      Thank you so much! I always look forward to weekends, coffee in hand, and catching up on Evelyn's videos. I love watching how you interact with your girls.
      Ezri, in particular, is so entertaining. I saw one video where, despite Mom being busy, Ezri kept trying to get Mom's attention with a ball-first putting it on the table, then placing it right next to Mom's hand. When that didn’t work, Ezri just picked up the ball and decided to go find Lela instead.

    My Arabian Night dahlias kept blooming in the heat wave. Wizard of OZ dahlias also bloomed.

    • @EvelynM-vlogs
      @EvelynM-vlogs  21 день назад +1

      That's good to know about the Arabian Nights. Mine were the first to bloom, and then they stopped while we had our heat wave, and now that the heat wave is over, they are starting to bloom again. It is the first year for me to grow them and I do believe the tubers are affected by the growing conditions they had the previous year. They may have grown in a much shadier spot and therefore, for this year were not used to the full sun of my beds. Based on your results, they should bloom better for me in the heat next year!

    Another nice review. We are having a couple of rainy days too, the sun just started to peek back out this afternoon.
    I'm still waiting for my first cafe-au-lait, so may wind up agreeing with your assessment. Tartan is earlier and sells bouquets, but I don't love its look. On mine, the outer petals sweep backwards while the center is still fairly tight. Once the center petals open a bit more, the outer petals no longer look great. Will try a labyrinth or two next year, yours look gorgeous, and the brighter colors always fly off my roadside stand. I have a few whose names I don't know (hand-me-downs).

      @EvelynM-vlogs  22 дня назад

      Do you have several Tartans and do they all do that? If it's just one, maybe it's just that tuber strain? It was really nice today, but rain again tonight. Try using google image to identify your unknowns, I have figured out a few that way.

Click on images and on the page that opens up, hover your image over the elongated oval and a large area will open up for you to drop the image into. That's it. Google will open your image on the left and have a series of images on the right that may or may not be a match.
      I have found that Tartan is not a dahlia that looks the same from plant to plant. Some are way more purple, others are way more white. Strangely Yarra Falls is the same.

    Thank you for your infos! I live in Texas and the heat is really torture to my dahlias.
    BTW, what type of Marjoram do you use and where do I get the seeds?
    Thank you.

    • @EvelynM-vlogs
      @EvelynM-vlogs  17 дней назад

      I can only imagine what it is like to be in Texas heat, but it is dry heat, so there's that. The Marjoram I use I have had for decades and can't remember what it is. The white marjoram in my garden showed up probably via a bird. As to where you can buy the seeds in the states, I don't know, I am in Canada. I did do a quick search for purple marjoram seeds on google and there does appear to be quite a few sellers on Etsy.

    Where do you buy your tubers

    • @EvelynM-vlogs
      @EvelynM-vlogs  20 дней назад +1

      There are three places I buy tubers. I am fortunate to live in an area with several large dahlia farms. Originally I bought from Ferncliffe Gardens, a large dahlia farm in Mission, BC. They where easy to pick up my tubers from when my parents were alive but the trip is a bit too far for me now, what with the long ferry ride to the mainland. Their tubers are absolutely 10 out of 10 and they have harder to find tubers as well.
      The second place I buy from is called Warwick Flowers, they are down island from me about 45 minutes, in Black Creek. They, too, have really good tubers and ones that are hard to find.
      Thirdly is from my wholesaler, which is called Van Noort, but of course with them, minimum quantities of 8 each are required and a total order of over $500 is also required. They do have a retail name of Florissa.

      New subscriber here. Love your channel. Here in SoCal USA 9b, we’ve had weeks of 100 - 105 temps. The following dahlias have survived and thrived with the help of 40% shade cloth: Kelvin Floodlight. Arabian Night. Linda’s Baby. Wizard of Oz. Thomas Edison. Cornel. I water sometimes twice a day and fertilize with Morbloom every other week. Dahlias are so addicting. I’ve had great success with tubers from Swan Island Dahlias in Canby, Oregon.

      @@monicamacauley3750 My Thomas Edison only just started blooming now that the heat wave is over, but no shade cloth for them. We, too, will water twice a day when it gets over 80. When it gets over 90 sometimes we water 3x a day, although not this year. The only fertilizing I do is to dig a narrow trench between my dahlias and fill it with plant debris. I can make it through all the beds over the course of the dahlia season. They respond really well to this technique.
