I think it's more to do with Liverpool being a successful football club and dominating English football during the 70s and 80s which lead to the massive fanbase it has because of that success. Like if Liverpool won nothing they would not get crowds like that no matter the tragedy or whatever it was.
Football clubs around the world tend not to play national anthems that’s very much an American thing. This is their club song, their club anthem. National anthems are reserved for when the country/nation is playing. Most Europeans cringe when the star spangled banner is played before sporting events
Most normal countries only play their national anthems at international games to honour their national teams! Americans play their national anthem at every single game because they never play international games and have to be reminded what country they are in!

I think it's more to do with Liverpool being a successful football club and dominating English football during the 70s and 80s which lead to the massive fanbase it has because of that success. Like if Liverpool won nothing they would not get crowds like that no matter the tragedy or whatever it was.
@@barrymacdonald3439 The would and did in Liverpool. Try and find clips of the all standing Kop in B&W from the 60's.
Football clubs around the world tend not to play national anthems that’s very much an American thing. This is their club song, their club anthem. National anthems are reserved for when the country/nation is playing. Most Europeans cringe when the star spangled banner is played before sporting events
Most people cringe at the Australian national anthem 😅😂😂
I don’t blame them. It’s out of control and I have never understood why every damn game has to start that way, and I never will.
I love American patriots. We need them in 🇬🇧
@@Parker_Douglas I can't stand them Janice haha they're clueless 🏴
Most normal countries only play their national anthems at international games to honour their national teams! Americans play their national anthem at every single game because they never play international games and have to be reminded what country they are in!
I never knew this. Its beautiful!! Teary. Wonderful. I bet Gerry and the Pacemakers never dreamed of this!! Thank you so much for the post xxx
The greatest football/club anthem in the world.
The Aussie mateship at it's best!
I’m Scottish so Flower of Scotland will always be my No.1 but my goodness this is an incredibly close No.2, I love seeing the passion of the Liverpool fans and knowing the history of this song makes it incredibly moving ❤
I'm with you there . I had it played at my husband's funeral as he sang it while I drones it , at every Scottland match.
P s " droned it " I also loved Liverpool as my dad was Liverpool Irish. Ah , the memories.
Scottish rugby crowd are 1000 xs better at singing Flower of Scotland than the football crowd who are murder they are never in unison. We need singing lessons from the Welsh lol
Melbourne is the home team but Liverpool are iconic and the tragedy of the day their stand collapsed in England and 97 of their fans died in the accident and its result scarred into every heart that day.
Aussies come together over sport a lot. This last year the Matildas have done us proud but many our teams have this support
I enjoy your interesting video-finds and particularly your commentary.
Your curiosity, your generosity, your openness to various new experiences is heartwarming.
And for you to share the immediacy of your reactions is brilliant.
A terrific rest away from the often bitter, extremely closed and fixed views.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wow, thank you!
“Land of my Fathers 2013 “
Check that out for anthem sung like no other
Will do for sure.
At my dad's funeral, that was his exit song... he supported Liverpool for over 60 years... I am now 71 and I would like that for my exit song too... Both my mum and dad sang that with such gusto, it always brought me to tears and still does... I may not live in Liverpool, but I am a Liverpudlian through and through... my heart and soul is still there... 🇬🇧💓 💓💓💓💓🇬🇧
My 90 year old dad's funeral song too. We live in Oz now, but LFC is in our blood
Thanks for posting im Australia 🇦🇺 and didn't see this.
it's not stand behind your country BUT stand behind your local area and the ones who gets it...
I walked down the aisle to this, great song 😊gives me goose bumps everytime
The Bob paisley banner was a touch of class
Big yourselves up ❤
This oval, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, (MCG) holds over 100,000 supporters, and when the Australian Grand Final (Aussie Rules Football - not rugby) is being played the stadium is filled to capacity.
This is not the national anthem but it should be. The Liverpool anthem is so much better. It always makes me cry
No it shouldn't. It's absolutely linked to one team and the supporters. It belongs there.
That brought me to tears. Very moving.
It was a hym that was adopted by the Liverpool fans back in the 1960's when it was covered by a Liverpool band called "Gerry and the Pacemakers". They even appeared on the Ed Sullivan show with the Liverpool manager and players sat with the audience watching them perform.
Fabulous respect God bless the 97😢
I was from the Walton area and was sadly around the corner from Everton. On a good day we could hear the anthem from a mile away. Lovely.
I found this video in my feed and I got chills. Im 60 but came down to Merseyside when I was 15 and this ANTHEM, is pure loyalty in musical form. Beautiful. Thanks for the reaction. Ps check out Liverpools capt, Stevey Gerrards free kicks
. Its a friggin cannon of a shot....
I was fortunate enough ti be there that night. Other worldly atmosphere and I still get goosebumps
Americans should try international sport, it’s great!
Why bother when you can win your domestic rounders competition & be declared "world champions"..?
@@davewalkden7248basketball and hand egg too!
Liverpool has got one of the most passionate fanbases not just in soccer but in sport period. Side note, the manager of Melbourne Victory in the vid is now the current manager of Tottenham Hotspur (no relation to San Antonio) who are top of the Premier League whilst Liverpool are 4th. Also for you should check out a RUclipsr by the name of Expressions Oozing who is pretty much the most entertaining football RUclipsr currently and is a Spurs fan too.
Ange ain't top now. Jurgen is😊😊
and welcome to Melbourne !
sport is what we do here 😊😂
Tingles up the spine. Proud to be a Melbournian.
So much emotion is woven within this song its become way more than just another football song this makes me cy my eyes out but in a gd way
I attended a concert -- many, many years ago -- with 90,000 other people. The are no words describe that sensation. The stadium was in Buffalo, New York.
