My mom and dad came to every one of my concerts: band, jazz band, everything. They let me practice at home on my loud trumpet, rarely complained. Supported me 100%. Years later, my dad told me, "you know, we always hated those concerts!" We both had a big laugh over that. The important thing was, they were THERE. Fuck! this is my MOTHER!
My mom is the non-musician “expert” and it’s sooo annoying. I play cello, and she played flute in high school for two years and thinks she knows everything. They aren’t even the same type of instrument!
Mom #1 ---> It's been 4 years and she still calls my cello the violin.
Caitlin Lian RIGHT my dad and grandma calls my clarinet the big flute
Ur mom is half right a cello is a type of violin fun fact. That's why some call it violoncello. Lol
Caitlin Lian I feel u
oh damn, didn't think of that lmao
My mum used to play the piano, so she calls instruments what they are. However, my grandparents... Well, they're not musicians. They call my cello the viola (wtf) or double bass and my ukulele is balalaika or mandolin for them.
i’m a piano teacher and i’ve had parents that are ALL these types and more. the worst is the parents that don’t care at all or the ones that force their 5 yr old kid to practice for a long time every day until it’s perfect.
My mom was "don't care" and "piano must be a hobby" (= you don't have to practice, because practice is boring, and a hobby is fun). So, I played piano 8 years... And at the end, I just could play "für Elise". Damned. After 15 years without playing, I want to learn again, but with dedication thist time.
But, still, that's better than the parents "you have to practice 40 hours a day".
nah my parents were better i started at 4 studyn 20 minutes a day but then i arrived 8-9-10 and they were 40 minutes and at 11 1 hour and 12 1 and a half hour lmao
Grenade 8 years and you could only play a piece for beginners?! Yikes
Valeria Loja I know. He wrote the song with Elise in mind thinking she would learn it. He made the piece for somebody who doesn’t play piano, then he made the second part to be a dick. That piece isn’t hard at all, it was made extremely easy on purpose, and it isn’t impressive in the slightest. Every pianist hates that song, only beginners think it’s hard.
Valeria Loja Correction: I shouldnt say hate. I hate the song, other pianists agree that it is over played and we want to smash our head into a wall when s beginner says “i CaN pLaY” And plays Fur Elise, the first few notes, right hand only (with both hands omfg) in hopes of impressing a musician. The song is beautiful but it’s like eating your favorite food to the point where even the memory of it makes you sick.

When your mom is the musician mom and correct your, “mistakes,” but when you go to class and the teacher says it’s wrong: 👁👄👁
What's difficult in that case is that your mom may be correct and the teacher wrong. My brother had that, one time. Our dear piano teacher moved and we had to find another one. We hadn't any luck with the new one we found : she played favorites and my brother wasn't one. She told him to play Chopin like a metronome for the exam. Our mother told him : "Don't". He didn't and instead put feelings in his play. The teacher sabotaged his result because he didn't do as he was told, then told him "Savour your result". Next year, we changed both for a new teacher and never had any problem anymore.
@@sianaDIAX that’s really messed up

@@canalfelixiano9411 Yeah, thanks. That teacher became our family's meme for each time we spoke about someone messed up in the head. My parents were quite angry at the time and they put extra efforts to find the best teachers we could dream. So, in a way, thanks to her. xD

So relatable though XD

Not really relatable to me. :P
Both my parents are musicians but when it comes to practice it's the other way around. I always correct them because I'm fresh and young and still care, and they got 30+ years of experience and always say "it'll work out somehow when I'm on stage" 😂😂 (it does actually, what really confuses me... Maybe they're right not to practice properly...)
“Every time ur notes is out of tune, it’s like making mistakes in surgery.”

I have been playing viola for three years, and my mom said, “I’m glad I got you that violin!”
Prisma Noir :/
Oof depression man
Static Truths what's the difference between viola and violin? Viola has no 'in' but has an 'a' and Violin has an in?
Static Truths perish
Static Truths tbh playing the viola and violin are the same?? All you have to do is learn a new clef and BAM! I rented a violin for the summer from my school and playing it is the same as the Viola pretty much except no C string and there’s an E string.
Prisma Noir omg I feel this on a spiritual level
And there is my grand mother
"The c was out of tune"
"But I didn't play any c"
Leonardo C. Truda same

Leonardo C. Truda 😂😂😂.
"But I'm playing piano"

