Got the Phil Jones one straight away, only because I can't ever forget his debut and he anhillated Drogba that game. Was such a good player and totally deserved his Utd move, such a shame he never went further. Great pod again and thanks for giving us these
Cheers Ash, best ever Rovers league debut? Certainly can’t think of a better one by a youth player
Definately not one from a youth player, no. He was immense he was. Hope he does go into management next@@MarkHitchen86
Another great 90 mins of chat
Cheers pal!!!
"In the words of Amy Winehouse" I thought deserved a laugh 44:13
😂😂😂 glad someone noticed!
Hahaha I missed that!
The fact that there is so much scratching of heads when it comes to picking a team is one of the reasons we are very average, teams In real contention for promotion stick for the most part with the same eleven when possible and the same way of playing, I agree with an earlier comment we lack height and physicalaty throughout the team but I think I trust JE to rectify this over time, great podcast by the way 👍
Cheers Roadie, I agree with this!
Totally agree with Mark about Weimann, I don't see him as a regular starter - start the odd game but on the whole bring his experience to the group and come on to see games out. I know you are a big fan of Pickering and defended him in relation to illness but I just think his lack of physicality and pace cause us a big issue against the more physical attacking lines and then we end up sitting too deep. I would like to see Siggy get a run of games in the team, cutting inside with Beck on the overlap. It seems like Beck has the pace and stamina to get up and down the pitch, which was showcased by his 2 assists for the U21.
If we are playing 2 sitting / holding defensive midfielders it is crucial that the full backs can be expansive at times and get up and down the pitch to make the system work. One of the sitting midfielders can cover the attacking full back on the transition if required but we need the full backs to assist in the attacks. Otherwise we would require a different centre midfield setup. I think we will pick back up when Brittain and Beck return, then Carter can move back to CB where his pace is needed. Potentially put Carter at RB for games where the opposition have aerial attacking threat and like to play long balls.
Some great points 👏🏻
I honestly feel we lack physicality in the team. Most teams are bigger than us and just bully us on the pitch. Very frustrating 2 games. We didn't turn up.
Are Pape and Ohashi not allowed to be on the pitch at the same time?? I still think they would play brilliantly off of each other, with Pape's hold up play and occupying both CB's, and then Ohashi's movement and finishing, they could run defenses ragged, and then we'll always be able to bring on Weimann or Dolan, or Leonard, since he'll be back soon.
You would think so wouldn’t you! Wish he’d give them a go!
Not just saying this due to the result, more I didn't want to burst people's bubbles before but I've not been anywhere near as impressed with Makhtar Gueye as everyone else seems to have been since day one. He's a striker who can't strike the ball and his finishing has been woeful. Great link up play but he's supposed to be a number 9, not an attacking midfielder. Unlike Ohashi, who I always feel will at least make the keeper work when he gets half a chance, I have no confidence when Gueye is bearing down on goal that he'll even get it on target.
he looked confident on the offside goal he scored
He hasnt connect with the ball properly yet, hope he comes good for us though
@@mcollier007 Can't judge that, the keeper stopped playing
Gueye isn't good enough, period. Seems a top fella, great to be around but his touch is awful. I do agree we aren't playing to his strengths, but do his team mates trust him? They see him in training and I don't think they do. Hyam isn't a right back, so can't wait to see Beck and Brittain back. I think Eustace needs another window before he can get a proper side together. On the up side, we never beat Coventry or Plymouth so its a gimme for them!
I dont get the whole illness in squad thing. Ive not been ill for 30 years and Im not a pro footballer. Crushing on the soul these two defeats but wasn't a surprise as its Cov away and Plymouth away - the only other ground we get crucified every time is Bristol City
I'm thinking Phil Jones. Somet about facing Drogba rings a bell......
👏🏻
Try and hold out for 60 minutes, then mix it up and have a go. Says it all really. Fair result at Plymouth, got nothing and deserved nowt. Needs to think about mixing it up a bit, while weve got a half decent bench. Not naming names, but some players seem nailed on when they nowhere near should be.
Phil Jones, played a blinder
👏🏻
Mark your team was on the money apart from Hedges...surely Dubarry plays there. Siggy has barely played enough games for us. He's scored 7 for us already in 38 appearances. Compared to the chances Hedges /Dolan have had. Not sure why all the fans are so critical of him.
Didn't Phil Jones have a blinder against Drogba?
WHEY!! 😁
👏🏻
