- The capstone project, aimed at revolutionizing Edison Motors' transition into production.
Edison Motors, a privately owned Canadian tech company, manufactures electric and diesel-electric hybrid semi-trucks, focusing on heavy-duty industries like logging and construction. Founded by Chase Barber and Eric Little, Edison Motors has gained a significant following on social media for their innovative approach to clean tech.
Project Overview:
Edison Motors had completed their proof of concept, but faced challenges in tracking thousands of parts used in building pre-production trucks. Their workflows were primarily based on paper and Excel spreadsheets, leading to inefficiencies and disorganization.
Our Solution:
Our goal was to create a cohesive system to track and manage production information. Over four semesters, we planned the project, collaborated with Edison Motors, and developed a web application to centralize data management. Key features include:
* Client and Internal User Interfaces: Buyers can configure trucks based on their needs and submit builds. Internal staff can manage these builds, track parts, and upload inspection sheets.
* Time Management System: Helps Edison Motors manage tasks efficiently, ensuring timely completion of builds.
* Sales Funnel: We developed a website to attract potential buyers, featuring a truck configurator inspired by industry leaders like Tesla and Lucid Motors.
Development Process:
We engaged with the Edison Motors team through structured interviews and workshops to understand their daily challenges. Regular meetings ensured our updates reflected their input, building a strong partnership. We also researched industry standards to design a contemporary and sophisticated website.
Project Features:
* Centralized Data Management: Employees can store and access information digitally, eliminating paper-based inefficiencies.
* Build Dashboard: Allows technicians to track parts and update build statuses.
* Inspection Sheets: Securely stores inspection sheets for legal and quality assurance purposes.
*
Lessons Learned:
* Project Management: Utilizing agile methodologies, we divided tasks based on individual skills.
* Client Collaboration: Regular communication with Edison Motors ensured the project met their needs.
* UX Design: We focused on creating a user-friendly interface for both internal and external users.
* Teamwork: Working together, we overcame challenges and developed a comprehensive solution.
Future Plans:
* Messaging System: Implementing a communication feature similar to Discord for customer interactions.
* Financial Tracking: Adding features to manage orders and finances efficiently.
* Issue Tracking: Integrating a board for specific build issues.

You're making the world a better place, one truck at a time!!! Keep up the good work Edison Motors!
Nicely done in taking the tech to the next logical level. What got you here won’t get you where you’re going.
With all due respect...I hope you're wrong.
This software could easily become too complex if not careful. You do not want to make it easy for customers to select many options, imho. Edison does not have a selling problem (many customers wish to buy now), but most definitely must figure out how to quickly get truck & pickup truck kits out the door.
You have just built Topsy in a tent. It's better, and definitely more repairable, than competitor trucks built by billion dollar corporations. Elon Musk added another Model 3 assembly line housed in a "sprung structure” (a tent), because they were running out of money and needed to get cars quickly produced.
It was concerning to hear the term "one or two years". Seems to me that thinking should be in terms of "months".
Having said that, very impressive software. Going forward, emphasis should be on basics: tracking costs, parts, etc. (For example, every part is either purchase, make in-house, or sub-contract out for someone else to make. MRP=Material Requirement Prediction should be included but optional to use.) Guard against adding features; simplify whenever possible.
That is really nice! The order tag is the truck tag during the assembling process!
Great thinking there!
As soon as the "basic" truck is stablished and all parts listed, the add ons will be like the extra cheese on a pizza!
NOICE!
Yes, good points.
Its beautiful. The most amazing semi truck ever.❤️
I think one of these would make a great RV platform
Sounds like the 250 series
My thoughts exactly regarding this truck being a great rv platform. What'll be amazing if they started offering a CoE [Cab over engine] option.
When parked the generator would only need to run about 30 minutes every other day, maybe once a day with AC running.
Quiet Operation a bulk of the time
11:24 - 13:45 YES!!! You're launching a configurator Edison Motors! I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!
It's great that manufacturing process efficiency has been thought out to integrate with the web site.
The breadth of talent pool is great to see.
Love the concept for the website. Can't wait for it to be live!
This is awesome. It will be hard to maintain. I remember my capstone project and shudder a bit. That said it'll likely get you what you need until you can afford the next step.
Amazing young talent 👏
Great to see you involve Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in building your website.
This is awesome! Not going to lie the “Uhh..” was driving me crazy though.
How odd it is that in history, Edison was on the wrong side while Tesla had it right. Now, Tesla is the dark overlord and Edison is the brilliant underdog!
I wish I could work for Edison I'm 19 just starting out in life and this is exactly what I want to do in life I love cars and trucks and this is definitely the future
You can talk about it, or you can do it, your choice.
@@truckjamm I live in Florida and there in Canada so it's going to be a trip for me
@@bubbaslock143 Like I said, you can talk about it or you can do it, living in Florida is just an excuse for being a mediocre man. At 19 you are too young to fall into that trap.
Yep managing supply chain can't be overstated for success.
nice work!
Will it be open source? I'm pretty sure at least some of your viewers would love to help improve it here and there.
gday guys! been subed to you since your first download, loved the way you used logic to addapt to the corporate way of thinking! well done guys! ;-)
Good job!.... When can we buy shares?
Yesterday I asked if you had considered building fire trucks. Today I saw one on Leno's channel. As a frmer fire fighter I was underwhelmed.
Rollin Rollin Rollin....
Ayyyyyyy
Also, please don't re-invent the wheel and for (voice|video) chat just integrate Jitsi into the website!
Edison Motors needs to partner with Monroe and Associates
I believe they met in a RUclips vid
😎❗️👍
When is the firetruck coming.
Why not bcit .why alberta? Thought you were bc guys?
@3:05 there is a voice overlap making it sound garbled
Yea, the audio is horrible, They filmed and recorded that themselves. Thats all I had to work with.

@@EdisonMotorsSubtitles would really help with that part
Saying Excel is messy (whiteboard builds are unwieldy), that is a bit of IT snobbery - any DB can start with CSV data to start analysis...
Ah man, no more exposing politicians
Don't play music over the narration.
Well done! (tall sick bro should be wearing a mask, tho, don't need this to be a superspreader event. lol)
When are you moving to China? You talk it up soooo much lol.
Yeah right you picked this up in China last trip ...45 bucks
Ahh ... a pithy and insightful comment from a basement-dwelling Neanderthal! How delightful!

This hybrid conversion technology would be essentail for California's ev mandates. There is no way in hell CA can meet green goals. This tech would help suffering business convert good used equipment recycling and using epa certified cat generators works. Problem, they are crooked as a dogs hind leg.