My mum is an ex-professional cellist who is basically one of those people who just 'gets it'. Not prodigy level, but I'd wager she wasn't that far off. It's great because she got me into playing violin early, but also hell because now I'm a bit older she's essentially sucked the joy out of playing around her. I can't practice in the house anymore unless she's out or teaching because it stresses me out so much. I'll admit it's really affected my practicing (I practice in school when I can i.e. not often) and she basically thinks I've stopped playing and so constantly brings it up. It ain't fun because I do genuinely love playing the violin and music in general, but she doesn't understand I can't 'get it' immediately at the same speed or in the same capacity that she could/can.
Have you tried telling her that? That you love music but can't practice around her because it's too stressful and that you are not her? Also you can try explaining that every human being learns through making mistakes, mistakes are part of learning process.
I'd sing with my dad at home(non classical. Just wanted it to be pretty) and he would always find something wrong and asked to repeat so i would practise too long, forcing myself to sound like someone from the youtube clip that he likes. My throat started closing in front of him in my teen years and i can't sing before him since then. I also have an anxiety about singing generally becouse of this. I love singing and i sing in tune but it sounds coarse and i guess not as plesant. I hope that people woldn't be so mean to others. We don't have to be all the opera singer or violin prodigy at the age of 9.
My mum encouraged me to play in groups, an orchestra and ensembles but never actually turned up to any of my shows when i was in secondary and sixth form - not even when i was concertmaster or a senior student soloist. I even offered to buy the tickets and get her really good seats and everything but she never turned up. I was always that one kid who waited after the concert to be picked up after everyone else had gone home with their parents who had been watching them play.
My tutor and one of the art teachers ended up watching me play Handel’s ‘Messiah’ in the local abbey and managed to get reserved seats for one of the school concerts where i had 2 solos because they knew my mum wasn’t coming and it was super sad but also super sweet.
damn
I’m sorry man.. you seem to have great teachers. I would listen to you play! You’re not alone. Sending hugs 🙏🏼
my mom usually asks me if its worth coming and i usually say no for school concerts lol
Hit me up. I'll fight your mom. No but seriously I feel really bad. I hope one day she will start to appreciate your talents and will atleast try to come to a convert. Good luck
itnoy wish I could do that but my mom comes all the time (which is nice but also no please) and she would probably get mad at me if I said no
Musician Mom: *Your orchestra teacher but hardcore.*
AG camcrush The one you can’t escape from
Another problem is that my mum is always listening and is not scared to share her thought s
At least you get immediate advice and help. For those of us who don't have musician parents, we just keep making mistakes while we practice. Eventually a mistake can become an ingrained bad habit that you have to work on to change... Also sometimes when I practice I get confused or forget what my teacher said and I just get frustrated and then I wish I had someone nearby to ask for help.
Kate Schmid I personally am glad I don’t have a musician mother because then I would have to constantly nagging me and it would feel like you’re their shadow.
Musician mom help u saves money because she replace your extra classes anywhere ANYTIME
I think the number one thing, no matter how expert or crap you are at an instrument, we all still fear child prodigy’s in our sleep.
Yes especially when your school has the state’s best orchestra
우유파인애플 Are you from Plano or something?

My family is 100% indifferent to my 8 years of violin playing 💀 but the whole family jumps at their feet at my cousin's cheerleading. *dies a little inside*
Aw it's okay, all musicians here commend you❤️
My family used to do that with my brother's soccer. Then I got good and won a couple awards. Now they support me.
I'm still jealous of you. My parents aren't just indifferent, they literally find all music irritating. Doesn't matter what genre of music, doesn't matter if I'm playing music or listening to it. I wish they were only indifferent.
Ur profile matches ur comment btw feel u
Emily T. I win awards all the time but I feel like since they dont understand all the hardwork and stress that goes hand in hand with playing the violin then they wont understand

In the hospital:The obvious mom: IS IT AN VIOLIN OR A CELLO?!?
It’s a viola
I cannot judge if they are great musicians but they are definitely great actors 🤣
They are professional classic violinists
Karen K lol they are pros but they say some subscribers are surprised to find out in concerts that they can actually play quite well...I guess it’s because their videos are so lighthearted all the time.
Brett at 4:50 is so perfectly uncomfortable
You can see Brett's diplomas and certificates on the wall and in another video he has like a hundred trophies on a table behind him. So yeah, they are great musicians.
My mom used to record my lessons, all 45 minutes, once a week, every week. And then she'd go through it at home, pick out the important stuff, and sit in on my practices to remind me every two seconds. That's what you call dedication.
Bro I’m sorry.
I’d honestly be scarred
Idk about the reminding every two seconds but I wish my parents would do this for me too. I really want to get better at violin but I basically only have one lesson every week.
Lol, good thing your mum wasnt secretly recording it, picking out the worst parts and sending it to your teacher, hehehe
Thats dedication
Brett: plays viola
The viola: sounds actually good

Violinists can play the viola better than violists.
The viola is actually a lovely instrument. I don’t get why they hate on it so much
@@gabe_itch24 when someone asks you: “what’s a viola”
You say: “it’s shit”
@@gabe_itch24 There is not really a reason, it’s just a joke here. I do enjoy how the viola sounds, though.
I hadn't seen that one until now. Hahahaa, nailed it! 😁 Thank you guys for the smiles you bring to our faces, the best duo!
You’re forgetting the mom that compliments all your friends and shows you child prodigies on your instrument without realizing how much it hits
Miss Unicorn 2 YESSSSSS. ESPECIALLY IF THE LING LINGS ARE YOUNGER THAN U AND U HABE TO TAKE THE WALK OF SHAME BACK TO UR ROOM AND SILENTLY CRY 😂
These are the qualities of the guilt trip mom (say this to the tune of these are the qualities of mulan)
Actually this is my father 😅
Ya my dad shows me a bunch a videos on RUclips of prodigies. But I've already seen all of them, so its not so bad
What about the mom that much rather you become a doctor or lawyer?
Yeppppp that's my mom

I think it’s easy to be both. My parents encourage both, but they mostly tell me to foLLow yOur dReams. But, you can apply for a small act at events (so you can follow your passion) and study for what your parents think you should be. Overall though, I think it’s best to just follow your dreams
"This time I SICHUAN YOUR PEPPER AND MAPO YOUR TOFU"
-Tiger Mom
What does it mean 😂
@@tam199733
Sichuan pepper and Mapo Tofu are eastern dishes that are spicy. The words sichuan and mapo are words for spiciness seasoning(although sichuan im not sure but i think it means a spiciness too) so basically she said she will spice up "her" "son`s" playing of the violin.
