaster that Voldemort feared. Overall I prefer the Richard Harris' calm portrayal along with the original richly ornamented wizarding robes style he favored. Also meshes better with the dapper 'Fantastic Beasts' era Dumbledore. Whereas Gambon played him reactively.

Wouldn’t say embarrassing, they did a pretty good job for the most part. But from the third book on, there was just waaay too much to include in one movie. The best way to adapt them and preserve the majority of the book’s info, would be to adapt them in a big budget TV show, with current big budgets, with one season being one book. But let’s face it, if that happens, they’ll make it worse by “adapting it for a modern audience” or some shit.

My favorite Character is Severus Snape by far. I can't go into all of the reasons without giving spoilers but the fact that he is a fallible character, and just being a good guy doesn't mean that you can necessarily avoid falling into being petty or that you can ever truly redeem yourself from the past. It's a petty vengeance, but Snape's a petty person. It's the only way he can feel that he come out on top. Nobody's defending that side of him, nor the side that delights in scaring the students, but it's part of what makes him more than a two dimensional character.

Some back story. Tom Riddle was told by the Head master before Dumbledore he could have a job teaching the defence against the dark arts after he got a few years of experience after graduation. When Tom Riddle came back to the school a few years later to ask for that teaching job, Dumbledore was now the new Head Master and refused to give him that job that was promised (also Riddle’s appearance by them was starting to deteriorate from the fact he was using black magic and something else that will be explained down the road). Upon hearing this Tom Riddle cursed the position by claiming no one would hold the Defence Against the Dark position for more than one year. That is why you’ll see a revolving door of teachers and probably why Dumbledore never gave the position to Snape.

17:31 "Arresto Momentum". Literaly, "Stop Momentum", stops the effect of forces on a target temporarily. Including gravity. Not an easy spell at all to cast, add that to the fact that he is casting without a wand (which is basically a focus to your magic, usually a very volatile power without a proper conduit, not unlike electricity), and Dumbledore is basically showing why he is an SSS tier spellcaster here. Dumbledore is also know to be able to cast a few spells wordlessly on occasion, though that makes the casting even harder. Roughly put, words, gestures and a conduit help you to "shape your magic" into the desired effect, but using sheer willpower to WILL magic to happen accurately requires immense concentration and understanding about the way the spell works (so, it's not unlikely that he would have **created** the spell to begin with). Children happen to do cast wild magic during strong bouts of emotion (think Harry making the glass window disappear in the zoo, during the first movie), but they have zero control over the results.

If Alfonso Cuaron directed the Goblet of Fire and all other movies going forward, honestly they could all be in the number 1 spot. Cuaron achieved so much that he worked for in this movie
The dark weather and constant cloudy days make us appreciate the sunny days more
The cross conflict scene in the Shrieking Shack between Harry and three of the Marauders made it all the more better because of the eerie feeling
The Silver Stag scene both past and present were astounding and almost makes you tear up because of the great opera singing.
The changing of the seasons as shown by the whomping willow is another great subtle detail that makes you appreciate this film more.

In the first two books/films Dumbledore shows up only at the end for a few minutes and in a page here or there, doesn't really have a lot to work with. As the series goes on he gets more and it sucks that we never got to see the more forceful and commanding side of Richard Harris in some of the later scenes.
That said, the books are definitely worth a read as the final 4 movies (5,6,7 part 1 and 2) are big departures from the books and really miss a lot of the best scenes or have a lot of weird choices from the actors/directors that make scenes so much worse than they were on the page.

Azkaban was the book that got me invested in the Potterverse - the story gets deeper and darker, the characters grow and shit starts getting real - so I was happy when I saw the film because for me, this one stands head and shoulders above the others in the series. From a technical standpoint it's brilliant, and it feels like director is respectful of the world Rowling created but is not afraid to put his own stamp on things, so it feels more like a complete movie and not just an adaptation (and it IS a good adaptation!). There's more joy in exploring the possibilities of this magical world here, without ever feeling too gimmicky. It's a fully cohesive vision, and while what comes after tries to mimic the atmosphere Cùaron created here, it doesn't quite capture the soul. Hope you enjoy what comes next, Mello!

I've commented a couple examples before, like when she says Harry was born in mid Winter, but he's like No...I was born in July...Well she was sensing Voldemort, who was born in mid winter. And when the tea leaves say he's going to suffer but be happy about it, it's referring to the memory of his mother the Dementors bring out in him. He suffers from the pain and trauma of it, but he feels connected to his mother in those moments, enough to conjure a corporeal patronus charm.

This one is like those old guys who have been to war, they can still mess you up, and he only chooses not to, because he’s played both sides and prefers the good one. Like his wisdom was hard earned through grizzly events, just like how Dumbledore is supposed to be (who was always very smart, but his wisdom came from a lot of pain and many mistakes).
By the fifth movie, it becomes crystal clear why Voldemort is considered second to him, and why he’s afraid of him. As much as I liked the vibe of the Harris version, I never pictured him as a threatening magical powerhouse.

yeah every spell has its own wand motion that you have to perform.
    And fun fact:
the wand motion for the killing curse?
    A lightning bolt.
    edit:
also am I the only one who thinks that scene of Hogwarts' portcullis lowering and then the doors locking themselves is so satisfying both in sound design and visual design?

Minerva McGonagall is my favorite character. She takes no shit, shows compassion, teaches everyone fairly and is a boss witch. My dog is named after her :) we can her mini-tank... cause she is a tank and her name is mini.

My favorite Harry Potter character is Ginny!! I can relate so well with her, cuz she, like me IRL was an introvert and overtime, stress came out of her shell. It took someone in my men's group at church to get reintroduced to Harry Potter. I got all 8 movies recorded on my TiVo cuz all of them are extended
