NIce! Got me a California U-Bass (natural finish) a few months ago and I'm not looking back. It's a beautiful thing and I love it, love it, love it! Thanks Kala.

I've tried one of these before. The strings where just really floppy feeling and you couldn't slide on the strings well, so you couldn't do much with it. It also can't really slap so that's a deal breaker for me and a lot of people. Fun toy and great tool for people who travel and play upright, but if you play an electric bass, it's definitely not worth around $1000. It's a cool idea, but extremely underdeveloped. Give it at least 5 years before you buy one.

I believe that the sound of the U Bass is improved tremendously by using regular bass guitar strings. ..

+JOHN THE BAPTIST Won't this affect the stability of the neck in the long run due to the tension of strings made out of metal? And is it possible to achieve the necessary tension so the strings won't flap when being hit while they're still sounding low? I've only seen people slapping metal strings and not striking them. Would be good to know.

There isn't much decibel to this bass when it's un-amplified. It's not much of an acoustic instrument.

Not rubber. A polyurethane type of material.
