Okay but the sound design when he’s singing in his bedroom is SO GOOD. I know it’s live but it literally SOUNDS like you’re in the room with him. Excited to hear the rest of the songs!

I know it's getting bad reviews but I have a feeling I'll love it because I can relate to it. I was a huge mess in high school and seeing Evan in that crowd wondering if anyone can see him really hits close to home.
The movie has the same criticisms as the original broadway play with a little bit of judging ben platt on the side. So it won’t be a problem because most of the people that will be watching is fans from the original broadway play.

I got an advanced screening of it yesterday and I was obsessed. If you love the original show, you’ll love the movie. Everyone is fixated on the age but you get past that really easily. Also a lot of critiques come from what the story itself was and we all know what the story really is. It’s an amazing film and can’t wait to see it again when it releases next week

He's not too old to play a teenager, because most actors playing teens are his age, and he looks way younger than his years. If it's because his dad is producing, and they're falsely calling it nepotism, that's bullshit as well, because he originated the role on Broadway, off-Broadway, all the way back to the workshops. People just love to bitch because these people are just plain toxic.

Saw a screening on Sunday. As someone who loves the Broadway show I was worried about the changes, but they really work for the film. I’m excited for everyone to see it! Going again next week for the Fathom Events showing.
Thanks for this! I'm going to trust the filmmakers, and Pasek, Paul, and Platt, that if they made certain changes it was because they truly believe it's what's right for the film. The movie and the show can both live on, and changes to one do not take away from the other.

I'm going to trust they knew what would work best for the movie. Good For You is rockin' as a song, and it will always be part of the original musical, but all the right creative people are in place for the movie. I will trust until I see it.

Just saw the movie and I cried 5 times. He’s so good. Saw the Broadway show and balled throughout. I feel so lucky to see Ben play Evan as he IS the original. One and only.
I loved the movie--it's brilliant. The teenager in me bawled like a baby. All I know is that the advance showing audience I saw it with are the best critics--we loved it! Go see it--I'm going to bet you'll be glad you did.

People have asked me and asked me repeatedly, "Why do you defend this movie so much? This musical?" Cuz it's the first time that a musical made me feel seen and heard. That I matter. I see a lot of myself in Evan. And in a weird way when I see the absolute vitriol that this movie has faced from critics who've absolutely had their knives out since the first trailer dropped, It feels like I'm being personally attacked. Especially since a large chunk of the Negative Reviews have taken the tone of "I HATE IT I LOATHE IT AND IF YOU ENJOY THIS LOVE THIS THEN THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!!" This musical and by an extension this movie has meant a lot/will mean a lot to a lot of people and affected people in a lot of positive ways and I wish that people could remember that. No movie/musical/entertainment is above criticisms. But also keep in mind that there a lot of people like me who are effected by this musical on deeply personal level.

As far as DUH, IT IS A CAREFULLY CONTRIVED PLAY WITH ALOT OF TALENT TO TAP INTO MILLENIAL NEUROSIS. AND BEN PRATT AND BEANIE FELDSTEIN ARE HOLLYWOOD KIDS THAT ARE NOTHING LIKE YOU. And if today's parents have the same solutions to kids' issues we are all in trouble. His mom pays for an idiot doctor who shoves prescriptions down his throat but buys his clothes at thrift stores. How about spending the money on an old used car. There are cheap clothes that can be stylish. Show him how to dress. Tell him to join yearbook or theater. Start there instead of looking for a treatment. Or watch the Breakfast Club, the 80's version of DEH!

I was moved by this video which less than 4 minutes. Even though I can’t understand almost what they say, and what he sing, I shed tears. Music can overcome the wall of languages. I can’t wait to watch this movie in theater, from Japan.

I think the reason this movie is getting bad reviews is because people don’t understand it. They think it’s a happy movie, they think that evan is a good guy. It’s not a story about getting what you want, it’s about accepting who you are. I think that this movie is like the shining in some ways. At first it will get bad reviews because people don’t understand it but give it a few months and this movie will bounce back. Trust me.
I already got the pleasure of watching this before it hitting theatres but I must say I'm DEFINITELY still going to watch this in theatres . I can just imagine how much more powerful the orchestra and singing voices will sound in the movie theatre .
I've already watched it twice and I'm not tired of it . This movie is an absolute masterpiece !!
It is worth every penny to see this in theatres when it comes out .

