Take a boat tour to St.Naum on the south part of lake there is very nice monastery and the crystal clear spring that flows into lake. St.Naum is a must see place for all Ohrid tourists. Enjoy

Ohrid has 365 churches. Same as the days of the year. But there are also mosques, because it is a multiethnic city. Because they come wild and drive the tame.

If you want to do it the easy way you take a taxi to Samuel's fortress and you can easily walk down the cliff to the old town enjoing the beautiful views 😂😂😂. Ohrid and Bitola are the two places I really enjoy in North Macedonia.

well they did vandalise the frescos and gouge the eyes of the saints you see painted in the first half of the video
@@dacho707 Not sure it was the Ottomans who did that. Within the Christian religion there was a dispute about the use of icons and images. The iconoclasts wanted to remove all images of Jesus, Mary and saints.

They destroyed a lot of them and converted them into mosques, burned whole monasteries with monks inside. There was much more than there is now.
@Anonymous mongols and romans were tolerant of different cultures, the turks made lots of churches into mosques and destroyed lots of them during the conquest.

It really is beautiful, just shows that Balkans have such rich history as well beautiful places to visit. The Balkans will always be the heart of Europe, even if its countries through politics is so bad.
This is the place of st clement, who developed the slavic alphabet. Greatest place for all south slavs.

Despite all the tragedy surrounding the pandemic, it is nice that you've landed in the Balkans, and have been able to really explore it and share the experiences more in-depth than maybe in the past with other places. Despite the criticism you mentioned getting early on, you're much better off there than in CA watching it burn (which is very heartbreaking when you know people who've lost their homes). Stay safe, and travel on!

I actually forgot about the boardwalk, how's that possible, it's so cool
not to spoil your first impression there but although the water LOOKS clean and crystal clear there are only a few places where I would sign up on that (like perhaps the crn drim springs at Sveti Naum where Lake Ohrid is fed with fresh water coming from lake Prespa through the ground). Anything near the city of Ohrid or Struga, you can't speak of clean water. I also spoke to a german biologist who took samples for bacterial analysis a few years ago and he confirmed what I already knew. Perhaps with less tourism in 2020 the lake might have recovered a bit, of course. But hey, as long as it looks nice...and I certainly miss my morning and night walks there...
@@losangelos i suppose you're right. When we went around the springs at Sveti Naum, i even drank handfuls of the water... wouldn't do that anywhere else, definitely!
@@elineeugenie5224 considering they store some strange barrels behind the springs (behind the fence on the lawn) I would not drink any water there, lol. Fun fact, in OH I usually buy water at the pharmacy that allegedly comes directly from the White Mountains of Crete, filled into BPA-free plastic bottles (never lose faith).
@@losangelos what the hell are you talking about? The water at the springs is 1000% natural, drinkable the freshest water ever. Lake is the cleanest ever only a few spots u should avoid cause theres sewage going in. Please stop this. Ohrid Lake is a real GEM.
@@devkodevko8389 one of us talked to a german marine biologist (or whatever his profession) who took many samples everywhere. Of course, his worst results were in the stari grad / struga area. There's nothing for me to stop. But I can also make a video of all the trash that noone ever pulled out of the water (pre 2020). Regarding the springs is just my personal observation and opinion. And again: just b/c something looks clean doesn't mean it is. pozdrav
This land was conquered from so many empires and countries through the years. Roman empire, Ottoman empire, WW1,WW2, many outrageous murders to this people it's miracle that's still exist. Thank you Gabrielle for showing us this beautiful ❤️ town.

Excellent job my friend! Ohrid is the birthplace of Christianity in Europe. Was brought to Ohrid from Syria. Some churches there date some 300 years before the romans recognized the Christianity. Some frescoes in Ohrid recognize renaissance again some 200-300 years before the renaissance showed in for first time in Italy. The first person to be baptized on European soil was also believed to be in Ohrid, her name supposedly was Lydia. Love Ohrid. Love Macedonia love the balkans. Peace and love to all balkans (ONCE AND FOR ALL)

Amazing video as always. I always enjoy your travels. I guess I see you do things that remind me of the things I get a buzz out of when I travel places. I always notice how you love to sample a local beer when you visit places. I used to like that too as it sort of defines a country or a place as well as using the local currency. Just makes me a little sad that we can’t travel at the moment because of the greed of a few psychopaths. But I feel the truth is starting to emerge and we will soon be able to travel I hope. Hey Gabriel) I am writing to you directly for the first time, you probably will not believe me but I saw your first videos in 2014 or 2015 when I was looking for random videos to Koh Samui (I was there in dec. 2014) or a year later when I went to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. I am not sure about the year-may you remembet😄 I've been follow you sporadically since then but I've seen most of yours videos from Europe and South East Asia. I am Swedish with Montenegrin origins, so I am happy for some reason that you are still in the former YU-republics, I've never been to N. Macedonia, though, but the Ohrid lake was the most famous spot there during the YU-era. Don't forget to listen to the old folk song 'Makedonsko devojče', that is 'Macedonian girl', very famous in rhe former YU republics and Bulgaria. Keep on travelling man, continue with your videos😄 Do not forget Poland and Russia - The beauty of the city of the old Polish Kingdom - Krakow, and the Empirical grandeur of Sankt Petersburg - Europe 's cultural capital in the 19th Century.
