- Two weeks since the body of college student Riley Strain was pulled from the Cumberland River, his family is still waiting for answers -
particularly the toxicology report. Riley’s father, Ryan Gilbert, joins NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” along with family friend Chris Dingman. Adding to their questions is the fact that they've had very little contact with Riley’s fraternity brothers who were partying with him in Nashville. Gilbert says the young men have made no effort to reach out to Riley’s family.

Makes them look a little guilty of something to me.
It's really unfortunate but fraternities have a rule that they're not allowed to talk to anyone or about these kinds of situations, they have someone designated to speak for the fraternity. It's sad but that's why, I'd rethink the fraternity I'm in.
I've seen that too and its taken quite seriously. I still think that is exactly what happened in the Idaho 4 case. I think frat/sorority are very involved. I'm so glad my son never even considered joining one. They are dangerous.

Riley literally vanished within 3 minutes & 100 yards of the bodycam footage & Officer Young. That’s extremely weird.
The cop is an ‘Executive Director’ in charge of school security… Why in gods name is he patrolling petty car theft on Saturday night?? is that normal?

To me, it looks like the police officer is supervising an abduction. Once detained, the officer transported Riley to a specific group & location for a hefty sum of money. That’s my opinion.

Did the fraternity guys see Riley with a serious head injury that night? Has the public seen him just drunk? A person's condition before and after suffering head trauma can be noticeable. Check out the common symptoms.

When the reporter asked if they suspect of foul play, she is not dumb for asking the same question each time, but she wants the world to know that Riley's being found in the river is probably more due to foul play. I am happy they have a private investigator. Keep digging and get the necessary court orders for Riley's phone records no matter how hard it might be to obtain them.

I thought he may have stumbled and fell in the river but after reading comments I am definitely of the mind the frat brothers were up to no good. They saw his condition and walked him down stairs but didn’t go out the door to see how he was, he wasn’t ok.
The family may not have contacted them because it’s an investigation. I don’t know but I pray for his family and that they get to the bottom of this.

There has been chatter re: frat boys slipping something in Riley's drink, pranking him. The fact that they have not been heard from in any media is SUSPICIOUS. When I was at a club once, 22 yrs old at the time, a guy started flirting with me, then of course he wanted to buy me a drink, silly me said "yes" well to make a long story short...after about 3 sips, I passed out completely, so he obviously spiked my drink and just like Riley at the bar, I was thrown out, but to the back of the club, which had no outlet, so at least I couldn't wander off, luckily I was with my good friend, who stayed by my side the entire time, until we got home.
The fraternity is sus… they make me sick. 🤦🏻♀️ I really really wonder, and especially after hearing the witnesses, if the fraternity boys on the phone were playing a prank on Riley, and they went too far and he ended up dead. My God. 💔🥺

@@cindygalbraith6180 telling him, keep going and when he realized he was at the river they would have a laugh and tease him a bit. Ya know since he was in the opposite direction of the hotel. He might have said I’m right here, and gave a land mark… and then told him keep going knowing when he saw the river the prank was up. I think he was mixed up with Tempo by Hilton and another business named tempo. It was by the river and I think he got it mixed up. His frat brothers might have told him keep going that way too. Idk. It’s just me speculating trying to figure this out. Still doesn’t explain his pants and boots still missing.

He could have went to the side of the river to pee and fell in with his pants unzipped explaining why they came off. Seems logical enough if he was drunk and probably needed to pee while obviously lost

plus the area he went missing, the very last footage of him - if you look at the signs in the area, it is under 24 hr surveillance since it's near the PD and they're not releasing it because it's too "low quality" and only showed him walking - yet all the other footage released has been shown w the exact same behavior/low quality. so why aren't they releasing it? it feels like they're covering something up. no way this happened without foul play, there's too many factors for it to be an accident.

