Whitby is a traditional town, serving traditional food, why on earth would someone put a Wendy's in Whitby! As far as paying a surcharge, that's me out! Another Great video Simon keep them going 👍
What sort of a wally goes to a Wendy's in Whitby when there's so much good real food to be had cheap? They've made a right ugly job of the place as well, hope it goes, it's a blot on the town. Waste of a great building.
The sooner Wendys is closed the better, it should never have been allowed to open in that beautiful building in the first place. Blame Whitby council......
I was in the town at Saturday lunchtime and I reckon a few day visitor coach parties were walking around but weekdays are dead at this time of year. In any case, why does Whitby need a Wendy's just three or four hundred yards from Wetherspoons? Poor market research there, people.
Wrap up warm Simon. Business is going to get tougher as everyone is cash-strapped and the weather is totally unpredictable. There must be so many other issues like supply chains, availability of staff, Labour budget impact on future costs, high rates etc etc etc. At least the Gulls are enjoying themselves.
We are in our 60s.and had a four day break at whitby last week,...we have been coming for 35 years plus..and love it this time of year ,...BUT...just be warned things are starting to happen in whitby, and not for the better.!...we lodged in a b and b in john street...reviews yet to be sent,..so I won't mention the name...But unbeknown to us we had booked into this place that had a party house next door...with young kids partying to the we small hours...Of which the owner knew about and never told us..but took our money anyway...he was very rude to us,and told us to pack up and go..If we wasn't happy.not really a thing to say to paying guests..Thankfully we had just two nights of broken sleep, We did complain ,but to no avail...there was no recompence....and it goes without saying ,will not be returning....Just to say though that we feel that whitby is sliding downhill somewhat, Just be careful if you stop at whitby in a b and b....Do your research, we did...Although that is what I thought...😮
I don’t agree with service charges in any place ,if you don’t agree with what they want and ask them to remove it it make you appear tight,I like to tip in cash if and when I feel the need and at my choice of how much
Im wondering at the moment if there are a few businesses that might go under. A lot of people think Whitby is a license to print money, but like you say Simon, there's a lot of very good competiton around. I may be proven wrong but I look at Pescado lounge and wonder if it will make it past a couple of years. It's a huge building and must have a huge rent, and bills to light and heat it. Whitby is getting quieter through winter these days which I think is related to the economic downturn. People can't afford several visits a year like they did before this crazy inflation started. Papas fish and Chips were poor. Id rather eat the packaging. Wendys burgers are fine, but more expensive than McDonalds and I find the building uninviting and actually quite dirty. Im not sure if Im correct, but I think Papas own the shoe zone building and also the building to the other side that was Alexanders. Now that was a proper fish and chip shop, dating back to the 80's with returning custom, and run by a lovely genuine couple.
Hi Glenn. I agree that the current economy is causing issues for local businesses. I really hope that they find a way to survive and prosper. I guess it's good to see that new businesses like Osbournes have enough confidence in Whitby to open a new place.
I love that Whitby hasn't got all the fast food places, but I did think Wendy's would be great for the youngsters. So sad to hear people losing their jobs. Hope you and Mrs M have a lovely weekend 😊
