  • Cotton plays a key role in the economy, international trade and the fight against poverty. For more than a decade, the +Cotton project, part of the Brazil-FAO International Cooperation Program, has strengthened the cotton value chain and supported women farmers in Latin America.
In October 2023, Brasilia hosted the "Latin America dresses in cotton" fashion show, which presented the first collection of Latin American cotton garments, in collaboration with rural artisans from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, bringing their stories and traditions to life. This initiative celebrates the cultural, social and environmental importance of cotton, showcasing its potential for sustainable fashion and empowering communities across the region.
This video presents a summary of the launch of the collection and the work developed by the Brazilian government and FAO to strengthen the cotton sector in the region.