And people coming at them with all kinds of accusations….I don’t blame them if they did lawyer up. I believe this was an alcohol induced accident. But, so many want someone to blame. And his father didn’t exactly say they had not heard from the friends….he said “not really”. And, they can only speculate that he was wearing a belt. People want to believe this is foul play so badly that they are saying all kinds of things. Now someone even indicated that the cop that spoke to him kidnapped him! 🙄 Maybe after speaking to that cop, Riley decided to make himself less visible for fear of arrest that he darted into the overgrown him and fell down it. I think the answer is way simpler than most want to believe. And even if something is found in toxicology reports, there would be no way to know if he took a drug willingly or not. Heartbreaking, but I believe it was an accident.

@@cindygalbraith6180 exactly. There was a drunk college kid on spring break that disappeared and was pulled from New River around the same time.. never was picked up by the media. Everyone is acting INSANE over this case and no one is mentioning alcohol. I only know about the New River Cadet bc I was arguing with someone in one of these comment sections about how drunk kids fall in rivers and die(or large bodies of water)but bc the media picked this up, they all want it to be murder which is sooo weird. So this person said back to me”well not where I’M FROM that sort of thing isn’t normal in New River, even on Spring Break!” I looked it up and a kid had literally JUST been pulled from the River, same EXACT scenario, had been missing etc. These people are insane.

It’s also weird witnesses said they heard them on the phone telling Riley to keep going because if he told them where they were - he obviously wasn’t going the right way. Seems like they were messing with him and didn’t think it would end up that way…they’re cowards for not speaking to Riley’s family or telling them anything.

As a parent, if I still had unanswered questions and things didn't seem to add up , you bet I would keep seeking to find answers until I was at peace. If this wasn't his norm to be drunk, it's possible something was slipped into his drink and could be the reason his friends have scattered. My question is they didn’t report him missing until the next morning around 11 correct? Why if he talked with a frat brother while he was lost did they not know he wasn’t at the hotel when the boys got back to hotel that night. Come on now.

University Frats are known for hazing and have a code of silence concerning issues when something goes awry. Universities also are known to cover for them. From the beginning I felt something was put in his drink at some point, whether it was at the last bar he was escorted from or sometime earlier in the evening! The Fraternity boys definitely need questioned!

Hazing is usually when you are first joining a fraternity. But like with any group of men living together, rivalries and disputes can arise. I wonder how well he fit into the fraternity. He seemed very outdoorsy - fisherman, hunter and close to his family. Maybe they wanted to prank him because he was different.
@buckeyeclayfan fraternities have been heavily watched since some guys have been accidentally hurt in a coma and buried.
These past years. I even saw a movie about it.
Some fraternities have been accused of not calling the police when someone is too intoxicated to even move on the campus.
So, this is why I think the 200 guys or the 50 guys he went out with did the hazing in a different way, not to get caught.
I've always thought of it has a prank gone wrong when he was missing.
I would have to see what the other frat brothers look like. Because they can all look like him.
People are sad because Riley was a good-looking dude, was so sweet, and was outdoors person.
For me , I know many of RileyS, and I've dated guys who look like him, so the whole good-looking guy who is very outdoorsy isn't new to me.
However, I need to put into account why Riley wanted to be in a fraternity when he was almost about to graduate and already had many jobs lined up. People say being in a fraternity opens doors because they think a frat brotherhood is something special to get the jobs out of college.

I know Riley had a fallen out with a frat brother that night he went missing. There was an argument that happened.
But , I still can't believe the bar threw out Riley like that. The bar didn't look out for him, and his frat brothers made it worse by telling Riley to walk the wrong way on purpose.

the autopsy would determine time of death so they'd know based on how decomposed he was + conditions of river. the answers are all in the autopsy.

Prayers that Riley's parents will get answers. Prayers for strength and peace. There are no cameras near the bridge, so nobody knows what really happened to Riley. It could have been an accident, but he also could have been pushed 🫸 or placed into the river.
Did the police ever question the homeless people who live near the bridge or try to talk to the people who were inside of the bar that he was kicked out of?
There was surveillance video at the bar showing he was accompanied by one of his frat brothers to the door and then left. Also, no sign of trauma/bruising on both autopsies (police and family paid) so foul play was ruled out pending toxicology. They've already talked to everyone in the camp and most of the rumors were disproven.
What if the fraternity brothers purposefully were giving Riley wrong directions to the hotel as a prank? Something is very suspicious that none of his “brothers” have even given TV interviews about the details about that night and not spoken to his parents! So awful. So sad. Riley could have EASILY asked that police officer if he/Riley was heading in the right direction to his hotel.