What a shame . I am hoping to visit Whitby for my first steampunk visit . Whitby has become iconic for the Gothic and steampunk events . I am sure these events bring in lots of money for the local economy. Plus Whitby it would seem is famous for count Dracula and Bram Stoker.
Unfortunately I don’t think this project was ever going to workout in Whitby, if those of the Golden Arches have not tried it tells you something. Wendy’s is more for an out of town location such as a retail park and with a drive through. If it does close I hope the new owners respect such a beautiful building and keep the exterior maintained to a good standard. During all the previous work going on and with scaffolding up they couldn’t even clean the gutters or paint the top windows so it’s all probably a tax loss idea unfortunately.
I do not mind Wendy's when I'm in Leeds for example. But to be honest, I don't crave them when I'm in Whitby. It is a shame, but they have gone to the wrong town.
Watcher Simon, well as a Prophet of doom and gloom, you do it with a chuckle. Which is really the way to view the situation. It must be said opening up any hospitality based business is bloomin' risky. After the last budget, it's almost suicide 😢financially that is. My view as an old chef, would have been. Use the ground floor from the old chippy AND Shoezone. Just the ground level and rent out the upper floors for something else. But thanks for braving the bitter cold to keep us upto date on the burger scene. I'd like to find out more about Macy Browns. To have a total clear out of the staff 🙁☹️😮😳is something I've not seen a lot of in my catering life. Especially if you have good people working for you. Tally ho Simon 🐶🦊🐴Allan&Family
The monoflex job on ladbrokes/custom house is good 😉 Get rid of wendys....we need a Thomas the Baker or McDonalds. I worked in tourist trade 20 plus years and know what they want and this isnt it
Wendy's are the poor relative of McDonalds, who in my opinion are a poor choice for food anyway?your at the seaside eat fish and chips, bacon butties,a nice locally produced pie or pasty?
I haven’t watched your channel the past few months. Did they end up opening up that McDonald’s too? Trust me, you don’t want Whitby becoming more like the urban areas where those kinda places are usually found.
Unfortunately the breakfast food was not very good, maybe that is why they have stopped it. I also do not think it will last but you have been negative about them before they even opened. There are local people working there at risk of losing their jobs and I don't think it is right to go on and on about how you personally don't feel it is needed here. The town is drowning in fish and chip shops, something different is actually a refreshing change.
The entire uk set up for Wendy's seems to be out of kilter. My money is that the main licensee for the uk is in trouble and it is impacting on the entire rubbishy network. I have never seen a uk review of Wendy's on YT that has been positive. Your own review was fairly negative a few months ago.
How can they get planning permission for those awful stickers. This would not be allowed in York for sure. There is no appetite for one of those ropey stores in our city and Whitby also has taste
Sadly Business Insider states 50% of fish and chip establishments in the UK are due to close in 2025. You will see more fast food, American or otherwise, or run the risk of empty store fronts.
Whitby is a traditional town, serving traditional food, why on earth would someone put a Wendy's in Whitby! As far as paying a surcharge, that's me out! Another Great video Simon keep them going 👍
We do expect service charge in London…..but Whitby no no no.
Us Americans are sorry for giving you Wendy's. 😟
Hahaha!

