It was an INTERNATIONAL match. Scotland versus England.

An international rugby union match. Six nations to be precise. It’s an annual tournament between Wales, England, Ireland, Scotland, France and Italy. They play the anthems for each country before each match, and the crowds also sing (well the English drone two lines) various songs to support their teams.

Not too sure what this 'soccer' thing is. We tend to leave that to our American cousins, who confuse most sports we Brits invented (American football!! 🥱)
As a proud Englishman, who's father was from Scotland, a highlight of any Six Nations is when England play Scotland at Murrayfield and we get to hear Flower of Scotland sung with such passion. But then the same goes for the Welsh in Cardiff and the Irish at Croke Park - as everyone hates the English the world over, but then that's all part of the fun😀 as we are a mixed crazy up land.😂

2 best ways to describe UK imo...
1: It's complicated answers so many questions about UK and the people
2: We're like siblings. Always fighting and arguing BUT you mess with one of us, you've got all of us to deal with

As others have said, this is a Rugby Union match part of the six nations, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and Italy, they play the national anthem of whatever teams are playing in that particular match, the loudest tend to be the Celtic nations, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, as there's a great national identity, the others also, but the Celts are usually the most passionate.

I've been in Murrayfield Stadium and sung it at the top of my voice (several times), there is nothing better to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up; though it's only in Scotland were we do the second verse accapella.

Born and raised in Scotland. When it comes to our Footie and Rugby supporters, you're going to be hard pressed to find a nation with the same energy. Rugby we do really well on the international level. Football not so much... we're just happy to be there in the rare instance we qualify for World Cups 😂
And when it comes to our national anthem, it's going to be sung loud and proud when you have a crowd of us together but we're going to put a little extra passion into it when it's sang across from a crowd of English. There's some history there but we love them really...well most of them 🤗

Its RUGBY the Calcuta cup is the oldest sporting cup chalange in the world, always between England and Scotland as part of the 6 nations, that happens every year. Wales, Northan Ireland, France and Italy are the other countries wh take part.
Flower of Scotland is our non national, national anthem. Scotland has never had a national anthem due to 100's of years fighting with England. The song was written in the 70's. It is odd we do not have a anthem and yet our flag The Soltar is the oldest flag in the world.
Scotland has its own language "Galic" and Scotland used to be cald Alba, we are a extreamly proud and beautiful country. Scotland has a different leagle system to England, actually it is very unusual we have use the word PROVAL instead of guilty, we have NOT GUILTY and NOT PROVAN which means we are pritty sure you did it but we do not have enough evidance, but if you do something similer this case will be used agenst you.
We have different money it is pounds but no member of the royal family is on it. We have a different school system and exam system also UNIs are different. We also have our own birds like the Kaper Kalie which is the biggest type of Grouse, the male ones are black with a sort of blood sack abov ther eyes that is bright respd, they have a very odd call. We have amazing animals like the Pine Martin (very cutish). The scottish Wild Cat which is the smallest wild cat. In Shetland a island on the top right of a map has its own mouse thanks to Vikings. We have our own aquatic animal The Nessie and a crazy beast that lives in the mountins, the males can only run clock wise round a mountin and the femails only run counter clock wise, in fact they thav 2 shorter legs to help with this. They are delitious but have a very short hunnting season, they are called Haggis.
I could go on about animals like Kelpies. This is touching tge surface of how different Scotland is to England, i have not gone into Bag Pipes and Kilts.
Sorry i just started rambaling but i love my country.. my fathers Clan and therefore mine is the 3rd most massicard clan and my mothers is the most massicard clan. Scotland gas a saying " the Scottish land is made of blood and guts so it is built on blood and guts"
I love my country it is utterly beautiful, oh i did not mention the Northan Lights also that our land has The Right to Roam and Bothys. The Right to Roam means you can walk / hike on private land (not someones garden) but farm or estate land as long as you respect it. Bothys are extreamly basic (no elictricity and running water from a extreamly close stream, they are often stone cottages and remote they will have a fire to cook on. A charity or the land owner will look after them.

There is a great vlog of 3 cycalists who have just stayed the night in a bothy owned by King Charle and they are filming there ride at Balmoral, the kings Scottish estate where the bothy is. So the 3 cycalist bump into a loan man walking a track road. The stop and have a great chat with this LOAN man.☆☆☆YES,☆☆☆ IT IS KING CHARLES *** he has security but they are very far (maybe 2 miles) behind him. Its a wonderful relaxed chat.

The anthem talks about the invasion and occupation of Scotland by King Edward I of England. A brutal military occupation involving slavery, mass killings (wiping out entire towns of civilians), robberies, imprisonment of priests and burning of monasteries, looting of churches. The people rose up through first guerrilla warfare led by the younger son of a nobleman (William Wallace) along with Andrew de Moray, then full army led by Robert the Bruce to defend Scotland’s laws and customs and retain the country’s independence, they said they didn’t fight for honour or glory but just to be left in peace. The anthem says those days (war and invasion) are past now and should remain in the past, but we should today retain the spirit shown (standing up, against the odds, against a larger invader), ie be the nation of people showing courage and strength.
