Bro do not apologise about dropping elo. If im honest I enjoy the struggles of this journey because it makes it feel real and easy to relate to with my own learning.
@@ChannelMerz next video, back to 1700! Haha, yes I need to remember that it's a bumpy journey, I'll try not to focus on the rating as much! Thanks for sticking with me through it!!
Hey Owen. Could you make a short video about your life? What were you doing in South Korea? Tell us about your work as a math teacher. How do you like the weather in Arizona?
@@Alex-rw2gy I'd like to make more personal content, but I don't think it's what people are subbed for, but I was considering doing something for a channel trailer at some point as I don't have one. IDK... I do talk about all this stuff when I stream though if you ever catch a stream you can always ask me questions, I should be streaming a good bit over the Christmas break. To answer those questions now though, I was teaching English in sk, I've only been teaching maths for about a year, it's fun, the weather is pretty great here overall but I am not a fan of the dessert and lack of green
1:02 Ne7 doesn't look right. It takes away Bd6 and is just a less active square for the knight. tbh even at 0:40, I was expecting Bg4 immediately because at least the LSB gets a spot (which to me, is the point of playing caro instead of french) 15:33 we're in a jobava london, you can play Nb5! which is lucky because you didn't play 3.e4 transposing into the french. 42:05 lmao terrible defense from black, you deserved that win to punish him. but even here 32:30 you're probably very comfortable because it's your opening
39:10 you had a nice tactic Bxh7+ Kxh7 Qb1+ forking Kg8 Qxb4 and you're up a pawn. whether or not you (or i) can convert from here is a different story hahaha. but still, very cool tactic as suggested by the arrow on the small screen
@@dercie great anaylsis dercie. yes, most of these things I agree with, I guess the only one I am not a big of a fan of was you suggesting Nb5, I think I just don't like it until his C pawn or his N on c8 have moved, if ever those two things have happened then I generally stay away from it, it just seems rather like a waste of time. idk, rest of your anaylsis I couldn't agree more. Well said
@@Blunder_Man i love Nb5! to me, it's the reason you play Nc3 in the first place. it's more "theoretical" compared to "just setting up our pieces", but it's fun and completely sound. if i could guarantee Black playing d5 Nf6 and e6, i would play the jobava london all the time there are only 3 responses from Black that prevent the fork: 4... Na6 5. e3 c6 6. Nc3 and we're hoping to play Bxa6 to ruin the structure. If 6... Nc7 then Nf3 and continue setting up. I'm sure most players as Black aren't familiar with how to play with Nc7 4... Bd6 5. Nxd6+ cxd6 6. e3 and we have the bishop pair and a better pawn structure. I'm sure most players as Black aren't familiar with how to play from here 4... Bb4+ 5. c3 Ba5 6. a4 and we have a sharp but equal position where Black is probably unfamiliar and has to think. The White player has (probably) seen this numerous times. 6... c6 is already bad because Nd6+ revokes castling rights
Yeah... Honestly not a fan of any of these lines. Especially bd6. I played this against my dad, and remember the engine telling me that black has an advantage even though I have the bishop pair. I just like going for thematic stuff that I am familiar with, and I'd rather play through the center and avoid all Nb5 things unless they've already committed to a few bad moves. I think I can get very nice games when they push the c pawn and I can leave my knight sitting on B5 being a pain for them. But yeah, I appreciate your insight, def got my cogs turning, you have a lot of expertise that I think I don't have yet, but yeah...
I am just glad that you are a chess player, and not a pilot, because of the rook can go back :) This was just a joke, keep up, watching you all the way to 2000. You Can do this
@@Blunder_Man when I got to 2000, I hit my peak of 2084. Then over the next six months I dropped back down to 1950, just reached 2105 the other night. Ups and downs are part of improvement brother❤
The bittersweet thing about hitting a plateau is that there you can acquire and test the skills required for the next level. At 1900 level, most players know their openings well enough and can't be tricked so easily anymore. Yes, some of them fall for the Greek gift, but usually a much more nuanced attacking regime is required to beat them. Building such a regime up should be pretty easy for you, as you are already a strong attacking player.
you're getting in your head a bit, you can play much better than this for sure. What always helps me is to take a break from chess and come back fresh-I always play much better. I know your doing daily vids so maybe less games and more puzzles?
We don't watch you to see you win all the games; if we wanted that, we would watch Hikaru. Just upload all ur games; it's all content. The whole point of the channel is to watch an average person play chess just like us and we relate to that.
