I would like to propose a variation of the encouger, and that is, the left-handed complimenter. For example... "My, that is such a unique interpretation of the piece." Or, "I never knew you could sound that good with so little practice."
I once had a flute teacher who kept using sports metaphors...I'm not athletic or sporty...that's why I joined band LOL Whenever I had to hold a long tone he would call it a "football throw" and compare it to throwing the winning pass...you want to keep the ball in the air until it reaches your teammate in the end zone. He also thought everybody wanted to play first chair in the Chicago Symphony. For me it was a hobby and I just wanted to be a better player.
Very fun. :) I would add two from my experience: 1. The Chatter - this teacher just wants friendly conversation for most of the lesson before saying, "Oh, look at the time. Well, let's run through a scale exercise or two before you go."... Then collects his check... 2. The Shamer - tries to guilt you into doing better or practicing more by making comments on how you're not trying hard enough. Different from whiplash because everything is said with deep disappointment, never anger.
The ukulele was the last straw. I couldn't keep the laughter back. And all because I was working with my daughter on practicing her soprano, and my son came in with his ukulele. Yeah, I tuned it to play in C on an open chord, which he does nicely at the age of two. We had a little Partridge band going. :-) I've experienced teachers like these stereotypes, so I get it. Wow! You two nailed it, but kept it amusing. Thanks!!!!
The overly descriptive teacher was completely hilarious. My recorder teacher was a mixture of many of these types, but she was absolutely never apathetic. Hurrah! My fiddle teacher probably has a greater proportion of encouraging teacher and less backseat driver - she prefers to give me my feedback either by telling me after I've stopped playing or by playing along with me and throwing some fairly heavy-handed hints at me by the way she's playing and a series of increasingly urgent glares. It's probably hilarious, but it works!
My teachers were all quite normal compared to the types in this video. And I am really happy about that. BUT, I loved the teacher who tried to be cool... :)
I've been a singer for years who is just starting recorder. The Perfectionist is the leader of the serious music group I sing with, and The Encourager is my church music director. Very funny but accurate video. LOL. (I'm learning a lot about recorders from you. Thank you!)
This was great .You're always so entertaining Sarah.I studied Classical Percussion in NYC with a legendary 20th Century Percussionist-Titan from 1979-1984.The best analogy to express what Percussion Ensemble rehearsals were like with him would be the first 45 minutes of Kubrick's"Full Metal Jacket".The fear in the room was palpable. We would often spend 2 hours on 1 measure.Keep up the great work and enjoy your summer.
Sooo funny! As a music teacher for children between 7 and 9 years old, I think I am more the encourager teacher. Patience is the key to sucess. Greetings from Brazil! I Love this Channel! 🤣🇧🇷❤👏👏👏👏
After watching this video I would say I'm both the cool and back seat driver piano teacher 😂 I do loved my stirct and very informative teachers. You learn so much from them!
As a piano teacher I found this video highly valuable because it shows exactly what not to do. And, yes, I confess, I have a slight streak of backseat driver teacher myself...
Sarah & John thanks for brightening up my Friday - sooo funny i was bent over in laughter both from recognising people who have taught me and also recognising how i sometimes teach ... oh my :-D
I love this video. I know all of them lol. Miss the teacher who wants to explain absolutely everything and never shut up, and never allows the student to speak, only wants to monologue. Like the "Show off" not playing but speaking about everything, maybe because they never have play good enough for themself. And they live with it but never have talked about it. Also miss the kind of teacher that never pay attention to students not because they are "apathetic" but they are continuously thinking in anything else.
I once went to see a teacher about starting the Viola. He spent almost an entire hour trying to get me to agree to spend £3000+ on a Viola, didn’t even bring out an instrument or ask me about my goals. He then threw me out of his house when I said I couldn’t afford to spend more than £30/week for an hour’s lesson. That was... not the best musical experience I’ve ever had.
Lol, I see the backseat driver in my teaching of piano. I have backed away from that as students have gotten more advanced. I love the long recorder. I didn't know it existed
I had a teacher once, she was a type 11, the I am a renowned professional musician, it's so beneath me to have to teach between concerts, and only ever focused on the stronger students in class, picking songs to their ability every time and saying to the weaker ones you'll have to sit this one out. I'm not sure how she kept this job which was so beneath her.
Apparently, according to my students and my daughters I am the backseat drivers. Oh, don't forget the story-tellers! Those are the O.G. Who had an elite career.
I'm really sad that my teacher said "we don't need recorders on the orchestra" Like, you haven't even tried and I own an alto, a tenor and a soprano. Nobody can tell me that range is completely useless.
I am watching this in 2020 when Youth with you 2 is airing and when I saw Sarah in the first type of music teacher (The Perfectionist). I got reminded of Lisa (BP) teaching dance.
I teach voice and I'm probably two parts the encourager, and one part the teacher who tries to be #cool. I don't play recorder but I love your informative and hilarious videos (and the ones that are both!)
Every vocal teacher is the Descriptive teacher... it's why vocalists get a bad rep for being dramatic and emotional XD. I mean it's kinda hard to not be overly symbolic and descriptive when you can't hold or take apart your instrument to look inside it lol
Very funny. I was finding out that i have grapt the flute a bit wrong over time, and getting a bit angry about it. That was the right thing to watch after this discovery :D
My only experience with music teachers would be from all my time spent in choir. I had one teacher tell us all to stop yowling at her like a bunch of cats in heat. 🤣🤣😅
I love beatbox part, it actually sounds amazing! And the substitute teacher with a ukulele, so funny
sign me the fuck up for a teacher who adds sick beatbox tracks under my flute playing!
I almost died when Sarah started beatboxing while doing some Shirley Temple style dance!
"Play as if you're eating delicious Marzipan" - from now on, I'm definitely going to play all my music with that description in mind.
I would like to propose a variation of the encouger, and that is, the left-handed complimenter.
For example... "My, that is such a unique interpretation of the piece." Or, "I never knew you could sound that good with so little practice."
Excellent. You forgot the eleventh one : the normal and human teacher who respects the pupil !
Theres no such type
@@nobodyabc7402 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What is this strange creature you speak of
My teacher
As someone who came from a slavic country.... Im not sure if i understand what youre talking about xD
Sarah’s got some beatbox skills! Loved the video!