I'm so sorry for your family. I have watched and prayed for you family. One time someone put date rape drug in my food. I experienced what I saw happening to Riley. Walking down the hall bumping the was from side to side. Violent vomiting. And feeling like I was gonna die. Someone put something in your sons food or drink and the end result was your sons death. I also feel very strongly that your son was being followed and ran into foul play. In the end you will meet up with Riley again. Until then remember how blessed your are to have had him in your life for 22 years... this story will be in my heart and on my mind forever. God bless

The family is in my prayers. Everything from the time Riley was kicked out of the bar is a mystery. Hope his family finds the answers.
I followed the story closely when Riley was lost. I pray for the family everyday. I think of Riley often because he was the "all American young man," the boy next door. I think an award should be offered for the questions the family has. I understand the test results take time. Someone out there has information. May something good come out of this tragedy to honor Riley. Perhaps a higher fence to make it harder to have access to the river. If the bar can't call a ride for every person they ask to leave, maybe the bouncer should make sure there is atleast one person with that person. Because Riley already had a job lined up long before graduation, I am wondering if the frat brothers were jealous of him. Something seems fishy to me concerning the frat brothers.

The whole story is very suspicious. How is there no fowl play suspected when a person randomly dies,ends up in a river,no pants,no boots,no wallet? They need to even check for fentanyl needle marks even in hidden areas.
Shocking, they have not heard from those fraternity brothers. And I’ve noticed no one has mentioned the actual name of this fraternity so they are obviously doing everything they can not to mention the name of their fraternity. Right now all they care about is media perception and that again is not something I will ever understand… And the media is playing along, they don’t ever mention the actual name… If it’s an accident, accidents happen, you’ve got to get to the bottom of it… And then prevent something like this from ever happening again and you can also do PSA‘s/public service announcements so that his death is not in vain. If it was an accident make people aware to keep your buddies close, if it was crime, they need to get to the bottom of it…
And they should before the toxicology report comes out be talking to every single person in those videos to get answers, they don’t want this to be a crime because they don’t want Nashville to look bad but Nashville is already a crap town so there is nothing that they can do to make the image seem like it’s a good town because everybody knows it’s a crap town, full of crime. I believe that too. It doesn’t make him a bad person. Why is that so hard to accept? 🤷♀️ He is gone. None of this speculation will change that and trying to make it be foul play will just cause them more pain and agony. There is no evidence of foul play. There IS evidence of being intoxicated. Even if there is anything besides alcohol in the toxicology report, there will be no proof that someone put it in his drink.

@@notfree2899 They were bar hopping so there definitely will be alcohol. Bryant's was the 3rd bar they hit. Other than alcohol, college students sometimes do drugs voluntarily. Unless they have video of someone forcibly giving Riley drugs, it would be hard to prove as even the family commissioned autopsy showed no signs of violence.

I see many saying if he was drugged it won't be able to prove who did it and not for a second do I believe he injested drugs on his own, especially date rape drug. The frat has lots doing damage control for them on SM that's for sure.
Wow, I can't believe the fraternity "brothers" haven't reached out to show support, give information or anything to his suffering family. That likely means they didn't help at all in the search for Riley either. It makes them look all the more suspicious, like maybe they knew Riley had his drink drugged or something. Truly bad friends and human beings. You can't blame their lack of character on just being young.

What if he had pulled his pants down to his ankles for a bathroom break and then tripped, fell, and rolled down the bank into the river. That would explain pants coming off since the belt was undone and they were at his ankles. I'm just trying to figure out how this happened. He obviously had alcohol poisoning, they said he vomited, and could barely stand.
I keep thinking the same. He probably went to the brush by the river for coverage & also lost his credit card. Because I think anyone who would have taken his card would have kept it or made sure it wasn't found.

