The NFL needs to put this man in the Hall of Fame for his efforts to overcome adversity that no other NFL player has ever faced. He had half his foot blown off and was shot multiple times. He returned to the NFL 3 years later after being cut multiple times from the Steelers in 1970 & 1971 & 1972.....to rejoin the team....win 4 Super Bowls, rush for over 1,000 yds in a single season in 1976 and throughout his career achieved over 5,000 yds from scrimmage. This man is an American Hero and his story is an inspiration to anyone! He is an American Idol! An American Hero & an NFL Superstar! This man deserves to be honored. Watching this was so emotional for me, I can't imaging how it impacted him to go back to where his life forever changed! God Bless Rocky Bleier!

Rocky, I was there that day, August 20, 1969. I am lump, the guy that humped the M60.. when you guys got cut off in the ambush, I laid down cover fire. I cannot tell if that is the actual site of the fire fight either. If it is, it had way more jungle back then. I was hit with shrapnel that day, you and I shared a dustoff bird to the 95th Evac in Da Nang.. last time I saw you was in the hospital, last thing you said to me was “ keep your head down” I returned to Charlie company and managed to stay alive . Rocky Bleier's story is in my opinion the greatest story in NFL history. Being drafted by the Steelers, then being drafted into the Army and sent to vietnam. Being wounded and told he'd never be able to run again let alone play football. Rehabing for 5 years, then making the Roster in 1974, and going on to be a part of that amazing Dynasty. There aren't a lot of SB winners who also have a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and I can only think of one who has 4 SB rings.

@dachicagoan I agree that substantially all US soldiers in the Vietnam war were either involuntarily drafted or were duped into fighting to “stop communism”, and that they did not go to Vietnam with the intention of killing peasants. But, it cannot be denied that 1 to 4 million Vietnamese were killed, and most of them were peasants (including women and children). Read “Kill Anything That Moves: The Real American War in Vietnam”, a book by Nick Turse. It discloses the evil perpetrated by US soldiers in Vietnam, at the behest of the generals and politicians who didn’t care that innocents were massacred.

"service to the country"? For participating in the killing of 1-4 million Vietnamese, mostly peasants, including children and women? Bleier's real service was to the profits of the military-industrial complex. I'm not saying that Bleier knew that going-in, but having witnessed the indiscriminate killing of peasants, he must have later known that the war was criminal and a genocide of Vietnamese was occurring, for which he's never said anything so far as I'm aware.

Steel city tough Bleier and mighty talented those Steelers were back then in the 1970s, but certainly so were the Dallas Cowboys who were capable of going toe-to-toe with Pittsburgh as evident with two great Super Bowls in '76 and '79.

Looking at this video and seeing Rocky like this, I can tell you from seeing my dad cry. He was probably more taken over by emotion than the climate. He served, was injured and returned home to have an illustrious career with the Pittsburgh Steelers while his some of his friends and comrades never returned. Sometimes you ask yourself, "Why Me?" "Why did I get to come home?" Questions that can never be answered. All we need to do is keep them in our prayers and never forget our troops. All of Them.

The first Electric Football game I owned was from Super Bowl XIII. A major reason I wanted the game was because it featured the Pittsburgh Steelers and my favorite player: Rocky Bleier. He played with such toughness, passion, dedication and determination. I see all of those attributes in Mr. Bleier in this documentary. Thank you for your service and God bless you, Rocky!

White , black or green idgaf don’t make this shit about race ... we lost a lot of good men and brothers in that war ... and a lot more came back home broken to no repair ... we should be cherishing these moments that these brave men went to battle for us and gave up everything and a lot of men paid the ultimate price ... that’s what being American is all about coming together in the toughest of moments.
