Amazing video as usual. I was banging my head yesterday with oil change just because I missed a simple screw on my air box lol. I can’t imagine getting diff out. I’ve seen some videos that make it seem quite tricky to manipulate the front diff to drop down.
Michael, glad you enjoyed it! It happens to the best of us man. You finish the project with a bunch of "random" fasteners sometimes. The diff was tricky at first, it is kind of wedged in there. LOL
Glad to see you back at it Richard!! Always cool to see you work on the gallardo!! I've been looking at Porsche Panameras here recently and was wondering if you wanted to check out the ones I found to see what your thoughts were
Juan, happy to be back. Ive been floating around but taking things SLOW and enjoying the process of working on the car. Panameras are cool. Shoot over some links, id like to see them!
Bendumober, you are right on that one! I saw that tool and I was worried it wouldn't fit. I have another detent nut that I need to take off on the motor. This might work a lot better than a modified cold chizel/punch! Thanks for the tip, I will try it out.
Excellent channel- engaging, technical, and humbly presented. What Gallardo parts are presently discontinued? Also would love to see a series on the diagnostic equipment (Laura) OBD cable DIY for the modern age-you seem quite capable!
Thank you for your videos richard. Great to have as a new Gallardo owner. I was just doing winter maintenance/service and removing my front diff drain plug my threads came out with it, guessing previous owner over torques them. What size time sert did u use?
Stripped the oil plug on my block... You think I can time sert it in place, and find a way to grease catch the shavings and then just flush in place? I have a shop thats saying they can do that. But im terrified of chips/flakes getting missed and curculating in the oil system. Thoughts? 2004 6 speed. Really dont want to have to pull the whole block out to get it done.😅 Watched your whole video again. You had to have done the time sert without confirming you rinsed out all the particles. Any tips to best flush them out from the bottom plug on the oil pump/block for an 04?
Im sorry to hear that. Time Sert is the best and only way to do this right. You will need to remove the oil pump to get all the shavings out. Another alternative is a longer fastener where you can use the remaining threads you have left. Here is a video from my friend Richard (I know another Richard who works on Lambos... LOL) on how this is done. If you are risk adverse, this will be your best bet. ruclips.net/video/I_tzj_eazb4/видео.html
@TheBullRider oil pump on the pre LP can't come out unless the block gets yanked, right? I'm thinking I'll let a shop do the time sert. I really hope they get all the shavings out 😅
@@rohansidhu97 You can get the oil pump out but it is NOT easy. Here is a video I did on how to do that. ruclips.net/video/M3kdRzIpbbE/видео.html I strongly urge that you pull that pump out. The risk of not geting all those shavings out could be catastrophic.
@TheBullRider so, If I yank the pump out, how is that going to help get more shavings out? Flush from the port leading to the pump? I'll probably do that, and do a few oil changes within the first dozen miles or so, back to back to ensure it's cleaned out. Wish there was a pan I could take off 🫨
@@rohansidhu97 yeah all the shavings go into the oil pump that's extremely expensive. The drain Port is also after the filter so all that particulate goes straight into your bearings
your balls are bigger than the moon. great videos... i'm doing the oil seal on my gallardo next week so i've watched your other video about a million times
That is a viscous clutch, not a center differential. How can I say that? Because differential has 3 shafts, this has 2, it us a clutch. This is the same system used on the VW 4motion and some of the Audi Quattro (VW bases models).
lol when something fell from the bench..."wth was that!" My thoughts exactly! Richard, worse case scenario with the differential threads, u could make it a two wheel drive correct? Im all for keeping the awd, phenomenal video buddy, well done.
Ridethebull, lol glad you liked that part. Junk falls off that bench all the time lol. I can 100% do a RWD swap but I want to keep this car all original. The diff is a special lightweight version specifically made for the SL as I noted in the video. The Gallardo is perfectly "flawed" just the way it is, I am sure you agree!
Nice to see someone keeping the front diff Most people seem to just remove them.
Can’t wait to watch the next video
Simon, no way! The diff is staying with the car. Its serial number is only 272, very rare piece of kit! Glad you enjoyed this one
Great video Richard! This is a great reference video for the rest of us.
ftwgarage, thank you! Glad you liked this one and I hope it helps you out in the future.
Good to see another video my friend!!
Good luck with your everyday exotic!
Jz, thank you. Glad you enjoyed this one!
great work, im glad i stumbled upon this channel!
love the videos. I understand what its like to having to slow down on uploading videos... But dont ever quit doing it! very special channel here.
Super interesting, Rich, thanks for sharing! Your editing and presentation skills have come a long way from when you began your journey!
Thanks Tanel, glad you are enjoying the videos!
Nice job like always. Good to see you wrenching again!
Hopefully you've been putting some miles on the Super G.
Mario, haha yeah it is been a while. You should see what is coming up!

Welcome back Richard. We've missed you! How's the Stude?
alpintourer, thanks! The stude is great, you should see what I just picked up for my wife. You will really enjoy it, or not! Haha
Almost great to see your video Richard! Thanks 🙏🏻
Briankwan, you are so welcome! Hope it helps you in the future if you are ever doing diff work.
Glad to see you back!
Nacho, thank you! Happy to hear you enjoyed this one.
Another awesome video man good work. Very simplistic and actuate.
Are you planning on doing a engine removal tutorial and rebuilt at some point ?
muckman, I already did an engine removal/ install video. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/jy9EZ9BlYsM/видео.html

Hey bud! Thanks for another great video.

Glad to see you back in action again after months of MIA! 🤣
Toyota spec’d a tool through Schley Tools (P/N 65400) to push out the detent on axle nuts. I think it would fit into recess for this vehicle as well.

Wow, learned a bit! Way over my pay grade but interesting for sure !
What was the sensor that looked like it got damaged on the diff?
Is that brown seal a PTFE seal?
