However, I truly believe that if taking "childhood" and "originality" away... Halle's version brings more connection to the song and really make you believe she is really feeling what she is singing.

A lot of singers start to lose their voice when they get to Jodi’s age, but she’s still got it.
1:50 - 2:10. The way she elongates “THEEEEEESE waters” and “warm OOOOHHHNN the sand”. Exactly like she did in the movie. So perfect.

Jess Fae I think that also has to do with the fact that she was a Broadway performer before voicing Ariel. She said she had a problem giving the character emotion when voicing at first.

The last chorus where she sings "when's it my turn?" is well produced. Even though Imma straight 40 year old man and have little in common with Ariel, that chorus makes feel like there's something on the horizon beautiful enough to keep living for. 😮

There's a sweet story about Ilene Woods who voiced Cinderella, as when she went to the premiere with her family her daughter would point at Cinderella on the screen and say "That's my mummy!" and an older lady, not knowing who the little girl, was remarked to her friend, "Isn't that sweet, that little girl thinks Cinderella is her mother!" and she really was :)

The people saying the words to the song in the back made me smile so much. Saying “Feet” and “Street” ... what made me simile more is ... they were adults! They were probably young children when the movie came out and couldn’t help but finish the song with Jodi ... it made them feel like children again :)
I can't imagine how proud and grateful her children are whenever hearing this on the movie. She immortalized Ariel by this beautiful song :)

Whoa, she sounds beautiful, exactly like the movie! She really, really acts the song. I'm actually crying. I just commented on the Broadway version saying that I wasn't sure Jodi's version of the song would work well onstage... I was SO WRONG.
It's her song, she was the original voice and character of 16 year old Arial. 20 years later she sounds amazing like no difference.
Don't forget that Jodi is also a broadway actress.

my grandma (on my mom's mom) used to love it when my cousins and I would sing this song to her. We were so shy when we were young so it was like pulling teeth to get us to do it! Years later, she started getting pretty sick. She knew she didn't have long, so she made a trip out to see me and my family (we got as much family on my mom's side as possible to come out too. they live in B.C. and Manitoba. we live in Saskatchewan.) And we went out to our local bar, drank, and sang karaoke. We sang this song for her on the way home from the bar, lol. It was a happy, wonderful memory that I will always treasure and I have a feeling she did too. With that in mind, this song always made my eyes sting with a bit of happy tears, even though it's been a few years now since she passed. Love and miss you always, Grandma.

I grew up with an older sister; she was 6 years older than me. I was always watching Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast. This character changed my life for the better in that I loved her voice. I literally *CARED* for this character. Everytime I took a bath she was with me. Anytime i went to the pool she was with me swimming with Flounder. If she had red hair she would be the embodiment of my childhood. I love her smile, it looks just like Ariel's. What a jump to 21 years ago when I was 6. Thank you so much for uploading this. I'm eternally grateful.

Don't get me wrong. I love Halle's version so much. Jodi's version sounds so much like a Disney film, like its just meant to be a Disney song...while Halle's one sounds like something as a best cover or an end credit version of it. I love both versions. Halle's version made me cry while Jodi's made me have goosebumps.

Halle's version is something you'd hear in a concert. Grand and powerful. Jodi's is what you'd like in an animated film-you can clearly hear the innocent curiosity of ariel perfectly
Halle’s is over board, almost concert level. She sings well, but it’s not this soft/pining/innocent sound. Whoever said HB’s sounds like the end credit/new version was right! It didn’t work for a dark grotto
