    Just love those Old School stories! Technics 1200 is amazing; I have (1) that is 20 years old and (1) that is approximately 28 years old. Man, they are built like a tank and still going today. Great video!

    I agree with what one of them said: "Using a laptop is putting something between you and the audience and that breaks this 'thing'". And I agree, since it's a similar story when using vinyls. They have this mechanical wonder about them that makes me keep my 20 year old record player and even older records and not throw them away. The feel of pulling back a physical representation of a song and releasing it on beat just gives me a thrill that no other computer or CDJ gives.

    There's something about vinyl that you just can't replace with cd's. Probably nostalgia talking but you can't beat mixing vinyl or for that matter watching a dj mixing with vinyl. It's just so much more visual and imo fun to watch. Although I do own cdj's aswell (not Pioneer though) I find the whole process of buying and listening to downloads boring where if I'm in a record shop somewhere or a market, charity shop or carbootsale there's nothing more enjoyable than flicking through crates of records. Guess I'm just of that generation :-)

      ...and hopefully soon the rest of the world will follow suit! The SC5000 is a phenomenal player, it is better than the NXS2 in literally every way, for almost half the price. I really hope they take over as industry standard soon, Pioneer are holding the industry back.

    • @muratti72muc
      @muratti72muc 5 лет назад +7

      @@Travis-guy-247 not really... 99% of all clubs have CDJs and this will not chance so fast. Maybe is better for you but not for club owners and DJs. They need no 10 more new "nice" technical gimmicks that 99% of the DJs not use. It's also not important if the fader light is green, red or blue and if they have 10 or 12 LEDs.
      Most important is a good solide long quality, clear sound, easy to fix and use and most important that every DJ can work with it. Price is not so important 1450$ Denon to 2100$ Pioneer.
      Try to rent a Denon player, you will find no rental company with Denon gear. They have all just Pioneer because nobody want Denon players.
      Laidback Luke and other "Denon DJs" makes just advertising for big money for Denon. Also when this DJs play there gigs they have a guy from Denon who brings all the Denon gear because you can't rent it.
      Don't think that Denon ever has a chance to break in to the Pioneer Land. ;-)

    • @CockatooDude
      @CockatooDude 4 года назад

      @Daniel Spaniel In engineering, the less unknowns one has the better the situation is. And there are still plenty of variables in digital audio regardless, the quality of the digital-to-analogue conversion, the components of the amplifier, the digital signal processing (if there is any), and the software used to play back the music all have many variables in them, each of which can be tuned to your liking. And if you want something more unpredictable, use a tube amplifier as part of the signal chain.

I was so fazinated I asked Josh how he did that and he explained to me for more than an hour after he has finished his set ...what an experience ..so I told the owner of the club that I will take them home 🙂 and after some time I was able to put on a loop perfectly.,,,still in 2001 I switched to Traktor scratch...to me still the ultimate system ..the best out of a record player combined with modern technology ...and record box simply f....d up on me too often

    couldn't help but laugh at the comment by oakenfold about why he doesn't use a laptop. something about not looking like a dj. sadly, this is the attitude of a lot of dj's both famous and unknown. everybody is worried about flossing for their friends and dj peers. the technics 1200 became the industry standard not because it made you look more like a dj, it became so because it had the features you needed to play a proper set. quartz lock, direct drive, pitch control, strobe and so on. nowadays it doesn't matter. whatever type of gear you choose will give you the capability to perform a good set. however there are still those that totally reject one platform over another for the simple, flawed reason on dj vanity. so, with the digital revolution and all the improvements in the dj realm, it's fair to ask, how far have we really come? not too far, if you ask me.

    • @Chadlloydchad
      @Chadlloydchad 9 лет назад +8

      langlang420 He says "you put something between you and the crowd, you lose something special". He never says anything about not looking like a dj. And I agree, if you're spending your time looking at waveforms and cue points you have not listened too the music you are playing enough. Nothing wrong with technology, but if it is a crutch, well that's what it is. Checked your channel out, you got some good playlists.

      There's no reason to look at a computer screen when DJing any more than you would when you're looking through records or CDs. Oakenfold can surely use a computer, just put it off to the side where he'd normally have a crate of records or a box of CDs. Pick the song, cue it up, then do your thing with the crowd while mixing songs. Pretty simple concept.

    I say pioneer should released a DDJ SR 2
    Like maybe similar layout... but with retractable buttons like the SX, and light up jogs with cue countdown like the Sx 2...
    Maybe even different colors when you switch decks. like 1 & 3 and 2 & 4. So you don't forget which deck you are on, and confuse yourself

    Not so much history as a promo video for Pioneer hardware but ok. Can you add midi sync for synthesizers to the CDJ and DDJ hardware so we can stop using Serato please?

    if the CDJ100s could read USB they would still be the greatest CDJ of all time and its sad pioneer doesn't offer something like that.
    those huge things they have now with a millions of functions are overkill for most applications.

    Pioneer DJ was late to the show on mp3s and motorized platters on a controller. So, no did not lead every step of the way. Truth be told it was Numark and Denon while Pioneer played it safe.