That building deserves something better.
I was in the town at Saturday lunchtime and I reckon a few day visitor coach parties were walking around but weekdays are dead at this time of year. In any case, why does Whitby need a Wendy's just three or four hundred yards from Wetherspoons? Poor market research there, people.
Service charges are not compulsory. Why pay for bad service
a service charge is NOT conpusory. If you don't get the service you do not have to pay it. It's your choice.
Yep, said it on day one. Wendys was a bad idea. Cant see it making it another 6 months
Why did the council give them permission to trade there, I said from the start it is not Whitby.
If Wendy’s shuts, Witherspoon’s 😉will take that building and open a second boozer!
It was great to meet you in whitby Simon, it made our day.

Very true....tough times ahead.

In Sheffield, Wendy's did the same with the old fish shop.
It's hard to beat trenchers for me, we always go there tried others but trenchers are our favourite, cheers
My daughter mentioned shoezone was supposed to become a downstairs bit for Wendys
Thanks for the heads up re Browns
I've been told it not true

Built and designed as a bank and should have stayed a bank Simon. Or even banking hub. Nice one Simon 👍
Thanks 👍

McDonalds did not take the prime location, they knew better
Whitby looks fabulous. A beautiful place. No wonder you have moved there permanently.
the Endeavour ships been bought too, apparently
Surprised a MaccieDees has never opened in Whitby.
Goodness me Simon. All these closures in prime locations. Whitby is turning into Batley!!
Second homes and the Airbnb scene has ruined the town.
me and husband went to Wendy's in London last Saturday
we got sausage bun and bacon bun it was rotten didn't taste of anything 🤮
Personally I love the individuality Whitby has to offer.
So many places to enjoy with personality and character with great staff 😊
Great video. I have watched a review of the place. Wasn't Great. Won't survive there. Love Whitby. Have a great weekend ❤
As with their sign above the door... "The writings on the wall." For Wendy's, I think..😂😂 another great one Si... 👍🏴
Cheers.
That looks very out of place. No the wonder it's empty 😬
At last a sensible comment
I love that Whitby hasn't got all the fast food places, but I did think Wendy's would be great for the youngsters. So sad to hear people losing their jobs. Hope you and Mrs M have a lovely weekend 😊
@Jimwhitby2000 I agree, but would still prefer it occupied unlike next door
That sounds like a nightmare!❤ I'd rather have fish and chips too. ❤
I share toir opinions too Simon I too when it opened thought it was a bad idea
If Shoezone didn’t make any money then there is no point staying.
Good Morning from India Guv’nor
Hi have you tried Clara's on the cliff tops???
Of course!
Rumours Wendy’s is opening in Papas in Bridlington
Sounds about right.
What a shame . I am hoping to visit Whitby for my first steampunk visit . Whitby has become iconic for the Gothic and steampunk events . I am sure these events bring in lots of money for the local economy. Plus Whitby it would seem is famous for count Dracula and Bram Stoker.
I feel sorry for any staff losing there jobs. Especially this time of year. Shame about Wendy's, never my thing I must admit.

It's not a good situation.
Hello bud how did the baby seagull get on , I must have missed the update 👍
All good....he got flying and off he went!
I do not mind Wendy's when I'm in Leeds for example. But to be honest, I don't crave them when I'm in Whitby. It is a shame, but they have gone to the wrong town.
Hahahahahaha 51 No Shit Sherlock 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They’ll turn Wendy’s into accommodation for boat people 😢

We went in October when staying over and it was terrible, used to love Wendy’s but this branch is not good.
Oh dear.....
The monoflex job on ladbrokes/custom house is good 😉
Get rid of wendys....we need a Thomas the Baker or McDonalds.
I worked in tourist trade 20 plus years and know what they want and this isnt it
You've had a hard paper round to look that old or should I say mature ha
Your not doing Wendy's any favours with your negative comments
It's a shithole and an eyesore. Nobody wanted it.
Wendy's are the poor relative of McDonalds, who in my opinion are a poor choice for food anyway?your at the seaside eat fish and chips, bacon butties,a nice locally produced pie or pasty?
51? age hasent benefitted you.
I know....
Simon ARE YOU 51 ? 🤔🤔 Sorry but I don't believe that. If you are YOU HAD A HARD PAPER ROUND 😂😂😊. You look about 74 years old my opinion
78
Reminds me of Ena Sharples the moaning old git😮
I haven’t watched your channel the past few months. Did they end up opening up that McDonald’s too? Trust me, you don’t want Whitby becoming more like the urban areas where those kinda places are usually found.
I think the Wendy's decor looks like a depressing school canteen. I went in to look out of curiosity. It totally lacks any charm.

They said that they stopped it as people were not going in. They said they could be open for 3 hours in the morning without one single Customer.
Simon did you serve in the RN? Just some of your lingo seems of that ilk.😉
Never

Inside design and stirs are not working who ever risks the horrid place good luck , hate the whole building, dont you ?
I love the building, but in my opinion it's not suited for a restaurant / takeaway.
Try burger king in Weymouth
51 ????
Things only look grim, if you are creating content for views
Just beautiful Whitby is at the 08:02 mark.. absolutely.beautiful.
I wish Wendy's all the best.
Where was your paper round Muttley your rough as a badgers 😂

How's the Chieftain doing ? Sailed to waters new ? Keep warm !
I believe the ship has reached the end of the line, preparing to sail under the rainbow bridge.
We Need McDonald's Simon 😂😂😂, best Regards to Mrs WhitbyMillers
