You can wind it manually or automatically. Usually, we use the crown to manually wind the watch until it starts running. After that, you can just wear it, and it will automatically wind itself. This is a common method for all automatic/manual winding watches. The reason we first manually wind it is to provide enough torque for the watch to start and become functional.