“Play as you’re eating marzipan” 😂😂

The chatter for sure. I've had one who talked half of the lesson about random stuff... and I had to pay for it haha
Mine is a free spirit for sure... She's had me playing to trees outside the window.... 😆
When Jon beat himself with the ukelele I totally lost it. Epic video.
Pretty awesome recorder playing by John!

A lot is true. But you mad me laugh in the way you did it.

My flute teacher used to smoke whilst I was practising ! :) He was crazy but friendly !

I think a beat-boxing video is in order.
Oh yeah please. It has to happen
Loved this, keep shining!
After watching this video I would say I'm both the cool and back seat driver piano teacher 😂 I do loved my stirct and very informative teachers. You learn so much from them!
how about the "conductor". It's kind of like the backseat driver but with more hand movements. I had that one.
As a piano teacher I found this video highly valuable because it shows exactly what not to do. And, yes, I confess, I have a slight streak of backseat driver teacher myself...
Ive been playing the recorder for 3 years , your vids help me alot . Thanks for all
I loved it!! I've already had Teacher Whiplash ... but I fit in as an encouraging teacher and #cool 😂🤣
Sarah & John thanks for brightening up my Friday - sooo funny i was bent over in laughter both from recognising people who have taught me and also recognising how i sometimes teach ... oh my :-D
The key to being a good teacher is a love of teaching.😃You make very interesting and or informative videos! Great job🍨🎶
Omg you literally channeled all off my past teachers
😂😂 I had a band teacher who got so mad teaching middle school students that he broke his wand thing and left the room. 🤣🤣🤣
I got goose bumps in the cool teacher part
😂😂 the substitute teacher plays a different instrument. Classic😂😂
You saved my day! I laughed so hard, really funny! You both are very cute!! Thank you so much!
I started teaching my much younger homeschooled little sister recorder and I can tell you, I am all of these.
Great headband
I love how he looks at his watch but there's no watch.
I love your channel

Can you do more with you and John beatboxing? That was the best part!
My first graduate school voice teacher was #2. She literally checked her emails and answered the phone during my lessons.
Hahaha you are so funny! I like your comedy! Brilliant!
sat here giggling watching it, I have had some great teachers over the years but can see a bit of all of them in this list lol
Van Eyck with the beatboxing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The #8 Backseat Driver is every singing teacher and every choral conductor, ever.
I’m definitely the backseat driver 😂😂😂 but a little.... less!
Apparently, according to my students and my daughters I am the backseat drivers.
Oh, don't forget the story-tellers! Those are the O.G. Who had an elite career.
Ohhh yes that’s true! I had one professor who was an AMAZING storyteller, and we’d just sit there like 😮😍 hearing all of their anazing tales!
I'm really sad that my teacher said "we don't need recorders on the orchestra"
Like, you haven't even tried and I own an alto, a tenor and a soprano. Nobody can tell me that range is completely useless.
Looks like one of the funnest videos you've made. 😂
Love your channel. Keep up the good work
How did i miss this video!? You made my might! :D Whiplash guy was awesome :D
I’m not even a music teacher until September and I love these videos. What am I becoming!?
I have had several of those teachers. LOL I sing and have played clarinet, accordion, piano and recorder, so have had a variety of teachers
Love the beatboxing it’s #cool

My teacher changes his type every week. He's the best😂
Is she a woman?
When my flute teacher told me I was doing amazing and I was genuinely off key due to a not fully adhered head joint 😂. Played flat for quite a bit
You guys are so cute together

First piece what is it caled i need it........
What a HOOT!
Real-life 7 and 8 made me so discouraged that I quit lessons and have been afraid to look for a new teacher so I try to fumble along by myself.
I think different student personalities require different approaches bringing out either the best or the worst in me.
What was the piece played by the guy in #Cool the 4th one?
I have only had 2, 5 and 7. I then went on to just learn in my own time by myself.
2:33 holy wow 😂 love it

She's also my metronome 😂
I have/had only 1 teacher before and its for trumpet i tech recorder for myself
KKKKKKKKK love it
when is your next music comin out?
I had the perfectionist, backseat driver, and disciplinary ones. I also had one who did not want to teach 😂
My music teacher is the disciplinarian/backseat driver😂
You guys are so cute I can't handle it ahhh
#3. The encourager: Got to watch out for that one.
Sorry can you teach me how to write down words in recorder flute note
My teacher is definitely the backseat driver 😂😂😂
What are the names of the atempted played pieces please?
Terrific 🤣🤣🤣
Your both great together, need to put John in more of your videos.
You guys would be considered the 'cool but still edjukecasehinal' teachers which i find to be the best out of em' all..2 apples for the both of you!
Mmmm. Well, I think I need a good teacher from internet in RUclips...yes!
Gracias por los subtítulos, disfruté mucho el video...
There’s also the talker. The teacher who will talk and chat through the entire lesson. And not necessarily about your lesson.
Definitely had number 2, 3 and 6 in one person as well as 5 :D
sarah please make a review of the yamaha yrf-21 the recorder fife pleeeease pleeeease!!
Oh my gosh I laughed so much :)
🤣 you are so gorgeous 😘 best parents for Bodil and best teachers.
