All he had to do was look at him genuinely and give a friendly face and reassuring nod. Then if they wanted to throw in the voice suspense, the guard could turn back around, come in and ask him a question, which he would need to stall 6 seconds to answer. That would definitely give an opening to test the improv chops. It takes more work to do it that way, but it is more believable.
I know that some people don't like the whole mask thing that this franchise uses, but I like it because it allows for actors to switch roles around and make the story more interesting. Phillip Seymour Hoffman gets a few minutes as the hero while also playing the main villain.
I remember hearing about his passing years ago i remember this movie and i think the hunger games? was his last few movies does anyone know how he passed away?
He was confused sure. But he convinced himself that he was imagining stuff. Think for a second, who would expect that someone is trying to be their boss. He looked exactly the same and sounded the same except that little electronic voice.
He's most chilled in the scene where Ethan as Owen Davian is looking down at Luther who has just come up from the manhole and for a fleeting second Luther wonders if its Ethan or Owen.
He started as a result of this film. Tom Cruise insisted on shooting him in the neck with a real opioid, which Phillip didn't know about. After this scene, he was desperate for more. :(
@Mind Absorber yeah i think his performance in before the devil knows your dead hit close to home as well if you've seen it then you know what im talking about
The Director's Cut Original Scene. BODYGUARD: 'Is everything alright?' LUTHER: 'Everything is NOT alright, Ethan. The Phillip Seymour Hoffman Audio File has been corrupted by the notorious "TalkAWalk" virus! Now everything you say will sound like the voice of Christopher Walken!' ETHAN: 'Oh.... myghad. Mistuh... won't you juss... gimme a minut.' BODYGUARD: 0_0
MI3 is one of my fav missions and was honestly the top of my list in the entire franchise until the 6th one came. I think the 6th just edged this one in terms of action and suspense.
The mark of a great villain is how much you grow to hate them throughout the film, which is all down to the actor who plays them. For example, Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil, Imelda Staunton as Umbridge or Josh Brolin as Thanos. PSH, though, takes the cake as Davian. I HATED him and that's all because of PSH. God, I miss him. Rest well, Sir. You will never be forgotten.
RIP Mr Hoffman. I hated you as a villain because you are such a convincing, gifted actor I have ever seen. Much Respect to you, Sir.
i loved him as dusty
@Harvey Lim - One the hell’s your problem
He kinda killed me
Over-affected, over-rated.
If he coughed like that today the guard would run for his dear life.
😂 dark comedy
Underrated
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right😁😁😁😁😁.corona
I love tom cruise he my favorite actor
1:56 I like that half a second of a sound that indicated the voice changer was turning on.
A little nod may have saved all that. lol
That's what I was thinking. Just nod.
All he had to do was look at him genuinely and give a friendly face and reassuring nod. I Agree... and just give him a little hand gesture
Ariel Jones a simple “yes” will not blow is cover
Or just a simple mm-hmm

People don't like it huh?
I highly doubt people disliked the mask thing at all lol.
What I loved the mask thing???
Uh, John….the tv series. The original television series upon which these movies are based used the mask gimmick in nearly every episode.
@@etam8099 Most people dont, its a really cheap way to make a never ending story especially when you want money out of it.
Guard: "Sir, is everything all right?"
Luther: "Everything is NOT all right!!" 🤣🤣🤣
One of my favorite one-liners. Unexpected and funny.
RIP Philip Seymour Coughman...
nah but seriously he was one of my favorite actors, really sad he's gone
No joke, I will miss him.
Coughman, lmao
Wait Philip Seymour Muffman died? Oh wow...

@@chrissy93x accidental drug overdose I think
Philip Seymour Hoffman as Ethan Hunt was one of my favourite things about this movie
I love that Tom Cruise loves to do all the stunts himself for real.
The makeup to look like Saymour Hoffman looks amazing.
tom even gained a decent amount of weight to look exactly like hoffman , bravo cruise .
Makeup 🤔
PSH is probably one of the most vicious, cool villains of all time. Well-spoken, rich, and dangerous as hell. Well done.
MI3 is hella underrated. Way ahead of its time.
surely the guard noticed the electronic sound a split second before he spoke
lmfao it's a movie what do you expect? for the evil villains to notice the obvious? that's a stretch.
He was confused sure. But he convinced himself that he was imagining stuff. Think for a second, who would expect that someone is trying to be their boss. He looked exactly the same and sounded the same except that little electronic voice.
then why the guard say nothing XDD
yeah but couldnt have thought about him being someone else

Damn. Look at the size of the security guard.
Absolute unit.
He's Kurt Angle with Nathan Jones body.
That's why he become security guard
Same guy that was in the movie The Mechanic.

Seymour-hoffman playing cruise playing Seymour-Hoffman
Wish he had done the clearing throat sound from along came Polly. Always cracks me up.
The thumbnail looks like he is doing himself from behind. 🤣🤣😂😂😁
That guy is a hecka good actor, playing a bad guy and playing a good guy impersonating himself as bad guy
If only there was a universal sign that everything was okay... like a thumbs-up.
Aside from Sean harris, seymour hoffman is the best villain, Tom cruised ever worked with.
RIP legend.
RIP Phill Hoffman

Scary thing, with additive synthesis and AI the voice thing is entirely possible.
Phil was sooo chilling in this film .. truly scary !!!

Best Tom Cruise performance by far!!!

Yes way. He worked on getting the animatronic double of Hoffman to look and move exactly like him.

i miss Mr. Hoffman. just watch his acting. He is playing as Ethan in mask and himself, but in very convincing way.

the movie wouldn't been over if the guard had turned around haha

It's called Plot Armour :P

You gotta come back to this scene after seeing Dead Reckoning Part1!
The reality is that Seymour Hoffman did all this while acting all Tom Cruise's mannerisms.
ya he nailed the mannerisms here i almost believed it's tom cruise in a philip seymour hoffman suit
Weird, I don’t recall they need to do the voice correction for Dead reckoning

Thinking back about how the character acted later in the movie there's absolutely no way he would have read that card
i have a bad mind understanding the thumbnail
The bodyguard here (Jeff Chase)later appears in ‘The Mechanic’ as one of the hits of the protagonist..
He could have just gargled for 30 seconds and given the guard a thumbs up.
This is an excellent action movie
The bodyguard is as tall as the whole door…
Best Scene LoL
He could of just said yes even in his own voice, not like the guard would react to just one word.
r.i.p psh you will be missed
Lucky for them, Hunt happens to be the exact same height as Davian.
All this could've been avoided if when he asked "Are you alright?" You just nodded and went "Mhm!" while continuing to clean his shirt. Easy lol
Presence of Mind: Ethan Hunt should walk out of the washroom and roaming around the gallery to avoid his bodyguard to enter there.
That bodyguard is huge!
The most baffling dialogue in this movie was when tom said, " I will die if you don't kill me"
Sometimes ...a firm, "Wait outside" is necessary ...sensitive, or not 😊
I was trying to watch as many of his movies (rental videos) as possible.
Why the hell was the bodyguard suspicious there was nothing to be suspicious about.