This vid brings it back though/
Never underestimate British football fans. They are nuts.
Australian fans mate.
You’ll realise Liverpool was the “away” team?
The hillsborough disaster 1989 is what brought them all together 😢
Football's been around far, far longer than NFL. NFL is regarded as entertainment rather than a sport❤
@@Kernewik101 who mentioned the NFL?
Why do people always get mawkish about Hillsborough? YNWA has been sung at Anfield since 1963.
I was watching this from home bawling my eyes out. My son was there, he is a mad liverpool supporter and what you may not know if memory serves me correctly those 95,000 tickets sold out in under 10 mins. As soon as the song finished i rang my son and said "well i am officially crying" and he replied so am i and everyone around me is. Australians love sport and even if its not something they follow they will still watch as they appreciate all types, especially elite sportspersons. Have a look at the australian womens soccer teams record attendanes all through the world cup!!!
mate it probably goes over your head how powerful this is in 2006 when they where 3-0 down against a loaded Milan side the fans sang that at half time the rest is history, they drew 3-3 and won the European Cup on penalties, what a great night to be a football fan
I was in the crowd that night singing with my son and the rest of the crowd. It was a very memorable event and one my son will never forget! YNWA. as the teams were coming out the fans were chanting Liverpool, LIV-ER-Pool. The big song before the start is the Liverpool anthem "You'll never walk alone" adopted the musical Carousel by Rogers and Hammerstein - a bit of American culture.
Two managers who have managed the greatest club in the world, Glasgow Celtic!
ROFL
All you need to know is “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as a Liverpool fan. Through triumph and tragedy we will never walking alone… ❤ You ask, How do you get all these people at a game “typical American” it’s sung at every game… all over the world for this great club.
Up load the kop singing Y.N.W.A at Anfield home of Liverpool f.c every time I stand on the kop for every home game it still makes the hears on the back of your neck stand up
Still gives me chills when I hear this.
You may be interested to know, this song is actually American. It was from the Hollywood musical Carousel. Before a group from Liverpool covered it.
I'm a Manchester United fan and a lot of our songs are also American. Glory glory man united... Is The battle of the republic (an American civil war song), she wore a yellow ribbon...
A big English football tune. Sang by everybody is a beach boys song - sloop John B.
Man city too. Blue moon.
It was written by Rogers and Hammerstein for the film Carousel. So you can say it’s American
Makes me cry every time I see and hear that
You’ll Never Walk Alone was written by Rogers and Hammerstein for a musical named Carousel in 1945 and released about one month before WWII ended. Liverpool FC adopted it as their Team song in 1963.
It’s times like this I’m never more proud to be Scouse. It’s not just an FC team … it’s a culture, a support structure amongst a community and it’s how as a city we embrace visitors here in our city too. We never forget the 97 ❤️
LIVERPOOL MY TEAM ✊🏽 Liverpool till I die YWNWA .. LIVERPOOL FC THE BEST FOOTIE TEAM IN THE WORLD BAR NONE ❤
If you found this magical try Liverpool Istanbul 2005 final or footage of any Liverpool trophy parade 100,000 fans lining the streets of Liverpool city singing I've been a few and it lives with you
Our version? It’s the only version.. ya muppet!😂.. I’m a scouser n a red one too! This is boss! N never gets old to watch when it pops up on ‘ere.. it’s the Liverpool anthem 😂
What is amazing is that was essentially an away game for Liverpool!
You can’t get more “away” than a trip from England to Australia.
WE AT BRADFORD CITY SING THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE 56 WHO DIED IN THE FIRE AT VALLEY PARADE. I ALWAYS GET THE CHILLS WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG. IT'S HARD TO STILL WATCH BRADFORD CITY ESPECIALLY WHEN I LOST BOTH FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN THE FIRE AND THE YOUNGEST WHO DIED WAS ONLY 8 YRS OLD
This is the club anthem. And what an anthem 👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Liverpool fans went on a 23hr flight for their team.....thats dedication
On the PA you hear Gerry Marsden and the Pacemakers who had a hit with the song in the 60s. They were a Liverpool band I think.
MUSIC can just as easy put 95.000 in one stadium ! Especially if it is several artist at same show.
I sent this to my Everton friend and he threw his phone in the toilet. Priceless. 😅😅 I'm a wolves fan but i do like Liverpool atmosphere.
In answer to your question, as they walk on to the pitch, the crowd are chanting "Li -ver-pool".
This is great, but at Anfield, home of LFC, it's something else.
Incidentally, the song remains famous now as the anthem of Liverpool FC but originally it is an American song. A show tune written for the 1945 musical Carousel by Rodgers and Hammerstein first played on Broadway.
We will not find the most popular song sung by a football club in the world other than the song ‘You'll Never Walk Alone' by Liverpool FC fans. In fact, during the end of the 2019 Champions League semi-final 2nd leg match between Liverpool and Barcelona at Anfield, Liverpool fans who watched the match live on big screens around the world together sang this song. It’s amazing!
All those with the scarves were Liverpool fans, and they sign that at every match. It looks like opposition might have joined in too ... very unusual, magnificent!! 😅
Postacoglu has been a Liverpool supporter all his life.
This song is for my angel in heaven a huge Liverpool fan he will never walk alone ❤
It is the 'international' anthem of Liverpool Football Club!!! (lol).
1:05 welcome to Melbourne - the home of truly MASSIVE sports crowds!
This song just brings me to tears. The history, passion, pain, and hope all rolled into one. The greatness of humanity showcased in a beautiful chorus. Stay blessed.
That was the biggest crowd Liverpool has ever played in front of their supporters.
Great song thank you.❤️