When you drink a lot of beer, you have to pee a lot. The more drunk he became, the more likely it is that he didn’t have his belt on very well towards the end of the night. He might even have stopped by the river to take a piss, causing all of this to happen.

Riley was super-tall, and was obviously impaired. He was staggery from drinking, prob went to have a pee by the river, and maybe slipped in the mud and passed out. It was an accident.

Even if they find a drug in his system, there would be no way of knowing if he took it willingly or not. Personally I don’t expect any drugs to be found, but if there is, it will not prove foul play.

Yes, this could be foul play for sure, but if it's accidental as it's been said, what if the fact since Riley was so drunk, he wanted to pee and perhaps dip into the river to mentally wake up a little, so he took off his pants and obviously shoes to pee and dip into the water. The reason I say about the dip in the river, is because my cousin(21 at the time) was once very drunk so before heading back home to his parents, he took off his cloth, dipped into the ocean/beach shore to be more alert when he arrived home, luckily he was alright. Regardless, may the truth come out.
remember frat boys are no different than ur average street kid. do not put it past them to have drugged, robbed and plotted on their "friend", maybe in an attempt to haze him or do some low down prank that these street degenerates do, remember this is a culture, and maybe they didnt like him, or whatever the motive may be. he had no pants, belt and wallet, which is a common instance in being robbed. i hate to speculate but this case has me feeling a way so i envision every outcome, and i believe perhaps they drugged him, robbed him, realized he wasnt waking up, and then in a panick threw the body.
perhaps it could be known if he has asthma or something, or they had overdosed him on accident while plotting to rob him, which would explain why they are hesitant to speak, show support and or feel any guilt.
all i know is this stuff is becoming too common of a thing now and with the rise of social media its becoming increasingly common to see this type of stuff go down and have cover ups at high levels, possibly the family behind the scenes or whoever the case. it is on us to keep the pressure up and make sure this case doesnt get away and we make sure those involved are brought to justice, or awareness is atleast brought tenfold to give it the best chance at justice it can. but to think that this was anything more than some kind of plot, i believe is ignorant and conformity to a real issue that will start to plague our communities if we dont speak up and DO SOMETHING. Teach your kids to always be aware. dont trust everyone and always be aware of the energies you are keeping around you and interacting with, you never know who has an evil intent, but if you keep a mindful eye you will be able to see the negative and keep away from it, most importantly be aware of PARTIES, SCHOOLS, and large gatherings with a combustible amount of energy. stick to who you love, and trust.

Regarding those frat brothers, very suspect that they have not contacted riley's family. When I lost my 35 year old son to an accident, his fellow employees sent me cards, even a huge plant from a nursery. I think his fraternity brothers are embarrassed by what happened and they don’t know what to say to Riley’s family. I also think his fraternity brothers probably don’t even know what happened to Riley. They could have been trying to steer him back to the hotel but as they too were drinking so they couldn’t have done much help.
I do think they do need to man up in this case and say what they know even if they were drunk.
I do not know why the police are not speaking with the fraternity brothers that were with Riley?? Also, I don't understand why the parents are not reaching out to them or the family friends to try to understand the chain of events from that evening! Regarding his belt I would think it would be a process of elimination by looking through his suitcase/belongings he took on the trip? I understand that his parents or friends he traveled with may not know how many belts he took with him however most guys have 1 or 2 belts that are their favorites. So why have they not looked through his belongings or stated that they have or why has that question not been raised? I truly feel that so many people let Riley down that evening!!! Especially his frat brothers and the police officer he spoke with!!! His frat brothers as you said they should have been the ones walking him back to the hotel or the police officer should have been calling a cab for him!! If you see someone us not okay, you help them especially if you're a near a river!! HELLO!!! Are there that many people in this world that are so self absorbed they cannot help someone in need??
