On behalf of our entire team, today we wish to pay tribute to Pastor James McConnell. We never dreamed when we started the Sunday Service Series for what then looked like a three-week COVID lockdown in March 2020. That lockdown would continue, and so began Pastor McConnell's sermon series. We had no idea then the battle with illness he would shortly enter into and finally his passing on the 17th of July 2021. On behalf of the team at APS Gospel, We continue to remember the entire McConnell family circle, and we'd ask that you continue to pray for them.
Last month saw the first graduates from the Shepherd's Academy at the Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle, and we couldn't help our minds go back to the Shepherd who started the Whitewell Church with the Lord's anointing and help, his King James Version Bible, and a hymn book. Pastor McConnell thought that perhaps ten people would show up on the cold, snowy February morning in 1957. But twenty-two arrived that first morning to hear the boy preacher that the Lord was about to use in a mighty way. Going to and growing out of building after building. With the vision of the Lord, the current building, at a cost of seven and a half million pounds, was put up by the people for the people to see even more souls saved for the Kingdom of God. What a blessing from the Lord we saw under His ministry, with many times over 30 souls being saved in a single meeting as 3500 were crushed into the building, many coming from all over Northern Ireland, with visitors from Southern Ireland and further afield. Today we remember a man who loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart and desired all his days that others would come to know and serve his Saviour and friend as he knew and served Him.
Quite a few men, even in ministry, owe so much to the faithful service and preaching of Pastor James McConnell. Some will say that today's history is history; it's the future. That is important, and we should forget the past and focus solely and only on the now so we don't get left behind with every new thing entering the church today. But if the Lord himself remembered His servants like Noah, John, Abraham, and so on, and even Paul could say of the oversight of the church in Philippians 1:3 King James Version (KJV) I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Then I believe we too should at the very least pause to remember those who have laboured before us for the Lord and to learn from the wisdom they had in serving the Lord. If we neglect to learn from those who saw The Lord Jesus Christ at work in their lives, Church and Community we will be the poorer for it. This very outreach may not have even begun had it not been for the faithful witness and example that Pastor James McConnell was. I was saved under his ministry on the 4th of August 1996, which was the last Sunday service we put out just before his passing. I was very blessed to sit under his ministry even after his retirement in 2014, as he continued to preach throughout lockdown and win souls for the kingdom of God. We trust the life of Pastor James McConnell would perhaps even inspire some Christians who have perhaps done nothing yet for the Lord. To get alone with God till they have the anointing of the Lord first and then seek the leading and guiding of the Lord Jesus Christ as Pastor James McConnell did each day. That you too would follow the Lord Jesus Christ's command in Mark 16:15 King James Version (KJV)
