Kovačić is very underrated. No midfielder is at the level of Rodri. But Pep signed Kovačić because he’s excellent at retaining possession and rarely loses the ball. He isn’t just some side passing merchant, his dribbling has gone under the radar with him knowing exactly when to dribble, and is successful when he does so making some unforgettable runs. Don’t ignore his versatility either with him able to play anywhere in midfield (also different roles) and being relatively good at defending. He can surely run and isn’t injury prone. He has shown up in big games (and that doesn’t have to be goals) for Chelsea and City. and is easily a world class CM that can support City to another title with a team that outside of Rodri made the necessary improvements. He was also one of City’s best players in that Arsenal fixture. And against Chelsea he was in my opinion MOTM.
Blame the new Champions League and the Club World Cup, as well as the unnecessary tournaments like the Nations League and domestic cups. FIFA and UEFA only wanted a big money for such a lesser teams rather than giving some best footballer a highly tolerated schedules!!!