As a person who spent most her life alone and bullied by the world, it takes courage to be yourself.
And if you aren't confident all the time,that is okay, don't be, be your unconfident self, because none of us are confident in all ways, AND IT'S OKAY!! It is not easy, but once you learn how to love yourself for all your perfections and imperfections, that is when you will come to know what true confidence is.
And Im not there myself, but I'm going to keep trying to love myself despite what other's think or feel about me.
When you realize that walking alone doesn't mean there is something wrong with you, but maybe, just maybe, the world needs to change it's heart. 💚
I hope these words can help even one person find some sense of peace in a not so peaceful world.
The love you feel is your own, so learn to love yourself, and you will then radiate that love to others without needing them to give it back. Don't look for other's to validate you, when the chances are the people you are seeking validation from, need the same validation.

I can’t even watch the trailer without crying…and I know I’ll be triggered because of my own story dealing with depression and suicide even recently, but I still really want to see this.
This speaks to me ways i can’t describe. I’ve never felt like this but somehow I can feel it through the song and that lonely tears me apart. No should ever have to feel like that.

As someone with anxiety, the only letter this movie felt like was an anthrax letter.
It is ironic that a musical that talks about mental health (or tries to do it) can receive so many attacks because of the age of the actor that they are close to body shaming, as well as around negative criticism or disappointment as an adaptation. People like it or not, I think they forgot to pick up the message of empathy that many embraced seeing in theater.
Remember that there are many young people and adults enthusiastic about the film, which is the closest they will be to seeing the musical and continuing to throw manure long before the film begins only shows how little empathy there is.
From Singapore and have not seen the musical. But from the trailers, this is a movie made for Ben Platt, the original Evan! Screw to those who said he looks older than a high schooler... did these bunch of critics said the same to Grease or Glee?!?!?!

I can't wait to see that scene with Ben Platt and Julianne Moore. I think it was perfect casting for her to play the mom. But, it'll be hard to see her portray a loving mother because she played Margaret White in "Carrie"

@@michaelbyrne5606 I agree. I thought Heidi was supposed to have been a young mother. Julianne Moore is like 60, even if she doesn't look like it. She and Amy Adams should have been switched. But from what I've read, they significantly cut the parents' roles/backgrounds, anyway, so I'm not sure it'll make much difference.
@@Lizzo13 she's canonically "the young mom" according to evan and both mothers are supposed to be in their 40s. It def could've worked if she n amy were switched as they give off opposite vibes for the mothers. I'm kinda disappointed that they may be cutting back for those characters cuz all the characters play important roles and they need enough time to fit into the story properly

Probably not a popular opinion, but I think my favorite song in the soundtrack is: "Words Fail." Such powerful lyrics.
If it makes you feel better Words Fail is my favorite song from the show too! It's this amazing emotional rollercoaster of a climax that flows perfectly with the scene.
The movie rendered this scene flawlessly too (I loved the whole movie).

Considering how many other and younger actors have taken on this role since Ben originated it 5 years, there was absolutely ZERO reason for him to have the movie role. He looks so old that they needed a 60-year-old actress to play his mother! BUT considering that his father is the executive producer AND that Ben's solo singing career has gone exactly nowhere....what else could we expect?
Ben Platt is unbelievably incredible!
But all other things aside - which I think are minor quibbles, Dear Evan Hansen despite its flaws & not being a ‘perfect musical’ does address the current issues of: loneliness, isolation, mental health, suicide, grief in all its stages and forms. It shines a light on those among us who are “living lives of quiet desperation” and even if only for that reason alone, IT DESERVES TO EXIST AS A PIECE OF THEATRE & CINEMATIC ART.
Also touches on the social media frenzy society is involved with.
A little scared how my mom will react to seeing this with me in the theaters but I'm still excited:')

The age complaint about Platt makes no sense. Olivia Newton John was 29 when she played 17 year old Sandy in Grease, the movie. John Travolta was 23 playing a 18 year old. They both look older than Platt as Evan in DEH. Somehow this age crap got started by someone out there and it's stuck. I hate it for Platt. He's uber talented.

It doesn’t have a satisfying ending either so I guess it would be better to not keep reading it, but you would like to read until tha chapter where we can see both Connor’s and Evan’s povs intertwine, it’s the scene after Evan confesses everything to the Murphys. Best scene in the book in my opinion.

I love Ben Platt a lot and yeah they could've found someone who looks like they're in highschool but I am still going to give it a shot. Who knows? Maybe it'll be better than I imagined. I am seeing a lot of bad reviews of this movie on IMD and rotten tomatoes I hope it really isn’t that bad cause I love this musical.
It is SO GOOD
The issue is a lot of critics are being exposed to the source material for the first time, which was, even when it came out, highly controversial and had its backlash. If you like the musical you will probably like the movie.
It’s mostly critics who are giving bad reviews but regular people who saw the early screening are all mostly giving really good reviews especially based on people in the comments
@@kyleruiz7167 based off of the audience so far on IMDB, it’s not looking good. Half the audience gives it a perfect 10 (which is mind-boggling for any film lol) and the other half gives it a 1.
